A Message from Dr Irene Petrick

Strategic excellence means that a company can see over the horizon and that this vision can be articulated from the boardroom to the factory floor or service center. The sustainable company creates opportunities by linking or driving trends that are not evident to competitors, and it does this faster and more effectively than others. But companies are facing a turbulent environment for innovation and execution. This environment is characterised by changing global influences, intertwined company activities, and the emergence of the end user expecta-tions as a key to creating lasting customer value.

Understanding trends and then combining these forces into alternative scenarios to prompt planning and action is an essential skill for sustained competitive advantage. Roadmapping is an information organising framework that captures the changing environmental forces, promotes discussion of alternative future states, helps companies identify the Perfect Storm of events that create opportunity space, and then consider the implications for alternative paths forward.

The 2010 Introduction to Strategic Roadmapping events will introduce companies to the strategic value of roadmapping as a complimentary tool for strategic planning, portfolio management and Stage-Gate execution. During the half day workshop, participants will be introduced to the roadmapping framework and learn how to identify, track and influence the critical opportunity drivers to focus their efforts and resources.

I came to the seminar expecting to benchmark our process, but the content was superb and will greatly enhance my roadmapping exercises at my company.Scott HarnsBell Helicopter
