Altura Furniture—modern archetypes in the making.

For more than 25 years, Altura Furniture has been designing and manufacturing

innovative, exquisitely crafted contemporary wood furniture. Founded in Manhattan

in 1983 the company has since moved to its current home in Portland, OR where

it operates out of it’s own modern equipped workshop.

Altura’s designs join modern interpretations of classically-inspired forms with

impeccable craftsmanship and refined finishes. The company’s furniture is

available in a wide variety of sizes, configurations and finishes. Altura’s niche

philosophy is to design with the added flexibility of customization to ensure a

successful match with a designers specific criteria.

As designers and builders Altura independently designs, prototypes,

manufactures and finishes every piece to ensure it meets their stringent standards.

From material selection to final sanding, each piece is handmade by a single

furniture specialist.

Altura’s product line now features more than 100 original designs. This award-

winning collection of tables, seating, casegoods and beds are represented through

select design showrooms nationwide.

As a natural material, wood contains variations in color, grain and natural markings because no two pieces of wood are alike. Wood finishes may darken or lighten over time. With exposure to sunlight these changes may occur more rapidly. Stained finishes may vary in consistency because of differences in grain, texture and tones of the raw natural wood. Even with the same finish application, variations in finish may occur due to differences between solid wood and veneer characteristics in the same wood type.

Altura Furniture strives to minimize these inherent variations through a careful wood selection and manufacturing process. Wood is pre-selected for overall grain quality at the supplier and then re-selected for the specific piece of furniture at our workshop. A single furniture specialist hand-builds each piece from raw wood to final sanding. Our finishing department uses a multi-step control sample to check and maintain consistency of our finished products. We take pride in ensuring our furniture conforms to exceptional standards of quality.
