PublicationsEJCAP (European Journal of Companion Animal Practice) WinterEdition 2014
The EJCAP published two papers in their winter 2014 edition, entitled Anaesthesia in Rabbits Part
I and Part II, by Drs Nico Schoemaker and Yvonne van Zeeland of Utrecht University, The
Netherlands. v-gel® is featured as a product with many advantages over the use of endotracheal
tubes for the administration of volatile anaesthetic gases. Part I covers pre-anaesthesia
considerations and commonly used analgesics and anaesthetics; Part II covers induction,
maintenance and the post anaesthetic period, which features a video of how to insert the v-gel®.

Comparison of the effects of various airway devices on hemodynamic response and WTc interval in
rabbits under general anaesthetic, Toman Huseyin et al., Jan 2015
This study investigates the effect of various airway devices on Rabbits using differing
cardiovascular parameters such as heart rate, mean arterial pressure (MAP), ECG traces and,
specifically, the QT interval on the ECG trace was measured. Results from this study showed that
the Rabbit v-gel® devices affected haemodynamic (cardio vascular) parameters less than both
endotracheal tubes and human supraglottic airway devices.

We are very pleased with the cat v-gels® in our Radiation TherapyDepartment. We no longer have tracheitis in those patients receivingtreatments on a daily basis. Our exotics department is using the rabbitvgels® and they too love them. It's so much better than intubating them.

To be honest I wasn’t sure how it was going go with the staff here at first, however the v-gels® in small animal surgery are being used every single day. It’s like It has always been done this way and ET tubes no longer exist forcats! It’s amazing, I converted from a IV anaesthetic onto inhalationanaesthetic on a draped patient in dorsal recumbency in under 5 minutes(inc circuit set up time!) yesterday for a simple procedure that turned into anightmare.
