General This release of HP ALM 11.51 represents Service Pack one of the latest release of HP ALM 11.50. This is a private release and should be used by ALM 11.5 customers in conjunction with UFT 11.5.

Important Notes HP Business Process Testing HP Business Process Testing is in Technology Preview. It will be released formally after completion of the Technology Preview period.

Service Test To run Service Test type tests from HP ALM using Service Test 11.2 (locally or remotely), install patch 8 over Service Test 11.2 and perform all configuration steps that are described in Service Test 11.2 patch 8 documentation.

Change of Behavior You now open the Details dialog box of an entity in a grid view by clicking the entity’s ID hyperlink in the ID column. This functionality replaces double-clicking the entity in the grid. This change of behavior is introduced to accommodate proper in-line editing of the editable grids and improve overall perfomance. The Details dialog box also can be opened from the corresponding context menu and pulldown menu options, or CTRL+D (CTRL+ALT+D in nested grids).

Known Limitations Installation

• MSI Generator does not support Spider named 11.50.nnnn [Ref 198885] • Once HP ALM 11.51 is installed on top of HP ALM 11.50, HP ALM 11.51 cannot be removed with the

installation reverting back to HP ALM 11.50. Uninstalling HP ALM 11.51 requires uninstalling HP ALM 11.50 entirely.

• Installing with setup.exe in silent mode does not work when executed by a non-interactive user. Silent installation can be achieved by using the MSP installation option; However, when using the MSP option, the HP ALM server system tray icon process must be terminated first: 1. Open the command line as an administrator. 2. Execute the command: taskkill.exe /F /IM ALMTrayIcon.exe

• When installing the this patch over ALM 11.50 using MSP the following parameters should be used: msiexec /p SP1_Public.msp REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=emus

Business Process Testing • Sharing operations for libraries that contain Business Process Testing entities (such as business process

tests and business components) are not supported. [Ref: 200730] • Business Process Testing Enterprise Extension (BPTEE) is not supported in ALM 11.50. ALM 11 (or

earlier) projects requiring the BPTEE extension, should not be upgraded to ALM 11.50. • When working with business process tests from within Unified Functional Testing (UFT) on different

virtual machines while logged in with the same user, only one license of Business Process Testing is consumed (instead of consuming a license for each virtual machine). [Ref: 200058]

• Business components that were created using QuickTest Professional 9.2 and earlier cannot run when using UFT 11.50. Contact support for a workaround. [Ref: 200594]

• When running business process tests that use business components which are included in the solution but checked-in, these components become read-only and it is impossible to check them out. To circumvent this limitation, remove the business components from the solutions and add them again. [Ref: 200451]

• Components that are not executed due to an unmet Run condition do not appear in the UFT run report and are not reflected in the Run status. Nevertheless, the run report in HP ALM does show the expected result. [Ref: 200773]

Lab Management • To work with the new Lab Management feature, you must increase the number of database connections

to 200. • Lab Management Service cannot connect to HP ALM Server when using an Internet proxy server that is

set for user accounts but not for local system accounts. In this case, explicitly configure the service to use the proxy server by modifying the configuration file HP.ALM.Lab.Agent.RemoteService.exe.config which resides in C:\Program Files\HP\HP ALM Lab Service. Follow the MSDN intructions that are available in this link. [Ref 201516]

• The Run report cannot be viewed if the execution of a Service Test is stopped explicitly. [Ref 200813] • Lab management projects that are named using double byte characters cannot be upgraded. [Ref

201043] • All HP ALM components (meaning, HP ALM client, HP ALM Server, and Load Balancer) must

communicate via the same protocol—either only HTTP or only HTTPS. [Ref 201572]

• Templates cannot be created from a QCP file with LAB extension enabled. You can however use the Import Project from Project File option to import the QCP file from within the Template Projects folder under your domain. [Ref 202141]

CIT • CIT is not supported in ALM 11.50. Do not upgrade ALM 11 (or earlier) projects requiring the CIT

extension to ALM 11.50.

Sprinter • Unexpected behavior may be experienced when using Sprinter in conjunction with the ALI extension. To

solve this matter, manually register the ALI extension library file using the following command line syntax: regsvr32 <ALM client path>/AliExtension.dll [Ref 113322]

New Features and Enhancements The following are highlights of this release. For more information and full overview of the new features and enhancements, refer to the What’s New document that is installed with this release.

HP Application Lifecycle Management Options Window The ALM Options Window has an Open in Full Screen mode icon that opens ALM in Full Screen mode. Full Screen mode enables you to take advantage of the entire screen when using HP ALM.

ALM Grid Performance Improvement ALM grid performance has been improved with faster inline editing, by converting the 'open entity' functionality from double-click to ID field link and CTRL+D shortcut.

Add-ins, Movies, and What's New A newly-designed resources page is now available for easier access to add-ins, movies, and What's New information. What's New information and movies are grouped by release. Add-ins are categorized by HP applications, Microsoft applications, and other utilities.

Excel Reports You can create Excel reports based on business views you define and manage in Project Customization. To create Excel reports based on business views, install the HP ALM Business Views Microsoft Excel Add-in. For details, see the HP Application Lifecycle Management User Guide.

Automatic Upgrade of Minor-Minor Versions The upgrade of minor-minor versions, even those that affect database schema, is now automatic, and the order of upgrade is determined according to priorities you set. For example, you can give your most critical projects highest priority so they are upgraded before less critical projects.

Assessment Website A new service is now available on the web to help you better assess your current ALM deployment and get tailored recommendations to improve your ALM configuration. The collected data can also be helpful when contacting support.

Installation Instructions This patch is intended to be installed over HP ALM 11.50 only. It is recommended to verify the installed version of HP ALM by going to versions.xml file that is located under the [ALM Installation folder]\conf\ directory. The default ALM Installation folder on Windows OS is c:\Program Files\HP\HP Application LifeCycle Management 11.50. The default ALM Installation folder on Linux\Unix OS is /opt/HP/HP_ALM_Server.

• In this section, “ALM Server” refers to the server machine on which HP ALM Platform is installed. All operations detailed below should be performed on the ALM Server machine.

• IMPORTANT: To prevent loss of files that were added or changed please consider the following procedure:

• Any file added or changed under <ALM Deployment folder>\webapps\qcbin should be copied to <ALM Deployment folder>\application\qcbin.war including the folder tree hierarchy.

• Any file added or changed under <ALM File repository folder>\sa should be copied to <ALM File repository folder>\customerData including the folder tree hierarchy.

• After installing the patch and updating the deployment with the changes, the deployment process copies your files back to QCBIN and the SA file repository.

• Factory files that were edited locally and placed in the backup folders might override the corresponding new files of the patch.

Installing the Patch This section describes how to install the patch on the ALM Server. Notes:

• Before installing the patch, make sure that all users are logged out of ALM. You can check active connections from Site Administration, in the Site Connections tab.

• If ALM Server is deployed over a cluster, you must install the patch on each of the cluster nodes.

• EXE Installation

o The MSP file is mandatory for a proper ALM’s EXE installer execution. The file should be kept in-place.

• MSP Installation

o Executing the MSP version instead of executing the installer’s executable (EXE) requires the termination of the ALM’s server system-tray icon process otherwise unexpected behavior may be experienced. Stop ALM’s server system-tray icon processes by opening the CMD window as administrator and type the next command: taskkill.exe /F /IM ALMTrayIcon.exe

o In the same CMD window type the next command: msiexec /p SP1_Public.msp REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=emus

• After the patch is installed, the next time users log in to ALM, new files are downloaded and installed on the client machines. If file downloads are prohibited through your browser, you can install these files using the HP ALM Client MSI Generator add-in on the HP ALM Add-ins page, or contact HP Customer Support (http://support.openview.hp.com/) for assistance.

On your ALM Server, run the appropriate patch installation file for your server’s operating system, and follow the installation and deployment instructions.

System Requirements Starting with ALM 11.50, the application server is part of the core HP ALM functionality. HP ALM is no longer hosted by a third party application server. When setting up the HP ALM server machine, consider the following:

64-bit support:

• For UNIX, only Solaris 10 Sparc 64-bit is supported in ALM 11.50. • It is recommended to increase permsize and heapsize. For more information, refer to Performance Tuning

Best Practices for ALM at HP Software Product Manuals.

IPv6 support:

ALM 11.50 can work on IPv6-enabled systems. However, ALM is still developed within an IPv4 environment. This means that in ALM 11.50:

• Data communication is possible using IPv4 transport. • Management communication can be over IPv4 transport. • The presence of the IPv4 network stack is required. For the most up-to-date supported environments, refer to the HP Software Web site using the following URL: http://www.hp.com/go/TDQC_SysReq
