Why? Why travel to Ancient Mali? It is a rich empire, which has gold and salt. The whether is always sunny and hot. Like to read or learn? There is the great University of Timbuktu that has many classes, and a HUGE library full of greek manuscripts. You can also ride a camel caravan to take a tour of the desert!

You should really go to Mali! Mali is an exiting place filled with riches, brilliant architecture, and knowledge. You will never guess what they trade there. They trade salt for gold! That means that you can buy gold there or barter with something you brought for gold!!!

Geography

Ever wanted to go to Africa? The Malian Empire is located in western Africa! Also the long Niger river flows through Empire.Did you know that the Malian Empire is very rich because there is the Sahara desert next to the Empire which contains a gold & salt mine? Are you a sundog? There are dessert-like conditions in some places and many beaches. You will LOVE Mali!

Food-Taste Kola Nuts!

One of the things to eat are kola nuts. Kola nuts are nuts that are caffeine- containing and are very filling (and very yummy!). They are bitter- sweet and you can taste kola nut teas and drinks!!! ( also raw.)

The Arts of the Malian Empire

Storytellers called Griots (Pronounced gr-ee-os) pass down oral history of the Empire.

Potters make pottery. While you visit you can buy some pottery that was handmade! You can also get your piece of pottery personalized.

Fun Facts

There were rich and powerful kings.

Located in between the Sahara dessert and the Atlantic Ocean.

“Sahara” means desert in arabic so if you say “The Sahara Dessert” you are saying “The dessert dessert.
