Our planet is indeed wanting for breath right now, our harmfulpollutions is indeed choking her slowly and continues to

stripped her with her ozone layer. I think it is about time to giveour timely response to this alarming state of the only planet welive in, by doing our own share of protecting her with doingsimple things that will surely stir big difference. For if not, wemight be harming ourselves in the years ahead as well, fornature has its own

It is our duty to

save earth

Here are some practical and small ways that could help ourplanet get a sigh of relief. Collective small efforts by thosewho are genuinely concerned with earth's welfare will

inevitably help her by great leap and bounds.

NEVER allow your children to free colorful balloons in theair. Teach your children not to release these balloons. Forballoons that escaped the grasps of your children that will

get into oceans and seas will be mistaken as yummy jellyfish by sea turtles. Sea turtles take a lot of years tomature and unfortunately some of them got killed byeating balloon or plastic bags. Sea turtles are part of the

delicate cycle and if their population is affected otherspecies of marine creatures are also under threat.

THE THREE R’S Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Make it ahabit to reduce the things we need or we consume.

Purchase only things that we only need and eat only whatou can.

Let us do our share not to be part of the problem or should Isay part of the garbage problem. Reuse all the things that canstill be repaired/fixed or those things that are still okay.

Recycle things to conserve our resources, collect oldnewspapers, books, magazines, used papers, bottles (plasticand glass), and any other things that you could sell in

junkyards. There is money in garbage and at the same time

we’re doing our part in recycling process.

Be kind to trees. As much as possible use forests productsand timber very well with optimum efficiency.

You may use the back of coupons, use pencils until it becomeas small as possible, and don’t play with matches. Try to beinvolved in tree planting in your local conservation program.Try consuming paper…..!!

4. Broken scientific apparatus like thermometer, barometers, manometers and other things that have mercury on it shouldbe disposed properly. Avoid throwing this in rivers for

mercury is toxic and poisonous and could lead to the loss ofpurity of H2O.

Saving an endangered animal

is great deed indeed. It’d helpin the conservation of theenvironment…and would

eventually save the earth..!!

The nature will always findways to fight back to protectherself from destructivehuman activities, let us notwait for that to come... And weshould come forward on ourown to set things back tonormal..

TYPES OF

POLLUTION

.

Page 8: Anchal Save Earth

The major types of pollution are as follows:

Air pollution: the release of chemicals andparticulates into the atmosphere. Commongaseous pollutants include carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and

nitrogen oxides produced by industry andmotor vehicles. Photochemical ozone and smogare created as nitrogen oxides andhydrocarbons react to sunlight. Particulate

matter, or fine dust is characterized by theirmicrometre size PM10 to PM2.5.

Light pollution: includes light trespass,over-illumination and astronomicalinterference.

Noise pollution: which encompasses

roadway noise, aircraft noise, industrial noiseas well as high-intensity sonar.

Soil contamination: It occurs whenchemicals are released intentionally, by spill orunderground leakage. Among the mostsignificant soil contaminants are hydrocarbons,

heavy metals, herbicides, pesticides andchlorinated hydrocarbons.

Radioactive contamination:resulting from 20th century activities in atomicphysics, such as nuclear power generation andnuclear weapons research, manufacture and

deployment. (See alpha emitters and actinidesin the environment.)

Thermal pollution:It is a temperaturechange in natural water bodies caused byhuman influence, such as use of water ascoolant in a power plant.

Page 13: Anchal Save Earth

Visual pollution:It can refer to thepresence of overhead power lines, motorwaybillboards, scarred landforms (as from stripmining), open storage of trash or municipal

solid waste.

Water pollution:It occurs by the dischargeof wastewater from commercial and industrialwaste (intentionally or through spills) into surfacewaters; discharges of untreated domestic sewage,

and chemical contaminants, such as chlorine, fromtreated sewage; release of waste and contaminantsinto surface runoff flowing to surface waters(including urban runoff and agricultural runoff,

which may contain chemical fertilizers andpesticides); waste disposal and leaching intogroundwater; eutrophication and littering.

 Pollutants:

A pollutant is a waste material that pollutes air, water or soil. Three factors

determine the severity of a pollutant: its chemical nature, the concentrationand the persistence.

Sources and causes

Air pollution produced by ships may alterclouds, affecting global temperatures.Air pollution comes from both natural and

man made sources. Though globally manmade pollutants from combustion, construction, mining, agriculture andwarfare are increasingly significant in the

air pollution equation.

Environment Pollution has been found to be

present widely in the environment. There are a number of effects ofthis:

Biomagnifications describessituations where toxins (such asheavy metals) may pass throughtropic levels, becomingexponentially more concentrated inthe process.

Carbon dioxide emissions causeocean acidification, the ongoingdecrease in the pH of the Earth's

oceans as CO2 becomes dissolved. The emission of greenhouse gasesleads to global warming which

affects ecosystems in many ways.

Invasive species can out competenative species and reducebiodiversity. Invasive plants can

contribute debris and bimolecular(allelopathy) that can alter soil andchemical compositions of an

environment, often reducing nativespecies competitiveness.

Nitrogen oxides are removed fromthe air by rain and fertilize landwhich can change the species

composition of ecosystems. Smog and haze can reduce the

amount of sunlight received by

plants to carry out

photosynthesisand leads to the

production of troposphere ozone whichdamages plants.

Soil can become infertile and unsuitable

for plants. This will affect otherorganisms in the food web.

Sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides

can cause acid rain which lowers the pHvalue of soil.
