Early life

From about 10 years old he went to Sydney Grammar SchoolAfter completing school, the 16-year-old Paterson was articled to a Sydney firm of solicitors, Spain and Salway.In 1895, at the age of 31 and still in partnership with Street, Andrew Barton Paterson achieved two milestones in Australian writing

What contribution did Banjo Patterson make to Australia and the World?

Through poetry, Banjo Patterson gave an insight into the early life in Australia.

He was famous for helping to improve the Australian way of life and sharing with others how hard the Australians were working, their hardship.

Banjo Patterson shared his understandings of Australian life through his poetry and music.

Why did Banjo Paterson take this path in his life?

In 1886, Banjo began working for a publishing company where he was able to write articles about the Australian way of life. His work was published in a newspaper called, The Bulletin.

People enjoyed reading his articles and he then began publishing poetry and creating short stories through his music.

His music was like telling a story.

One of the most famous poems he wrote became one of Australia’s famous songs, Waltzing Matilda. Another is The Man From Snowy River which was the inspiration for a movie.

How did Banjo Paterson’s work make a difference in the world?

Banjo Paterson made a difference by sharing his knowledge of the Australian culture and the Australian way of life through his poetry, short stories and music.

He gave people a better understanding of what Australia looked like, its culture and traditions and about Australian people.
