    My ALPFA Story

    by Yasnay MontalvoTreasurer

I'm sure that my ALPFA story resembles some of your experiences in the journeywith this organization. I joined ALPFA one year ago after I realized that being an HonorsCollege student, and having a 3.9 GPA was not all. A vague membership in HonorsSocieties and community service activities was not enough to distinguish myself; I wasmissing the professional development. Fortunately, I found the doors open with theALPFA family.

Since my rst semester, I was a very active member, even though I was taking 6classes at the time. I didn't make excuses not to be involved and as a result, ALPFA haverewarded me with several opportunities. I am now proud of showing a decent resume, having successful interviews, and networking with condence. After doing the KPMGcase competition, I have improved my public speaking skills and team work abilities. Insuch a short time, ALPFA has sponsored me to attend different leadership conferencesin North Carolina, Orlando, and the upcoming Convention in California. At ALPFA, we

develop professionals, grow a family, and have tons of fun!

There is not enough space to share with you all my rewarding experience withALPFA, but I want you to keep in mind that you get as much as you put into it. Don'tnd excuses to get out of your comfort zone. Enjoy the journey and you will be pleasedwith the destination!

    My ALPFA Story

    by Marie LangProud ALPFA Member

The rst thing that comes to mind when I think about ALPFA is family. Whatattracted me most to this organization was how everyone made you feel at home.Everyone was approachable and willing to help you.

I began my ALPFA journey Spring 2010. That summer I was given the honor toattend the ALPFA National Convention. This experience made me realize how much

more ALPFA was than just an "association. At convention you grow so close to yourALPFA family, the experience is one that cannot be put into words; however, what I cansay is that I hope everyone can go to at least one convention to go through what I wentthrough. Yes, it is a professional event and there is "work" to be done, but trust me the"work" is nothing when the "play" is oh so much fun. After convention we were allbrought back to reality and the Fall semester began. ALPFA pushed me out of mycomfort zone, I participated in recruiting, the PwC xTAX competition, and so muchmore.

Through ALPFA I have had many ups and downs, but I cannot complain about athing because it has all shaped me into the professional I am today. You learn a lot fromALPFA, and the knowledge you gain from ALPFA cannot be taken away from you. Asanything in life, "it is what you make of it. I encourage you all to step outside your"box" and try new things, with the comfort of knowing ALPFA is able to guide youthrough it all.
