Ancient Egyptian Gods
The Ancient Egyptians didn’t just have one God.
They had lots of different Gods that they would
pray to at different times of their life.
There were over 2,000 names of gods in Ancient
Egypt. Many pictures of gods and goddesses
show them with animal heads. Animals were
chosen to represent the powers of the god.

Anubis
Anubis was the God of mummification.
He guided the dead to the next life.
Priests often wore Anubis masks
during mummification ceremonies.

Bastet was the Goddess of the protection of
joy, love and pregnant women. The sacred cat
is believed to be the incarnation of Bastet.
She was the protector of women and childbirth.

Ra
Ra was the God of the Sun. He was the most
important God. He was lord of all the Egyptian
gods. At the end of each day, people thought
Ra had died, leaving the moon to light the world.

Hathor
Hathor was the Goddess of love
and joy. She was also the Goddess
of music and dance.

Geb
Geb was the God of the Earth. Ancient
Egyptians believed that earthquakes
were caused by Geb’s laughter.

Horus
Horus was the God of the sky. The Ancient
Egyptians believed that the pharaoh was the
‘living Horus’.

Sekmet was the Goddess of war and battle.
