ANDREW CHARLTON EXAMINES THE BATTLE BETWEEN ENVIRONMENTALISTS AND ECONOMISTS
In the essay, Andrew Charlton looks at the battlebetween environmentalists and economists overwho exactly has the right view when it comes tomaking significant and positive change in thefields of economic growth and ecologicalsustainability. Charlton examines the rift thatexists between environmentalists, who often seeeconomists as those promoting market growthand greed, and economists, who often look atenvironmentalists as people who enjoy thelifestyle of economic prosperity, yet who onlytake the source of that growth for granted.
The battle between the two, says Andrew Charlton, has led to considerably deeppolitical division throughout Australia, not only throughout the Australian businesscommunity, but also between the left and right wings of the country’s Liberal Party.
