Chaplains Chat...

We never really know what is going on in a person’s life do we? It is only when they have told us about recent events that we know what is going on, but even then, we may not know with what emotions they are dealing. Many times, we are busy thinking about our own prob-lems or frustrations and do not stop to think about what other people are going through in their lives. Our expectations are that people should stop and think about us. How many of us ever take the time to think about or care about the other person? In Luke 6:31 we find “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Keep this in mind as you see people around campus and around town in the next days, weeks, months and years. Remember too, this is not just a once a day thing to one individual. This is an everyday thing to all of those around you to your neighbors, fami-ly, friends and even MP staff, the people you meet in line at the various stores or at restau-rants to which you go every week and all the different sales people whom you encounter eve-ry day. How you would like to be treated is probably how other people would like to be treated. Blessings, Chaplain Bill Billett BCC

Top 10 Housekeeping Tips (part 2) Tips to make keeping your house clean, well maintained and still allow you time to enjoy these beautiful West Texas sunny days:

6. Deep clean at least twice a year. Set aside at least a full day or two each year to deep clean your home. Giving yourself a fresh housekeeping start can motivate you to maintain your living environment. 7. Make your home a shoe free zone. This may seem like a radical idea, but shoes track dirt and chemi-cals into your home. Making your home a shoe free zone can signifi-cantly reduce how much outside dirt is tracked in. 8. Create storage solutions that work. For some folks bins and bas-kets are perfect storage solutions. For others, closets and cabinets work best. Consider what you’re most like-ly to use and incorporate it. 9. Never go to bed or leave the home with dishes in the sink. Part of your daily routine is to make a com-mitment to clean your sink at the end of it. Clean sinks are major focal points and when they are clean the rest of the kitchen looks cleaner. 10. Make cleaning easy. When housekeeping seems like a difficult chore it is less likely to get done. Streamline your housekeeping by incorporating housekeeping tasks into your routine, by developing a cleaning schedule and by dealing with paper and products that come into your home or office as soon as possible.

If you have any questions or con-cerns please call

Housekeeping – 699-3433 Lupe, Sylvia, Delma

It is important, when putting TRASH out Monday thru Friday, to make sure every-thing is bagged and tied up. (This includes areas with common trash receptacles) This helps prevent odors from spreading & WIND from scattering the contents.

The North, West and South Gates are all card access only. IF the gate is already open, be-cause, one car has passed through, YOU must swipe your card to ensure the gate stays open long enough for YOU (second car) to pass through. The gates are on a timing system and can close on your car if the card is not swiped for each car passing through. Please inform your sitters / caregivers that they should not go through the gate if they do not have a key card.

Library and Media Center

Our Library Resource Center contin-ues to grow and improve with the help of our Library Volunteers. This group of residents oversee the daily, weekly, and monthly needs of the library. All shelved books are entered into our online cataloging website - LIBIB.com. We have books on CD for your enjoyment. If you are curious as to whether we have a certain book or author, search LIBIB. User name and password are listed on the bulletin board for your convenience. A “little library” is located in the Living Room – take a book,

share a book. The Library Resource Center provides 4 computers and a printer for resident use. Each Tuesday we have a resident volunteer who helps maintain and instruct residents on using the different computers. Wifi is available under “Library” and does not re-quire a password. There are lots of puzzles for residents to enjoy. Take one home OR completethe ones on the puzzle table.

CURRENTLY, WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING BOOK DONATIONS.

EMERGENCY

You cannot control when you may end up in the Hospital. BUT. . . being prepared is the one thing you can control.

•Make sure your ADVANCED DIRECTIVE is current at MMH. (If you haven't looked at your papers in 10 years, it is time to

re-evaluate what the papers direct. ) •Do you want CPR performed between your house and MMH?

( Discuss with your family & doctor - Out of Hospital DNR forms available in IL office) •Is your RED folder updated?

(YOU must update information for it to benefit in Emergencies) •Is your pendant around your neck?

(You cannot plan placement well enough to beat the importance of wearing this ALERT)

Questions? Sherice Barndt, 699-3469 or email: [email protected]

Independent Living event sign-up sheets on clipboards…

The sign-up sheets for activities can be found on the two long wooden tables located in the Atrium.

The clipboards are updated before the month-ly Residents Meeting. Residents attend the Residents Meeting then sign up for next month’s events.

If a ticket is required for an event, you must indicate if you have your own or NEED one for the event. Stop by and NICOLE will assist you with on-line ticket purchases.
