3Alpha Technical Shelters

What is a Technical Shelter?

With the escalating demands for greater coverage and bandwidth, today’s communications networks are placing equipment closer and closer to the end user, often involving remote installations.

Network radios and the systems that keep them powered are often deployed into sites that feature little or no existing infrastructure to house and protect equipment. Enter Technical Shelters.

Technical Shelters are the basic structures for housing and protecting electronics and power equipment, commonly used in telecommunication base stations and remote switching centers. The shelters are typically designed to be discreet, while built to withstand extreme weather conditions and protect the critical internal communication equipment from vandalism and theft.

Alpha Technologies has been an industry leader in DC and AC powering solutions for communications markets for several decades. For the last decade, we have become a prominent supplier of outside plant cabinets, with industry leading thermal management designs. If your network needs shelter solutions, why look any further than the experts in communications power to supply the right housing for your power and electronic equipment?

Alpha has the ability to provide custom shelters that feature:

• Centralized/remote management

• Single or multiple rooms

• Rugged outdoor construction, withstanding vandalism, break-ins, temperature extremes (sun, snow, ice)

• Fire and earthquake resistant

• Impact resistant (including optional bullet proofing)

• Multiple alarms: intrusion, fire, fuel leaks

• Single or redundant climate control systems

Alpha Technical Shelters are GREENEnvironment is always “Top of Mind”Environmental impact is something Alpha is always considering when designing a shelter solution. From redundant fuel spill prevention mechanisms in shelters with generators to the use of free-air cooling to reduce or even eliminate the need for air conditioners, we make sure every shelter qualifies as environmentally friendly.

How do we go from 0 to GREEN?• Every single power device and accessory we use inside of the

shelter is designed to be highly efficient, using energy only for the intended purpose, and reducing energy waste

• Heavily insulated shelters ensure minimum heat waste

• Heat exchangers/Hydronic heating systems

• Solar power options available

• LED based lighting systems to minimize power consumption

For shelters with generators we also include:• Redundant fuel spill prevention mechanisms and high fuel level

visual and audible alarms

• Specially designed fuel tanks not only meet all regulation requirements, but also ensure no fuel is wasted at the bottom of the tank

• Independent fast fuel decrease and fuel leak alarms with remote monitoring

• Generator heat and addition of generator heating core help with the heating of the shelter elements

Specifications

Shelter sizeAlpha’s Technical Shelters come in a broad range of sizes to suit almost any requirement. Shelters can be supplied in single or multiple pieces, or even modular designs. This provides flexibility to accommodate unique installation/transportation scenarios and is more cost effective during the shipping and assembly stages of the project.

Environmental controlsWhile Alpha provides shelters for both indoor and outdoor environments, they may be configured with climate control mechanisms to ensure the internal environmental temperature is suitable for equipment operation during extremely hot and cold weather.

Depending on your thermal management needs, we can even replace air conditioning with free cooling equipment in order to provide energy and costs savings while reducing your shelter’s carbon footprint.

PowerAlpha is a recognized leader in power conversion, protection and standby products as well as alternate energy solutions. We offer complete AC, DC and renewable energy powering solutions, including rugged UPS, advanced, modular indoor and outdoor power enclosures, distribution and system controllers, batteries, EF&I, training and maintenance services.

Special requirementsAlpha’s distinctive excellence is the ability to develop solutions tailored to solve our customers’ unique powering challenges.

All Alpha shelters feature the ability to be fully customized. Bullet proofing, expandable construction, remote detection of fuel leaks, water proofing and seismic resistance are just a few optional features that our shelter engineers are able to integrate into a shelter design.
