Read On... The Chapter One Book Club will meet April 17th at 7:00pm at Nan D’Ercoli’s home to discuss “A Man

Called Ove” by Fredrik Backman.

Please call Jane Oppermann (847-277-7715) for more information or to let her know you are interested in becoming a part of our book discussion group.

PADS Volunteer Appreciation Dinner Everyone who helped with All Saints’ ministry to the homeless this season is

invited to a celebratory dinner on Friday, May 5th. “Whether you were a shift-worker once a month or more; cooked or shopped for food (even if it was only one loaf of bread); or frequently vacuumed carpets on Sunday morning, we want to recognize your contribution to this important work,” said Co-Site Director Tom Germuska. “Come and join your co-workers for a casual supper,” he added. “Everyone is important to this ministry.”

As in the past there will be a meet-and-greet in the Gathering Space starting at 5:30 pm with some appetizers, a buffet dinner will be served at 6:15 pm Some brief remarks will follow dinner and guests can plan on leaving by 7:30 pm; plenty of time to catch a movie or do something else that evening.

Get Ready for Gardening and Support our Preschool Ministry

Little Saints Christian Preschool is offering a large variety of flowers and vegetables during our annual fundraiser. The selection is similar to last year with some new choices. No price increases – still very competitive and the same great quality from our Michigan grower.

We are taking orders through Sunday, April 23

Delivery will be on Saturday morning, May 20

Order sheets are available in the gathering space or on the preschool’s website http://

allsaintspalatine.org/little-saints-christian-preschool/. If you are looking for a particular plant and do not see it listed on the order sheet, please talk to us.

New this year: We are excited to support the Partners for Our Communities

(POC) Community Garden

All Saints Lutheran and our members have supported POC for many years through volunteering and other ways. Their Community Garden on Hicks Road provides fresh food and learning experi-ences for POC families.

Support that effort with a donation of vegetable plants. Donations sheets are

available in the Gathering Space.

If you have any questions, please talk to Wendy Gumz, Jenny Komoll, Nancy Grybash or Monika Fiedler or e-mail [email protected].

Thank you for your continued support of our preschool ministry.

2017 Golf Outing

The 24th annual ASLC Golf Outing will take place at

the historic Lake Zurich Golf Club on Thursday, July 20th with a Shot Gun start at 1:00 P.M. The event follows a scramble format.

The annual Golf Outing is simple just a fun event and

a great way to meet folks. You don’t need to be very good at golf as the game is a four-man team event and the teams are balanced with talent (or lack thereof.)

Golf will include the usual beverages and snacks. After golf, we will enjoy a delicious bar-b-que at the

church and award prizes. The golf fee will be $40, cart rental, if needed, will be $12 per person, while the banquet remains at $12 this year. The event, including the banquet, is again open to friends and family mem-bers.

We encourage new members to participate. And, for

us old timers, let’s get the new members to attend. So, grab your friends and sign up for a great time.

Put July 20th on your calendar and if you have

questions, please contact Dennis Kosko (Cell: 847-207-4888; e-mail: [email protected])

Committees Need You

Do you have a few hours a month to make All Saints a stronger place? We could use your help. You could help by joining a committee. It’s not as boring as it sounds. Each committee operates a little differently, but mostly you meet once per month and share your ideas and per-haps take on a small task or two. That’s it. But it makes a world of difference. If you’d like to help, we could use you with our Worship, Property (building maintenance), Outreach (making All Saints known in the community), Stewardship (helping us use all of our time and talents

and treasure wisely), Technology (computers and IT), Financial Support (money, money, money), Learning, Social Ministry and other Committees. Talk with ei-ther of the pastors and we’ll get you hooked up.

Summer Suppers Project resumes May 10; Feeding the hungry is an ideal family opportunity

All Saints participation in the summer-long ecumenical program to feed the hun-gry in the Northwest suburbs, will resume Wednesday, May 10. The once-a-month Summer Suppers are an ideal opportunity for families with teens and tweens to vol-unteer together; Confirmation students can use Summer Suppers to accumulate service hours.

We will open our doors and serve a community meal on the second Wednesday of May, June, July, August and September—the months when the PADS shelters are closed. Holden Evening Prayer worship is at 7:30 p.m. on the same night as Sum-mer Supper and members of the congregation are welcome to be part of the com-munity and come for supper before worship. Supper is served starting at 6:30 p.m. and the doors close at 8 p.m.

Although the program was designed to provide nutritious meals for homeless per-sons during summer, all are welcome. All Saints posts information about the sup-pers at both the Palatine and Rolling Meadows Senior Centers and distributes flyers at both the Palatine Township and Bethel food pantries

Members can support the program by helping serve and clean up, cooking or buy-ing food or making by a donation. Each night we need a dozen volunteers as well as food-donors to cook and shop for the meals we serve. Volunteers each night work 2½ hour shifts starting at either 5:30 or 6 p.m. No training is required alt-hough youth volunteers must work with a parent.

A sign-up book is on the narthex table. Send email to [email protected] if you want more information.

For All to Know Christ 4 Saints Alive! April 2017

Recipe for Life 1 cup - Good Thoughts 1 cup - Kind Deeds 1 cup - Consideration for Others 3 cups - Forgiveness 2 cups - Well-Beaten Faults

Mix thoroughly and add tears of joy, sorrow and sympathy for others. Fold in 4 cups of Prayer and Faith to lighten other ingredients, and raise the texture to great heights of Christian living. After pouring this into your family, bake well with the heat of human kindness and serve with a smile.

Let’s Meet & Eat Surprising Find

What a surprise when I looked in the Prayer Shawl bin to find several added from our new members from Bethel. Thank you so much! We now have a good stock for the next couple of months.

As always, prayer shawls and baptismal blankets are welcome. Please give them to me and I will store them until the next bless-ing, which will be Sunday, May 7.

Again, thanks to all who have made this such a great ministry for our congregation.

Nancy Oakford
