Local Memory CareProgram Highlights

Every month the Spring LakeLibrary host an hour program for theresidents in the Spring Lake area toenjoy many types of sensoryentertainment. American House ofSpring Lake and The Little Red Househelp facilitate these programs. It isintended to get memory careresidents out into the community andenjoy a moment outside their usualenvironment. This is Debra Farber,music therapist, engaging Deane andDee in her music. She performs everymonth on our campus.

for growing cherries. I hope you findthe following facts on cherriesinteresting.

• Traverse City, Mich., is the homeof the annual Cherry Festival.

• Cherries, especially darkcherries, are a greater source ofantioxidants than grapes,oranges, plums, strawberries andraspberries combined.

• There are more than 1,000different cherry tree varieties inthe U.S.

• It is believed that cherries werediscovered around 70 B.C.

• One cup of cherries has only74 calories.

• Cherries are actually part of therose family.

• The largest cherry pie everweighed was 39,683 pounds.

• Eau Claire, Mich., is known asthe Cherry Pit Spitting Capital ofthe World. It holds an annualcherry pit spitting contest.

• Cherries contain cyanidin,which is an anti-inflammatoryand can help treat gout.
