This year, ten graduates from Wai‘anae and Nānākuli high schools and one from Kamaile Academy received the awards. The scholarships provide $4,000 to each PVT continues to support community efforts to provide food for those who need it. On May 23, 240 trays of fresh eggs— each tray containing 20 eggs—were delivered to Nanaikapono Church in Nānākuli where they were included with other food items and given out to families as part of the church’s drive-through distribution. PVT purchased the eggs from D. Otani Produce, Inc., which also delivered the eggs. Earlier in May, PVT provided 800 hot meals to residents of Mā‘ili Land Transitional Housing in Wai‘anae, Hale Makana o Nānākuli low-income housing in Nānākuli, and to residents of a homeless encampment near Lualualei Road. With traditional graduation ceremonies cancelled due to Covid-19, parents and teachers from Nānākuli High School donned their thinking caps to come up with ways to recognize and celebrate the school’s 126 graduating seniors. So it was that every senior received a swag bag containing a variety of gifts. Included in the swag was a gift card for use at any McDonald’s restaurant, courtesy of PVT. She will study biology at Pacific Lutheran University. Angelica Benicarlo is one of ten Nānākuli High School senior to receive a 2020 PVT scholarship. She is planning to study computer science at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Precious Agtang is one of ten Wai‘anae High School senior to receive a 2020 PVT scholarship. She is planning to study nursing at Hawai‘i Pacific University.
