Key Figure Admits Involvement In Macho B Jaguar Capture

Arizona Game and Fish Department

PHOENIX, AZ – -(Ammoland.com)- Janay Brun, 39, of Sasabe, Ariz.,

executed a diversion agreement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office yesterday

(May 12) where she admitted to committing an Attempted Take of an

Endangered Species, which is a violation of the Endangered Species Act.

Brun admitted under oath before U.S. District Judge Cindy K. Jorgenson

to placing jaguar scat at a snare site in an attempt to capture the jaguar

known as Macho B.

Under the terms of the agreement, the criminal charges against Brun will

be dismissed and not be reinstated if she complies with the terms of the

diversion agreement; namely that she not be involved in any jaguar or

large cat study in the United States for 12 months and that she not

violate any federal, state, or local law.

On Feb. 4, 2009, at or near Ruby, Ariz., in the Atascosa Mountain region,

Brun and Emil McCain placed jaguar scat near snare sites in an attempt

to capture and trap the jaguar known as Macho B.

McCain had previously been a subcontractor for Game and Fish, but only

to capture mountain lions and bears, not jaguars. As the department

previously has stated, at the time of Macho B’s initial capture in February

2009, McCain was acting independently and was neither a subcontractor

nor a formal volunteer for the department.

McCain worked with Brun as part of the Borderlands Jaguar Detection

Project, whose main task was photographing and tracking jaguar activity

in Southern Arizona.

According to court documents:

Brun knew that there had been recent evidence of Macho B’s presence in

the area of the snares. The snares had been set for the purpose of

capturing and placing tracking collars on mountain lions and bears;

there was no authorization or permission to intentionally capture a

jaguar. The jaguar known as Macho B was caught at a snare site where

Brun placed scat on February 18, 2009.

McCain plead guilty in May 2010 to unlawfully taking a jaguar in

violation of the Endangered Species Act, and he received five years

probation with the condition that he not participate in any jaguar or

large cat study in the United States for that period, and a $1,000 fine.

Brun’s admission conclusively establishes her true involvement in this

matter and supports the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s long-

standing assertion that there was no authorization from the department

for the capture of Macho B.

Even though Game and Fish did not authorize the capture of Macho B, it

had a valid permit covering either the incidental or intentional take of a

jaguar for conservation purposes. The validity of the permit was affirmed

earlier this year by two federal judges.

“Following the extensive two-year federal investigation,

resulting in two separate court actions, it has been shown

that the Arizona Game and Fish Department did have a valid

permit covering incidental or intentional take of a jaguar, did

not authorize the initial capture of Macho B, and that no

department employees have been implicated in criminal

wrongdoing in the actions resulting in Macho B’s capture,”

said Larry Voyles, Game and Fish director. “Additionally,

inaccurate and misleading accusations of criminal

wrongdoing by the department, made in the media and by

other sources, are simply unfounded and irresponsible.”

One Game and Fish employee, Thornton W. Smith, was dismissed in

May 2010 as a result of admissions he made during the department’s

internal investigation: that he had lied to federal investigators. Those

admissions were related to actions Smith took several weeks after Macho

Voyles added that the department’s own internal investigation continues

to be open and ongoing.

Illegal Felon Recruiting Othersto Buy Firearms Charged with25 Gun CountsMAY 20, 2011 07:08P.M.

Illegal Felon Recruiting Others to Buy Firearms Charged with

25 Gun Counts

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives

PHOENIX --(Ammoland.com)- A federal grand jury on Wednesday

returned a 25–count Superseding Indictment against Jose

Sauceda–Cuevas, 31, of Sinaloa, Mexico, on a variety of gun trafficking

charges.

The indictment alleges two separate Conspiracies to Make a False

Statement in Connection with the Acquisition of Firearms, eight

substantive counts of False Statements, five counts of Aggravated

Identity Theft, five counts of Illegal Alien in Possession of a Firearm and

five counts Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

This prosecution is part of a joint investigation made public in February

between Homeland Security Investigations and the Bureau of Alcohol,

Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. There are four other indictments

related to this matter for a total of 17 defendants charged in five separate

cases involving over 300 weapons — mostly AK–47–type rifles and

automatic pistols — seized here, in Mexico and in Texas. The weapons

had been bought by “straw purchasers” from licensed gun stores in

Arizona.

“Warring Mexican drug cartels continue to arm themselves in

Arizona, and we believe this defendant was part and parcel to

that effort,” said U.S. Attorney Dennis K. Burke. “This

defendant orchestrated straw purchases of over 110 assault

rifles and pistols in a multi–state enterprise to provide

weapons for the drug war. I commend our partners at ATF

and HSI for their unwavering commitment to finding and

dismantling these trafficking organizations.”

“This indictment would not have been possible if not for the

collaborative efforts of our law enforcement partners,” said

ATF Special Agent in Charge, Thomas Brandon. “We must

remain steadfast in our pursuit of these criminal trafficking

organizations.”

Matt Allen, special agent in charge of ICE HSI in Arizona, added,

“Weapons procurement networks are highly reliant on straw purchasers

to be their pawns in buying weapons from licensed dealers, but HSI is

not content to go after just the low–level foot soldiers in these

organizations. As this investigation demonstrates, we are focused on

moving past the foot soldiers to target those responsible for playing

leadership roles in these criminal enterprises.”

The Superseding Indictment alleges that Sauceda–Cuevas gave his

19–year–old co–defendant Gerardo Chaidez–Ochoa money to purchase

nine rifles in November 2009, and that Chaidez–Ochoa obtained those

rifles by representing to the federal licensed gun dealer that he was the

actual buyer of the firearms. Sauceda–Cuevas also asked Salvador

Figueroa Resa to buy firearms, and that Resa recruited seven others to

buy 35 pistols and 71 rifles during a five–month period in 2010. Resa is

charged in a separate 12–count Second Superseding Indictment along

with five co–defendants whom he recruited to buy firearms.

Sauceda–Cuevas also purchased 12 firearms by using the identity of

Alejandro Macedo and failing to reveal that he is an illegal alien and a

twice–convicted felon.

A conviction for False Statement in Connection with the Acquisition of a

Firearm carries a maximum penalty of five years, a $250,000 fine or

both. A conviction for Making a Material False Statement in Connection

with the Acquisition of a Firearm, and Illegal Alien or Felon in

possession of a Firearm carries a maximum penalty of 10 years, a

$250,000 fine or both. A conviction for Aggravated Identity Theft carries

a mandatory penalty of two years which must be served consecutive to

any prison term imposed for the felony for which the identification was

used, a $250,000 fine or both. In determining an actual sentence, Judge

Neil V. Wake will consult the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, which provide

appropriate sentencing ranges. The judge, however, is not bound by

those guidelines in determining a sentence but must impose any

mandatory minimum sentence required by statute.

An indictment is simply the method by which a person is charged with

criminal activity and raises no inference of guilt. An individual is

presumed innocent until competent evidence is presented to a jury that

establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The investigation preceding the indictment was conducted by Homeland

Security Investigations and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms

and Explosives. The prosecution is being handled by Lisa Jennis Settel,

Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix.

Remembering John Leveron –JPFO Have Lost A ValuedFriendMAY 20, 2011 06:55P.M.

Remembering John Leveron – JPFO Have Lost A Valued

Friend

Jews For The Preservation Of Firearms Ownership

Washington, DC --(Ammoland.com)- John Leveron – Died May 11th

2011 at age 40.

His obituary can be found here. Look for the name to right of page and

then click on guest book to see some comments.

This JPFO life member and firearms enthusiast contacted me just under

a year ago, and offered to provide some assistance on various matters,

working almost entirely pro bono except for JPFO covering a few

intrinsic expenses which were incurred.

For the most part he gave freely of his time for no reward, other than

knowing he was helping the JPFO cause.

John was a very talented IT person, who knew more about the depths of

the internet than many could imagine. He often said to me “You do the

pages and styling, I’ll cover the behind-the-scenes stuff”, and believe me,

much as I understand quite a lot of the base level technology, he was

nothing less than a total wizard.

John Leveron

Many times we spend an inordinate amount of time chatting on the

phone – mostly about technical matters but also just general enjoyable

chat between friends with common interests.

His knowledge of the deep aspects of the internet was awesome and he

helped construct what we might call a “server grid” for JPFO – a means

of covering eventualities such that if one server went down we’d still be

covered by others. Also helping set up a method of providing people with

a means to use a torrent approach to obtaining large files of “No Guns for

Jews”, so as to be able to burn their own DVDs.

Some of what he did and talked about I did not fully grasp and so now I

feel a huge vacuum, which is in part and primarily the loss of a valued

friend, but also an invaluable source of major technical expertise.

Rest in peace John – you will surely be very much missed and fondly

remembered. Thank you.

Chris Bodine, JPFO Webmaster.

Gun Talk Radio

MANDEVILLE, LA --(Ammoland.com)- It’s military trophies, deceit in

politics and more, this Sunday on Tom Gresham’s Gun Talk (R) Radio,

the nationally-syndicated radio talk show about guns and the shooting

sports.

U.S. Senator Jon Tester, D-Montana, introduced Senate Bill 798, the

Veterans’ Heritage Firearms Act of 2011, as a way for any American

veteran stationed outside the US who acquired a firearm in combat

between June 26, 1934 and October 31, 1968, to register the firearm so

the veteran or his family could legally own it.

“This is about respecting America’s war heroes, and making

sure they can pass on some of their heritage to their kids and

grandkids,” said Tester, Chairman of the Congressional

Sportsmen’s Caucus.

“These are the same brave men who left their homes and

crossed oceans to fight for the freedoms we enjoy today. If

this bill will make it a little bit easier for them to pass on that

history, then we should get it done.”

Also on Gun Talk this Sunday is author Guy Smith with his book

“Shooting the Bull”. In this latest offering from Smith, he examines why

some politicians operate by lying to the voting public, and the war the

Sportsmen and ConservationProtected As Missouri Bills DieMAY 20, 2011 02:49P.M.

Sportsmen and Conservation Protected As Missouri Bills Die

U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance

Columbus, OH --(Ammoland.com)- As Missouri’s legislative session

comes to an end, two bills that would have harmed sportsmen and the

state’s conservation efforts died.

House Bill 115, introduced by Rep. Rodney Schad (R- Versailles), and

Senate Bill 299, introduced by Sen. Brian Munzlinger (D-

Williamstown), would have held Missouri’s Department of Conservation

financially responsible for damages incurred by wild elk to a person or a

person’s property.

In reality, this would set a dangerous precedent holding sportsmen and

sportswomen liable to pick up the tab for damage caused by any wild

animal.

Further, the bills would allow landowners to kill an unlimited number of

elk by simply claiming damage to their property. Under the proposal,

landowners would not have been required to provide proof of the

damage or that elk were actually the cause of the purported damage.

Essentially, this would have stripped the Department’s authority to

manage wildlife despite already having an aggressive elk-conflict plan in

place.

“Sportsmen are already paying the freight when it comes to wildlife

conservation and funding for state wildlife agencies,” said Jeremy Rine,

U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance associate director of state services.

“Sportsmen can rest assured, for now, that the state’s wildlife

management decisions will continue to be made by wildlife

NICS Firearms Background Checks March 2011

NASGW

Washington, DC --(Ammoland.com)- Background checks for firearms

rose 11.5% in March according to data from the FBI’s National Instant

Criminal Background Check System (NICS).

This continues the strong upward 18.5% increase in February.

Background checks have been trending upward since June of last year.

In March 2011, 1,449,724 background checks were performed compared

to 1,300,100 in March 2010.

Year-to-date, through March 2011, background checks (4,246,573) are

ahead of the first three months of 2010 (3,662,540).

For 2010, total background checks numbered 14.4 million, up 2.7% from

14.0 million in 2009.

FBI background checks are required under federal law for all individuals

purchasing firearms from federally licensed retailers and are considered

a strong indicator of actual sales by industry experts.

Proposed Fur-Free City Prompts PETA Call for Protests

U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance

Columbus, OH --(Ammoland.com)- With the recent news that

California’s West Hollywood city council is ordering the city’s attorney to

draft an ordinance prohibiting the sale of fur products within the city,

PETA was quick to release news that it is encouraging its followers to

create more Fur-Free cities by organizing protests around the US.

The group encourages members to target outside of fur salons and other

businesses that sell furs.

Odd, but in the same news release seeking attention-of-the-outrageous

kind, the group lashes out about laying chickens in cages, declawing cats,

and calls for “banning the retail sale of dogs and cats in pet stores.”

The group goes on to uphold West Hollywood as a place that’s known for

California Gun Registry BillBack AgainMAY 20, 2011 01:36P.M.

California Gun Registry Bill Back Again

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting

different results.

U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance

Columbus, OH --(Ammoland.com)- Assembly Bill 809, introduced by

Assemblyman Mike Feuer (D- Los Angeles), would require the state to

keep registration information for all firearm transfers.

Currently, California law requires persons who purchase or transfer a

handgun to register the gun with the state. These gun owners are

required to provide personal information that includes: name, address,

place of birth, telephone number, and occupation. The law also requires

gun owners to provide a detailed description of the handgun and the

gun’s serial number.

Under AB 809, the handgun registration requirements would apply to all

firearms, including rifles and shotguns commonly used by sportsmen for

hunting and recreational shooting. It’s expected that a vote on AB 809

could come as soon May 27th during a hearing before the Assembly

Appropriations Committee.

“Not only is this bill unnecessary, it’s a clear violation of

individual privacy rights,” said Evan Heusinkveld, U.S.

Sportsmen’s Alliance director of state services. “California

firearms owners and sportsmen need to contact their state

assemblyman today in opposition to AB 809.”

Similar legislation was introduced last session. The bill passed out of the

Assembly before stalling in the Senate with the USSA, the California

Outdoor Heritage Alliance and many other local, state and national

groups opposing the effort.

“AB 809 will do little to assist law enforcement in their crime

fighting efforts,” stated Jason Rhine with the California

Outdoor Heritage Alliance. “This misguided measure will

likely result in more bureaucracy and additional fees for

sportsmen and women.”

Take Action! California sportsmen should call their assembly members

today and ask them to oppose Assembly Bill 809. Tell them there is no

justification for expanding the state’s registry to include all firearm

transfers by law abiding gun owners. To find your state assembly

member’s contact information, visit the USSA Legislative Action Center

at www.ussportsmen.org/LAC.

Wisconsin Carry

Wisconsin --(Ammoland.com)- Listen to the following clip that the

anti-gun group W.A.V.E. is using in their attack on your right to carry.

The video link above is Milwaukee “conservative” radio talk show hosts

Charlie Sykes and Jeff Wagner discussing the concealed carry legislation.

Milwaukee “conservative” radio talk show hosts Charlie Sykes and Jeff

Wagner think people who support Constitutional Carry are “The kook

fringe”

How nice of supposedly “conservative” radio show hosts to give the

anti’s talking points.

Charlie calls constitutional carry “complicated” (at the 45 second

mark)…

Complicated???? Really? The constitutional carry bill is 19 pages. It has

NO fiscal impact. The shall-issue permit bill is 60 pages and will cost

MILLIONS. Which is complicated???

LISTEN to Jeff Wagner at the 55 second mark stumble over admitting

that “registration” is a bad word, but “permitting” is better?

Contact Charlie Sykes and Jeff Wagner. POLITELY share with them a

little about yourself, an average law-abiding United Sates resident who

doesn’t want to have to pay a tax and register with the government to be

able to carry discreetly.

[email protected]

[email protected]

Email Tom Land, program director and let him know that you don’t

appreciate radio talk show hosts referring to law-abiding Wisconsinites

as “kook fringe”.

[email protected]

Email the advertising sales manager Tom Sheridan:

[email protected] and let him know that Wisconsin Carry and

the USCCA chose this past week to run our 2-week series of ads on WISN

radio instead of WTMJ in part because of comments like Charlie and

Jeff’s.

Since when did wanting smaller government and fewer taxes become

“Kook fringe?”

Since when did not wanting meaningless permits and registration (its a

felony for felons to carry and police, using their radio, can determine in

SECONDS during a stop if a person who is carry is legal to do so)

become “kook fringe”

Since when did embracing personal accountability VOLUNTARY

training and knowing that people either already have or will seek

training out of self-preservation (not shooting themselves handling their

gun AND staying out of jail because using your gun unlawfully will get

you a quick trip to jail) and government training mandates are not

effective, become kook fringe?

EVEN the NRA is pushing AGAINST training mandates. Are their

100,000+ members in Wisconsin the “kook fringe”?

In 2010 the Wisconsin GOP changed their party platform at the state

convention to support right to carry concealed WITHOUT a permit. Are

they all “kook fringe”

The massive Wisconsin Tea-Party coalition and all of its 100+

independent member groups support constitutional carry. Are they and

the 10′s of thousands of law-abiding everyday folks they consist of all

“kook fringe”?

It appears there is an out-of-touch “kook fringe” in this

story, but its the radio talk show hosts who sit on their perch

behind microphones, pretend to be conservatives and talk

down to the rest of us.

Why Round Gun Sites?MAY 20, 2011 01:01P.M.

Why Round Gun Sites?

by John M. Buol Jr.

Peep sights are an improvement, and a round aperture is most obvious

but is it always ideal?

Firearms User Network

Shavano Park TX --(Ammoland.com)- A peep sight offers a more

natural method of alignment compared to standard open sights.

Looking through an aperture your eye will tend to seek the greatest light

sources, which is the center of the hole.

Focusing on the front sight naturally achieves sight alignment. Plus, this

system requires the rear sight to be close to the aiming eye, maximizing

sight radius. Several military’s adopted this type of iron sight before The

War to End All Wars and nearly all the major powers switched them

prior to the next one.

Even with the optical sights becoming more prominent rear apertures

remain a standard aiming system for military rifles around the world.

This explains why rear peep sights are generally superior to

other types of irons, but where is it written that this rear

aperture has to be a circle?

Like most improvements, people begin to accept the new way as the

“only” way and further development ceases. Peep sights are an

improvement, and a round aperture is most obvious but is it always

ideal?

One hint that other aperture shapes may show their worth is various

experiments done by a few Service Rifle teams. High Power requires iron

sights and Service Rifles must utilize a sight similar externally to as-issue

gear, however, the internals can be improved.

Shooting Sight Rectangular Apertures have been tested by both the US

Navy and US Army Reserve. As the name suggests, the rear circular peep

is replaced by a rectangle. The word is still out if this is a true

improvement but initial tests have shown some promise.

Another similar development on the practical side is the DiamondHead

Sight. Marketed by ShieldShot, Ltd (www.diamondhead-usa.com) this

BUIS (Back Up Iron Sight) unit features a uniquely shaped diamond-

shaped aperture. The concept is to more easily align the front sight

perfectly in the center of the rear aperture quicker.

The edges of the aperture are enhanced with post extensions at the

corners. This provides additional reference points to aid in centering up

a focused front sight.

The unit is a rugged, compact flip-up iron sight that is click adjustable

for windage, mounts to any Picatinny (Weaver) rail and features two

apertures of different sizes. The sight gives the same height as a normal

AR-15 rear sight.

Conservation Partnership Built in Oakland County.

Commission Chairman Gerald A. Fisher

Ducks Unlimited

ANN ARBOR, Mich. --(Ammoland.com)- The Oakland County Parks

and Recreation Commission recently recognized Ducks Unlimited for its

commitment to protect natural resources in Oakland County.

The recognition took place during a commission meeting at Springfield

Oaks County Park in Davisburg.

The conservation success came through a partnership of individuals and

organizations

“It was really putting together pieces of a puzzle” said Jenifer

Christman, DU manager of conservation.

OCPR was interested in purchasing the Upper Bushman Lake parcel in

order to add to their existing Independence Oaks County Park. OCPR

had secured the majority of their funding from a Michigan Natural

Resources Trust Fund grant, but the funding was just shy of the amount

needed to close the deal.

“That’s where the Carls Foundation came in,” Christmas said.

DU secured a grant from the Carls Foundation that bridged the purchase

price of the Upper Bushman Lake parcel, and also covered the cost of the

connector parcel between Bushman and Independence Oaks County

Park.

It also gave the parks direct access to Sashabaw Road.

The groups ended up protecting more than 1,000 acres of contiguous

habitat in the headwaters of the Clinton River. The North Oakland

Headwaters Land Conservancy is a partner in this effort, and hopes to

protect additional lands in the area with conservation easements.

“This was a real friendship-builder.” Christman concluded.

“When so many entities come together with conservation as a

goal, it can only result in better habitat and improved

recreation for local citizens. Everyone wins.”

Washington, DC --(Ammoland.com)- On Thursday, the U.S. Senate

rejected President Obama’s pick for a seat on the 9th Circuit Court of

Appeals.

In a procedural motion that required 60 votes, Goodwin Liu’s

nomination was defeated in a near-party line vote of 52-43.

Liu was perhaps the most radical of Obama’s judicial nominees. The UC

Berkley law professor supported the notion that the language of the

Constitution is sufficiently ambiguous to bend with the times.

“It becomes pretty clear why ‘originalism’ and ‘strict

construction’ don’t make a lot of sense,” Liu said in an

interview promoting his book. “The Framers deliberately

chose… broad words so they would be adaptable to new

challenges over time.”

In Liu’s view, the right to keep and bear arms may have been necessary

in the 18th century, but no longer needed.

For these reasons, the Senate was flooded with emails from gun owners

insisting that Liu be voted down.

You can click here to see how your senator voted

While Liu’s defeat is a victory for Second Amendment supporters, it is

also indicative that Obama is pursuing a course to pull the federal

judiciary as far to the left as possible. GOA will continue to expose the

disdain with which Obama’s nominees hold the Second Amendment.

North Carolina House Tackles Massive Pro Gun Bill

Grass Roots North Carolina for Firearms Education

North Carolina --(Ammoland.com)- HB 650 On Wednesday, the NC

House Judiciary C Committee took on House Bill 650, “Amend Various

Gun Laws.”

Thanks to the efforts of Sponsors Mark Hilton (R-Catawba, GRNC ****),

Steven LaRoque (R-Greene, Lenoir, Wayne, ****), George Cleveland (R-

Onslow, ****) and Kelly Hastings (R- Cleveland, Gaston, ****), plus the

leadership of Rules Chairman Tim Moore (R- Cleveland, ****) and

Speaker Thom Tillis (R-Meckleburg, ****), the bill is likely to receive a

committee vote next Wednesday.

Gun rights supporters should immediately e-mail these courageous

legislators with thanks.

HB 650 is a huge and aggressive bill, meaning it will be difficult to pass.

But if passed, it will go far toward reversing the creeping encroachment

on gun owners’ rights perpetuated in previous sessions of the legislature,

including (but not limited to):

• Castle Doctrine (yet another vehicle for popular Castle Doctrine is

now moving);

• Reducing penalties for carrying firearms on “educational property,”

including a protection against accidentally becoming a criminal by

requiring that offenders “knowingly” brought the gun onto

educational property;

• Enabling concealed carry at events for which admission is charged;

• Reducing penalties for a host of minor (often inadvertent) gun

violations;

• Adding protections for gun owners whose guns are confiscated

pursuant to domestic protective orders;

• Improves concealed handgun reciprocity to straight recognition of

• Removes provisions for concealed handgun applicants under which

sheriffs are conducting intrusive investigations of medical history;

and

• Enabling employees to keep guns in locked vehicles at places of

As Chairman Moore brought up the bill, Rep. Hilton pointed out that it

simply attempted to mirror and conform with federal law. Opposition

was brought by the usual leftists, including Joe Hackney (D- Chatham,

Jonathan Jordan (R- Ashe, Watauga, ****) did an outstanding job of

defending it. Thanks also go to Chairman Moore for allowing GRNC

president Paul Valone to dispel numerous misconceptions regarding

state and federal gun laws.

Welcome to the Big Game Super Raffle, where your dreams can come

true.

A consortium of nonprofit conservation groups partner together to raffle

off one each of the 10 special big game tags (issued by the commission)

to raise funds for wildlife conservation projects that directly benefit those

species (and many others indirectly) in Arizona.

Winners will be able to hunt for 365 days almost anywhere in the state of

Arizona during a special 2011-12 hunting season.

To cover the administrative costs of the raffle there are two bonus items:

an incredible Swarovski optic package valued at $7000, ticket cost of

only $10; and, a guided trophy elk hunt in New Mexico valued at $6,500,

ticket cost of only $20.

For $150, you get one ticket for each of the 12 items up for raffle, that’s

only $12.50 a ticket.

Now that you’re excited, here is the icing on the cake. While there will

obviously be 12 very happy winners, the real winners are Arizona’s

wildlife and habitats. The money raised from the Super Raffle goes right

back on the ground to wildlife conservation in Arizona. So buy a ticket,

support wildlife and we all win.

Tickets can be purchased by mail or online. The deadline for mail orders

is July 15. Online orders are available until July 17. The public drawing

will be held July 21.

To learn how funds raised through the raffle are benefiting wildlife, visit

the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Habitat Partnership

Committee webpage at www.azgfd.gov/w_c/hpc.shtml.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department does not receive any of the

state’s general funds to operate. Wildlife conservation and management

of the state’s game animals, which also benefits many non-game species,

is made possible through a user-pay, user-benefit system. Funding from

the direct sale of hunting and fishing licenses, big game tags, and

matching funds from the Pittman-Robertson Act, a federal excise tax

that sportsmen pay on guns, ammunition and related equipment, remain

the backbone of wildlife conservation in North America.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department prohibits discrimination on the

basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, or disability in its programs

and activities. If anyone believes that they have been discriminated

against in any of the AGFD’s programs or activities, including

employment practices, they may file a complaint with the Deputy

Director, 5000 W. Carefree Highway, Phoenix, AZ 85086-5000, (602)
