Nevada Joint Military Affairs Committee (NJMAC): Maintains effective communication and working relationships between the State of Nevada, Department of Defense branches, Department of Energy and the federal land management agencies that manage installations and lands in Nevada. Discuss plans of mutual interest and, when appropriate, propose actions to address significant issues. The Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance is a public-private partnership focused on growing the economy in Southern Nevada through community development and business recruitment, retention and outreach. Charter School Nellis Leadership is actively exploring the possibility of creating an on-base Charter school with the goal of providing an accelerated, high quality education targeted to Kindergarten through 8th grade students on active duty personnel. Nellis AFB is currently home to Lomie Heard Elementary School, which was built in 1948, and is one of the oldest elementary schools in the Clark County School District. The current lease expires in 2016. Nellis is seeking to lease property a third party investor to build a charter school in Area II. Nellis Solar Array II: Nellis AFB and NV Energy are partnering to construct a 15 MW solar PV array on a closed landfill on Nellis AFB. This project is one of NV Energy’s efforts to comply with NV Senate Bill (SB) 123, the “Emission Reduction Capacity Replacement Plan”. The solar array along with several other NV Energy planned projects will enable them to shut down a coal-fired power generating plant in Clark County. Approximately 50% of the solar power generated will go to the public grid. An electrical substation placed on Nellis will conduct solar energy to the public grid and will also provide Nellis AFB with a redundant power source. Redundant power is critical to the energy security of the national defense mission at Nellis AFB. NV Energy has submitted the project to the Nevada Public Utility Commission in May 2014 and was approved in Dec 2014. Project is expected to be “on-line” by Dec 15.

Nellis Air Base Wing is working with RTC to provide better access to the Mike O'Callaghan Medical Center. The figure shows the current bus stop location and a proposed location. In addition to the new bus stop, the Wing is working to socialize the RTC veterans transport program already in existence that may not be know to the vets who use the VA hospital or the Medical center
