COACH OF THE YEAR ASHLEY MORENO Auburn Moreno guided the Eagles to the first-ever Class 1 girls soccer championship contested by the VHSL, with her team beating Stonewall Jackson- Quicksburg on penalty kicks in the finals. Auburn (18-1) hadn’t had a game go to overtime before that point. The fifth-year coach completely rebuilt the back line before steering her club to its first state tournament appearance in six years as a program. She was named the MVP of the National Association of Chris- tian Athletics tournament after netted seven times in four games. That included two goals in the champion- ship match, in which Dayspring tied the Beach Breakers 2-2 in regulation and lost 5-4 on PKs. A member of the Virginia Olympic Development program, Kennedy played forward and midfield for Dayspring but is mov- ing to defender at the University of Richmond this fall.
