A Publication of the Cursillo Movement of the Albany Diocese VOLUME 2017, ISSUE 3 July 2017 Spotlight on the Post Cursillo Chair DeColores my friends! You may or may not be aware that my term as Post Cursillo Chair ends on December 31 st . Where did the time go? It’s been wonderful for me to get to know you better over the last couple of years. Your spirit of love and service to help at every fourth day event truly amazes me and I’ll forever be grateful for your kind- ness, contributions and efforts to implement these events for the community. I can’t tell you the number of times I heard, “what can I do to help?” Ever wonder what the position of Post Cursillo Chair is about? The objective of the chair is to support one’s on- going conversion and transformation of his/her environ- ments through and for Christ, in persevering in their Fourth Day. Put more simply, the purpose is to provide opportunities to grow in friendship and love in Christ. The Office of the Post Cursillo Chair is a voting position on the Secretariat and responsible for guiding sponsors and candidates to continue living their 4th Day beyond the 3 Day Weekend. The Post Cursillo assists the Cursillo community by coordinating Group Reunions, Ultreyas, and other community events such as workshops, Lessons and Carols, etc. Working with the Pre Cursillo and 3 Day chairs, the Post Cursillo will encourage the growth and spiritual development of the movement through commit- tees established at the School of Leaders meetings. This is a call out to Cursillistas who might be interested in learning more about the position of Post Cursillo Chair. If you think God is calling you to serve the community in this way, please contact me with your interest. The com- munity is looking for someone who lives as a Cursillista, can coordinate the 4 th day events and works well with oth- ers in service of the community. Saint Paul writes that God loves a cheerful giver and that would be a desired trait for this role! I’ve been blessed beyond measure to be able to serve you in this way. Please remember that all of you are in my prayers daily. Also, my time is not up yet. So if there is anything I can do to help you live out your Fourth Day more fully, please do not hesitate to contact me. [email protected] or call 518-280-0338. With love and De Colores! Spotlight on the Post Cursillo Chair

DeColores my friends! You may or may not be aware that my term as Post Cursillo Chair ends on December 31st. Where did the time go? It’s been wonderful for me to get to know you better over the last couple of years. Your spirit of love and service to help at every fourth day event truly amazes me and I’ll forever be grateful for your kind-ness, contributions and efforts to implement these events for the community. DE COLORES

The Commissioning Celebration for Women's

Weekend #60 and Men's Weekend #54 was held

on June 10th at St. Pius X Church in Loudonville.

Deacon Warren Dorsch led our Communion Ser-

vice. Team members were warmly greeted by

Rika Murray and Mark Sabatini, Rectora and Rec-

tor for the upcoming weekends who commis-

sioned their teams after Mass.

We then gathered at the Crossing in Colonie for

the Annual Cursillo Picnic. Good weather, excel-

lent food, and warm friendship was enjoyed by

all.

Thank you to all who contributed to make

these two events such a success.

Nick Papa

Fifty Cursillistas met at Transfiguration Par-

ish in Speigeltown for an inspiring Cursillo

workshop on Saturday, April 29th.

Those who attended the workshop spent the

day enthusiastically discussing a variety of

C u r s i l l o

topics. For

P r e c u r -

sillo, we

discussed

r e a s o n s

why we

are reluc-

tant to be a sponsor and how we can get be-

yond those tendencies, prayer being a vital

step. Other topics were responsibilities for

sponsoring a friend and preparing him or her

for the Cursillo weekend. Session 2 of the

workshop focused on what happens during a

Cursillo weekend and the role of Table Lead-

ers. These leaders

promote an attitude

of community and

have a responsibility

for being available

and listening to those

attending so each per-

son gets the most out

of the weekend. The

afternoon workshop

sessions centered on

Postcursillo and the

opportunities to con-

tinue to grow in faith

and community. Eze-

kiel 37 was read, a

scripture where dry

bones came alive when God breathed onto

them. When we tend to get dry in our faith,

we learn that others can strengthen and en-

courage us, breathing life into dry bones

whether coming together after a weekend in

small groups, or in monthly Ultreyas as a larg-

er group. A short video of Pope Francis speak-

ing to a World Ultreya of Cursillistas was

shown. by Wendy Marino

Cursillo Workshop presenters (from

left to right) Harrilyn Beehner, Pat

Galarneau, Dona Fragnoli, Wendy

Marino, Mary Ellen Crucetti

Twenty five people gathered together for the

Cursillo Information night on May 17th at Our

Lady of the Assumption

Church in Latham. Out of the

25 attendees, there were 8

prospective candidates who

attended with their sponsors.

A short summary of the Cur-

sillo movement was present-

ed with a video from the Na-

tional website. Many of the

cursillistas who were there

witnessed their reasons for being in the Cursillo

movement. They spoke of community, faith and

the joy they

have experi-

enced.

This is the

second year

we have held

an infor-

mation night, and it was very beneficial for the

potential candidates who could feel the love and

friendship of the Cursillo community.

The S P O N S 0 R S Responsibilities

The following has been excerpted from the Sponsor’s Booklet put out by the National Cursillo Center.

“The purpose of sponsoring is to prepare a person or persons who can bring about a change in their environments. You should have a plan on how you are going to do this. Part of your plan would include identifying those indi-viduals with the talents to bring about change; to bring Jesus Christ into their environments.” “Sponsoring is not a haphazard circumstance. A sponsor should know the candidates very well...” “Your candidates will become the agents of change in their families, work situations, neigh-borhoods, social gatherings, etc. “ “Being a sponsor is committing one’s self to the selection and preparation of a person for the Cursillo, and ongoing assistance to that person in the Postcursillo.” As part of this, a sponsor should help the person they sponsor find a small group and bring them to Ultreya. This follow-up should be discussed with candidates before they make a weekend. Remember to Make a Friend, Be a Friend, Bring your Friend to Christ (or to a better rela-tionship with Christ). Always “remember to speak to God about the person before speaking to the person about God.” “It can be said that our Postcursillo will only be as good as our Precursillo. So candidate preparation is an absolute necessity!

What is P A L A N C A

With the men’s and women’s weekends rapid-ly approaching, it seems appropriate to remind

ourselves exactly what PALANCA is meant to

be. Following is a definition of PALANCA and a

PALANCA Letter.

A PALANCA Letter is one that is sent to the

candidates and team, informing them of the prayers and sacrifices that you are offering to God on their behalf. A letter may be sent ex-

plaining what type of PALANCA is being of-

fered, but the letter is NOT the PALANCA. The

actual PALANCA is the action - intercessory

prayer, sacrifice, or works of mercy, and it can

be done without writing a letter. What PALAN-

CA has been done should ALWAYS be included

in the PALANCA Letter.

Sooo, let’s get started on that PALANCA!!!!

IMPORTANT!!!

Please note that the

Cursillo day at Pyramid Life Center

originally scheduled for 9/9/17

has been cancelled

due to scheduling conflicts!
