What is a Gerund? When to use a Gerund? What is an Infinitive? How to use an Infinitive?
Gerund is used for things that have already happened .the gerund is a verb to which “ing” is added.it looks like continuous tense but it is used differently. The gerund is a verb that’s acts like a noun in a sentence. The subject in which the names are used in the sentence is used in the case or the object .the gerund is obtained by adding the ing tag to a verb root. Example:
• swimming is my favourite sport.
• Having to get up early wont bother me at all
Translate El Gerundio se usa para cosas que ya han sucedido. El gerundio es un verbo al que se le agrega “ing”. Parece tiempo continuo, pero se usa de manera diferente. El gerundio es un verbo que actúa como un sustantivo en una
The gerund is used:
• As a noun Smoking is dangerous
• After go for physical activities She went skiing last Sunday
• After the expressions:

The verb itself preceded by to. Infinitive is obtained by adding the suffix “to” in front of the verb or using the verb in plain form. Just like gerund, it is named verb that can be used in the case of a subject or object in a sentence .it can be a single word. sometimes it can be a group of words. Translate El verbo en sí precedido por to. El infinitivo se obtiene agregando el sufijo “to” delante del verbo o usando el verbo en forma simple. Al igual que el gerundio, se llama verbo que se puede usar en el caso de un sujeto u objeto en una oración. Puede ser una sola palabra. a veces puede ser un grupo de palabras.
The infinitive is used:
• To express purpose He went to buy some bread
• After would love/like/prefer I’d love to see you tonight
• After adjectives (angry, glad, happy, sorry, pleased annoyed…) I am glad to see you here
• With too or enough He is too old too drive She is clever enough to understand it

Translation
person in London travels on the underground to see a film but their friend in New York travels on
the subway to see a movie. Otra diferencia es que en el inglés americano deletrear es más fácil.
Por ejemplo, color and traveled son de ingles americano y colour and travelled son ingles
británico.
¿Qué pasará en el futuro con estos dos tipos de inglés? Están cambiando todo el tiempo, pero
muchas personas piensan que se volverán más similares a medida que la gente viaje más, vean las
mismas películas y programas de televisión, e Internet para hablar en inglés con personas en todo
el mundo.
A) Read. Tick off the true sentences and correct the false ones.
1. English failed to be the language of North America. (English slowly became the
language that most people use to work, school and leisure in the United states
and Canada)
2. Europeans planned to set sail to America to find better lives in the New World.
3. When Europeans came to America, natives stopped speaking their own language
at once. (English slowly became the language that most people use to work, school
and leisure)
4. Many people refuse to use English for work. (English become the language that
most people use to work, school and leisure in the United states and Canada)
5. American people avoid using many ‘American’ words because it’s difficult for the
British to understand them (today, British English and American people can
understand each other but there are some differences in their vocabulary,
grammar, and pronunciation)
6. In the future people won’t stop using English.
