Dear Entering OHSU Medical Students,

I am writing to you one last time as “Entering Medical Students” – when you arrive in person on Monday, August 9, you will officially be first-year medical students at OHSU! We are excited for your arrival and look forward to all of the activities at the Transition to Medical School course. Below, I have provided several final updates for you:

1. The Sakai site for the Transition to Medical School (TTMS) course is now published and is called “TRAN 702 PDX Su21”. There you will find the course syllabus, the schedule for the week, your group assignment, and additional resources. You should have full access to the Sakai site by now, so please let our office know if you are experiencing difficulty logging in. 8. You are strongly encouraged to access and complete the optional pre-matriculation self-assessment and learning block materials in Sakai to help you self-assess and set you up for success for the Fundamentals block. Information about this block was included in my June letter to you, which is posted on the welcome page as well as the Sakai site. Once the TTMS course starts on Monday, August 9, the pre-matriculation block site will be closed.

9. Please remember to complete the OHSU pre-matriculation survey that was sent to you last month. We are hoping to have 100% response rate for this before you start medical school.

10. Additionally, please make sure you have completed all of the pre-matriculation requirements outlined on the welcome page. Your drug screening due date is August 7th. If you need to go to a collection site on August 7th, email Tomo Ito, EdD at [email protected] so that she can provide you with another collection site in NE Portland. If you have not heard from Dr. Ito by now regarding your drug screening, it means she already has your drug screening results (negative results).

11. Final Reminder: Med25 Partner/Family Welcome Event: Behind every medical student is a robust support system of loved ones. On Sunday, August 8th from 3:00pm - 5:00pm, we wanted to celebrate these people by hosting a Med25 Partner/Family Welcome event! This is being hosted at the beautiful and iconic Laurelhurst Park in Southeast Portland. You, your partners and your family are invited! This is an event to hopefully meet new friends and make new connections across classes. It is our goal to build community and provide a welcoming space for Med25 incoming students and their loved ones. Aside from getting to know one another, this will also be a great time to share tips and advice on how to balance having a relationship and/or family while in medical school. We want to get an idea of attendance, so please RSVP with a couple optional questions. We’ll have some door gifts and lawn games as well, but we encourage you to bring your own too!! Due to COVID-19 precautions, we are unable to provide food and will try to make water available. This event is hosted by the Student Wellness and Professionalism Representatives (SWAP), OASIS Life and Wellness, UME Student Affairs, and the School of Medicine Alliance

If the UME Office can be of further assistance to you, please do not hesitate to ask. The welcome page provides a list of contact information so you can direct specific questions accordingly. On behalf of the entire Undergraduate Medical Education team, we look forward to meeting you next week! Remember, check-in begins at 7:30 am in the RLSB learning studios (RLSB 3A001 and 3A002) and the course will begin promptly at 8:00 am. See you soon!

Sincerely,

Tracy Bumsted, MD, MPH, FAAP Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education Professor, Department of Pediatrics

Need internet?

Try eduroam!

Eduroam is a shared global wireless service for research and education. You can connect to the eduroam wireless network with your OHSU email address and password while at an OHSU location and at more than 450 colleges, universities and research facilities in the Unites States.
