We have two comments this month. Are you, the membership, getting tired of this column, has it run its course? Let me know if we need to cease and desist.

COMMENT: “What’s up Doc? That’s what I’d like to know. Re-cently, I was at the canteen to enjoy a few cold ones and the companion-ship of my fellow veterans. However, this was hard due to continued bitch-ing of several members of the Ladies Auxiliary. Doesn’t the canteen have a rule about discussing business at the bar? If not, I strongly urge that the Post adopts one. Thanks for let-ting me vent!”

RESPONSE: That’s what this column is for, to allow our membership to vent and be heard, as well as receiving some very good suggestions. There is no By-law, standing rule, nor house rule pertaining to your concern of dis-cussing business at the bar. All of our units are aware of the Post’s position on not discussing business at the bar. Our bartenders and canteen manger are instructed not to discuss business at the bar while on duty and to discour-age others from doing so (statement of work). The Sacs police their members pretty well and fine those who are guilty. The Ladies Auxiliary has been advised by department, at their SEC Meeting, not to discuss business at the bar. Let’s hope that this column will be taken to

heart by those that were involved and no further action will be necessary. If it’s inappropriate at the time for you to bring it to the ladies attention, second-ary to escalation, try letting the bar-tender defuse the discussion. I would imagine that we are all guilty to some degree of the same offense, but should take the hint. What better way to solve problems intelligently than to have a belly full of suds, lowered inhibitions and feeling like Einstein. Thanks for the comment.

COMMENT: “I came to Post 78 be-cause I heard so many good things about this Post! I was very disap-pointed that your bartender never came to our table. 10 people at the table and only 4 at the bar! When you get a table of 10 with only 4 at the bar your bartender should come to the table at least once! Our Post would have been to the table a lot because that’s what we do! Money for drinks! Very disappointed with the bartender! Amvets for Amvets!

RESPONSE: Alrighty then. I do ap-preciate your comment. I’m very sorry that your visit to our Post was less than optimal. I agree, that if the bar situation permitted, the bartender could have made a visit to your table. Generally, our bartenders are strapped with all the task we assign them during a shift. They usually don’t wait tables. Our routines are established to suit our membership, as are all Posts. We all have off days and things don’t go right. Maybe you will give us another try at another time.

That’s all folks! Catch ya next month (maybe).

NEW MEMBERSHIP YEAR - 1 SEP - 31 AUG

Annual members (expiration date 12/31/2013) will have a short year (8 months) to bring their accounts into the new member year cycle.. The annual dues will be reduced to $20.00 to account for the 8 month short year. The renewal notice for all annual members whose expira-tion date is 12/31/2013 will be sent in December. This short year will see the introduction of a plastic annual membership card. It will carry the 31 August 2014 expiration date.

New membersIn the past we gave the three months

prior to the start of the member year to new annual members. We will continue the three month rollover. Members who have joined in June, July and August 2013 will have the expiration date of 8/31/2014. Dues for all new members will remain at $30.00. All annuals joining after 1 Sep will also be in the new cycle ending on 8/31/2014. New members will still carry the post generated card until they get in the renewal cycle, we will then give them new plastic cards instead of the hard paper copy.

*Calendar Subject to change August was a very busy month. We have made consid-erable progress in improving our meeting room. We hope to com-plete the painting and floor strip-ping during early September. A big thank to all that volunteered their time. “Dollar Days” has been suc-cessful. It has been expanded to the 1st and 4th Friday of each month. Please come and save some money and participate in this unusual fund raiser. The profits from this project are used to fund our mandated projects. Thanks to all who have partici-pated. Renewals are just around the corner. We expect the renewal

cards in early September and Ms. Debbie Normal would love to have all as “Early Birds” ( be-fore November 1st). Guess who the first member was to renew her 2014 membership. We are in the planning stages for the October Senior Citizen’s Halloween party. If any AMVETS or Son’s would like to participate please let me know. There is al-ways room for a friendly face at this event. A big “Thank You” to all who have assisted the Auxiliary dur-ing the past.
