Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back! We hope you all had an enjoyable summer break – it

was certainly a sunny one!

It has been lovely to see all the children again, and, as always, it’s

surprising to see how much they have all grown. Children’s behav-

iour this week has been fantastic and they are settling well into

their new classes.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be having several exciting trips and

visits to start the children’s new topics. Next week there will be a

falconry display for Year 3 on Monday and on Friday Year 4 are

visiting Reculver. On Thursday we have a very exciting day as we

are hosting a visit from Fix Up – an organisation that works with

schools and children to boost self-esteem, confidence and resili-

ence. As well as a whole-school assembly and workshops for Years

5 and 6, they are also offering a drop-in parents’ session in the

afternoon from 2.45-3.15. Everyone is welcome and we hope to see

you there.

Thank you to those of you who have attended ‘Meet the Teacher’

coffee mornings so far. Next week we will hold them for the re-

maining year groups and hope you can come along.

We have had some feedback from parents and carers about drop-

off and collection routines at the start and end of the day. I un-

derstand that it has been very crowded around both gates. We

have already made a change to the end of day routine in KS2 and

parents can now come into the playground at wait at the different

collection points. This seems to be working well and has reduced

congestion. Hopefully next week will be even smoother but please do let me know if you have any other feedback.

Regarding the dropping off in the morning, it has been quite chaotic for our newest Year 1 children this week, who

are finding the crowds and congestion overwhelming. Next week we will keep the gate open for 5 extra minutes –

8.55-9.00 – for Year 1 only. If you have a Year 1 child who is finding the start of the day tricky, you can choose

to bring them in for these last 5 minutes when it is quieter. Please also help us at both times of day, by:

Keeping your littles close to you/holding hands, during these busy times

Avoiding blocking the way with pushchairs etc – park these to the side As soon as your child has been dropped off/collected, move back, to allow space for others

Remind your older children to enter and leave the school calmly and not rush

Next week we have an exciting visit from Fix Up Academy . Our

presenters are Alim Kamara and Junior Crawford and you can see

their biographies and photos and share with the children here:

Jeans for Genes Day on Friday 21st September. Children are invited to wear

jeans along with their usual school shirt and jumper/cardigan. All we ask is a 50

pence donation. Money is being raised to support children and their families who

are affected by genetic conditions.

The field will be open from 8.20am to 8.40am to those entering the Quex cross coun-

try on Sat 6th October. The children will need to wear suitable shoes and clothing and

will need to change into their school uniforms before the start of the school day.

Sport before school will begin again on Thursday 20th September…

Baby Aliens Got My Teacher By Pamela Butchart

Recommend by Holly (Wagtails Y4)

I love this book because it’s really funny and I really like the char-

acters. They are a bit mischievous! The story is about four children

at a school who think that their teacher has been taken over by

baby aliens. The Headteacher gives everyone a toy, which they be-

lieve has a baby alien hiding inside. The book is by Pamela Butchart

who has written other books about the same children – My Teacher

is a Vampire Rat and the Attack of the Dinner Ladies. I would defi-

nitely recommend this book and all of the other books by this au-

thor.

The Imaginary by AF Harold

Reviewed by Mrs Stephens

The Imaginary is a funny, scary and moving book from the

imaginative writer AF Harold. It is about a girl

called Amanda with an imaginary, best friend - Rudger. Only

Amanda can see her friend, until the sinister Mr Bunting ar-

rives at the door. Rudger has to run for his life, but can he

exist without Amanda's imagination? You will have to read it

yourself to find out!

Within the pages of this highly recommended book, there

are astounding illustrations by award-winning Emily Gravett,

who happens to be my favourite illustrator. I think it is a

book for children aged 8+ but my 12 year old daughter read

it recently and couldn't put it down. A brilliant read! Visit

Important Dates/Notices

Over the summer holidays we have had a makeover in our Reception area with the aim to

improve our ability to assist parents and carers in a more effective manner. We hope you will appreci-

ate for security reasons, that we are now filtering who is let through into the school. Our school of-

fice opening hours are 8.30am—4.00pm.

All dinner money and trip monies can be placed into a brown envelope with your child’s name, class,

amount of money enclosed and what it is for and then put into the green box on the wall. This can also

be done for forms or letters that need to be handed in.

Please note that lost property is now kept outside by the entrance to Reception.

As we begin our new academic year, we would like to politely remind you to please ensure that all of

your children's uniforms are labelled, this includes water bottles, all bags and any accessories. This is

greatly appreciated and helps to ensure that any misplaced items are returned to their rightful own-

ers.

With after school clubs commencing next week, we please ask that you pick up your children at 4.20pm

from the school hall doors and not reception. Many thanks.

If your child is absent from school, for any reason, please ensure that you do contact the school office

to inform them at your earliest convenience so that we can inform all relevant parties.

Parents of children in Reception class, please remember that you are able to collect your child from

2.45pm if needed.

If you need another adult to collect your child from school, please ensure that you call us to notify us

so that we can inform the teacher of that class, this is to ensure your child’s safety!

Finally, we would like to remind you that parking to collect children from school is outside of the school

premises, over the road and not in the school grounds. Please park with awareness of those around

you.

Bootfair this coming weekend, Sunday 9th September. Hope to see you there!

Just a reminder that the PTFA AGM (Annual General Meeting) is being held on Wednesday 19th Sep-

tember in the school at 6.30pm. There will be cheese and wine too! Everybody is welcome.
