SOME: Will understand the differing factors involved in motivation Resources. Set of balls i.e. tennis ball or juggling ball sized. Enough hoops for 2 per group. In a class of 30 splitting into 6’s, 10 hoops will be needed. Activity (Time recommendations) Pupil Teacher Notes/Assessment Introduction (10min) Present the Power Point for around 10 minutes Pupils watch presentation. Pupils to answer questions related to presentation. Ask pupils questions to ensure they have understood the information. Main (40min) 10-15 Playing the “Human Knot” 5 - review of task 10-15 Competing in hoop based task. 5 – review task Pupils listen to rules given and engage in task. Review the task and discuss the aspects of motivation involved. Pupils listen to rules given and engage in hoop based challenge. Review task and discuss aspects of motivation involved. Follow the information given in the notes section of the PowerPoint to explain rules. Move tables to sides or use open space available. Plenary (10min) Announce the winning team. Discuss which type of motivation they prefer and why. Ask participants to explain where they could use some of the motivation sources in their own lives. Give participants the chance to evaluate the task as a whole, either as individuals or as a group. Level: Key Stage 3 Time Allocation: 50 minutes Space: A moderate/large sized classroom.
