Darling Downs Athletes to State TitlesAllora State School students have once again shown their prowess on the sports field. Brodie Sharman, Matthew Denny and Clare Kanowski all competed in the Darling Downs Secondary Track and Field Trials a couple of weeks ago in Toowoomba and all three were selected to compete in the State Athletics Championships to be held in Brisbane in October.Congratulations also to Jack Bannister, who competed in the Darling Downs Primary Track and Field Trials, and was selected to compete in the State Primary Athletics.Clare took out the bronze medal in the Girls 15 Year discus, throwing a State qualifying distance into the bargain.Brodie won gold in the long jump, silver in the discus and bronze in the shot put for Boys 14 Years. All were state qualifying performances, including his time in the 100 meters.Matthew Denny won gold in the shot put, discus and hammer throw for Boys 14 Years, again, all of which were state qualifying performances.Jack Bannister, competing in the Primary trials won gold in both discus and shot put for Boys 12 Years, performances that qualified him for competition in the State Primary Championships. All four students will continue their busy training schedules in preparation for the Queensland State Schools Track and Field Championships to be held in Brisbane from 21st to 24th October. These fantastic achievements are not only a great credit to the schools young athletes, but also to their tireless coaches. Matthew is coached by Mr. Graeme Pitt from Toowoomba. Mr. Paul Bannister, who is president of Little Athletics in Warwick, uses his coaching expertise to assist Clare, Brodie and Jack to achieve their outstanding performances, and I’m sure the whole community wishes them the very best of luck in the upcoming State Championships.

BAD JOKE OF THE WEEKA husband, proving to his wife that women talk more than men, showed her a study

which indicated that men use on the average only 15,000 words a day, where

as women use 30,000 words a day.

She thought about this for a while and then told her husband that women use twice as many words as men because

they have to repeat everything they say.

He said, "What?"
