AN INTROSPECTION INTO THE QUALITY REQUIREMENTS, TEST
METHODS AND SAMPLING OF PLASTIC JERRY CANS
STANDARD FOR PLASTIC JERRYCANS NIS 494:2004
Definition and Brief history A portable container of a capacity
between 4 and 50 liters (inclusive) ideal for the transport and storage of low to medium-viscosity liquids.
First designed in the 1930’s for military use to hold 20 liters of fuel in Germany but was made with steel.
INTRODUCTION
Introduction Ctd.Transition from metal to plastic – resource
conservation, waste reduction and smartness
Packaging, storage, and transport of liquid industrial materials and products. E.g.: foods, chemicals, petroleum products and others
The rate of reuse, especially for domestic purposes, is even higher
USE OF JERRYCANS
To provide the initial users (first buyers) with an objective means of assessing the qualities of jerry cans and
to guide manufacturers in controlling the quality of their products.
THE NEED FOR STANDARD FOR PLASTIC JERRYCANS
Requirements and test methods for the properties of the materials
The performance characteristics of the product(s) such as: permeability impact strength and compatibility with intended contents
