Lost and Found

We would ask that you encourage your child to check the lost and found articles at school if they are missing articles of clothing. The pile of lost clothing in the lost and found has been increasing. If these articles are not claimed by Monday, June, 24th they will be donated to charity. You may also call the school and make an appointment to come and check the lost and found articles.

Catholic School Parent Council (CSPC) News

On behalf of the Catholic School Parent

Council, we would like to take this opportunity to

thank all of that parents of All Saints school for

another great year. Your donations have gone

to help Literacy and numeracy development,

social and educational programming, school

technology enhancement programs and sports

& leadership programs for our kids. All of these

great initiatives would not have been possible

without your support. We would also like to

thank all of those who volunteered and help

throughout the year.

Wishing you and your families a wonderful

summer, and looking forward to a great

2019/2020 school year.

The next CSPC meeting will be taking place on

Monday, June 10th, 2019 at 7:00 pm in the staffroom.

Everyone is welcome.

The Sacrament of Confirmation

First Reconciliation Holy Communion

“Rejoice with me I have found my sheep who was lost.”

On April 30th, after prayer and preparation, All Saints’ Grade 2 students gathered at the Church to celebrate God’s forgiveness through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Their parents presented their children to a priest for him to hear their First Confession. Reconciliation is about the story of the “Good Shepherd” who welcomes with joy, the lost sheep and issues the invitation to others.

“He took bread, and broke it, and gave it to them.”

On May 11th and May 18th, our students received

their First Holy Communion at All Saints Church.

Celebrating the First Eucharist allowed the

students entry for the first time, into the full

celebration of the Eucharist. They are sent forth,

filled with the Holy Spirit, to continue to share in this

Holy meal. In receiving their first Eucharist children

learned that Jesus will always be with them, will

help strengthen them, and that He loved them very

much.

It was a memorable milestone for the students and

their families as they grow in their faith. We thank

Father Andrzej Glaba, all the teachers and

community members who prepared the students

for their Sacraments, as well as the parents for

preparing their children to receive these special

sacraments.

Congratulations to all the students! May you always

feel Jesus’ love and presence in your lives as He

guides your way and nourishes your faith!

“Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit to bring us closer

together in the family of the Church.”

On Saturday June 8th and Sunday, June 9th,

students will be receiving the sacrament of

Confirmation. On behalf of all the staff at All Saints,

we would like to congratulate the students on

receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit and we thank the

parents, the sponsors, and all family members for

their loving support.

First Day Procedure for Tuesday, September 3, 2019.

The first day of school for the 2019-2020 academic year

will be Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Students are

asked to go directly to the school yard where class lists will be posted on the walls. We ask all the children to

meet their teachers at their posted grade levels at the

bell time of 8:30 a.m.

All Saints Fun Fair! The All Saints Fun Fair was held on Saturday, June 1st , and to say the least, it was a HUGE success! Our families enjoyed many activities such as an Inflatable Play Area, 24 Foot Rock Climbing Wall, Video Game Bus with all new games and consoles, fire trucks, police cars, and face painting. There were also carnival games, food and popcorn. Many of our families also enjoyed the Bake Sale. All in all, it was a fabulous day that created many memories for the students and families of All Saints. We would like to thank our CSPC for organizing and running the event, as well as many parent and student volunteers. The hard work and effort that went into planning and making this day such a memorable event for our students and families of All Saints has not gone unnoticed. Thank you for putting smiles on the childrens’ faces and bringing the community together!

Safe & Caring

Schools

Visitors to the School

Toronto Catholic District School Board policy states that all visitors to the school MUST report to the office. This is foremost to ensure the safety of all students. In an effort to promote the independence of the students and to ensure the integrity of programs by minimizing interruptions during class time, we request that students arrive on time for the school day with all the items they require (i.e. homework, lunch, physical education).

Allergen Aware

Please take special note that we have children in our school who have very serious allergies to nut products. According to Sabrina’s Law, we must make every effort to maintain a nut free environment in order to help keep all children safe. We ask that you not bring in or send in any food items to be shared with other students in the class. Please note that baked goods and treats are not permitted. We apologize for the inconvenience; however, we are certain you will agree that these measures are necessary in order to ensure the safety and welfare of our children.

Personal Property

The school does not take any responsibility for the loss or theft of personal items brought onto school premises by students. The school will therefore, not reimburse or replace lost or stolen articles, under any circumstances. This will include all articles of clothing (label items with a marker); personal school supplies such as fancy or expensive pens, markers, binders and pencil cases, etc.; simple or electronic toys, calculators, laptops, iPod’s, CD’s, cell phones, etc. Please note that collector cards of any kind are not permitted, in addition to all cell phones and any other social media devices. These items will be immediately confiscated by staff and brought to the Principal’s attention. We ask both parents and students for their full co-operation in this matter.

(Please note that the Board’s insurance policy does not cover property owned by staff or students).

Safe Arrival

To report your child as late of absent, please use one of the following options: Call: 1(833) 251-3286 Online: go.schoolmessenger.ca Mobile App: SchoolMessenger Attendance referrals will be sent to the Social Worker and persistent tardiness may result in progressive discipline. Students are expected to arrive prior to the bell. All students are to arrive prepared to work and learn. Preparation includes completing daily assignments that are done to the best of the individual student’s ability and the responsibility to study in advance for tests.

A Matter of Safety

Please ensure that your children are dressed appropriately for the warm weather. They should have a hat and appropriate footwear. Running shoes and socks are considered appropriate footwear. We ask that students not come to school with sandals and/or flip flops as they can pose a hazard to students when they are playing outside.

Inclement Weather

On days when the weather is inclement, the students may be permitted to enter the building at 8:15 am. On such days, the recess periods may be indoor and those students who stay for lunch will be supervised in the building. Weather conditions must be particularly severe, cold weather alone does not warrant an early entry into the building or indoor recess periods. Those decisions will be made accordingly. We believe that children profit greatly from recess breaks as they get out into the fresh air and burn off some energy in play activities. This will make them more alert and ready to continue their studies when they come in. It is important for children, particularly the younger children in the primary grades, to come to school dressed properly for the weather. A reminder to everyone that students who are well enough to be at school are well enough to go out for recess. We do not have personnel to supervise students who wish to stay in for recess due to illness. If they are too ill to go out for recess, then they should be home for the day. This will allow for quicker recovery and less teaching and learning time lost to illness. For information on the TCDSB Guidelines for weather conditions, please go to

http://www.tcdsb.org/FORSTUDENTS/HealthandSafety/Documents/GuidelinesforWeatherConditions.pdf

A reminder that the school parking lot is for staff only. Please do not use it for parking as we do not have enough spots for staff. Our students

have been instructed not to enter the parking lot for safety reasons. Father Glaba has graciously volunteered the use of the church parking lot for our parents. Please observe and respect the “in” and “out” flow in the church parking lot. There is absolutely NO PARKING in the handicapped spaces, or in the fire route at the front of the school. The fine is substantial and we need to have those spaces clear for their appropriate use by those that need them. A reminder to all that Renault is strictly a “Drop Off Kiss and Ride”, and there is absolutely no parking permitted within the sign boundaries. Everyone is encouraged to use the Kiss and Ride in the school parking lot. Police and Parking Enforcement have assured us that Renault will be closely monitored for proper use.

Medication

Principals, teachers and support staff of the TCDSB are not permitted to administer any type of prescription medication during the school day, unless we have written authorization signed by you the parent, and the prescribing physician. The forms to dispense any medication must be updated on a regular basis and are available from the school principal. Please be advised that staff in TCDSB schools will not dispense non-prescription medications to students. Students who need “puffers” should have one at school and at home. All medications will be stored in the main office. Please notify the school if your child suffers from any type of allergy.

Library News

As we approach the end of the school year, we

would like to ask for your cooperation in returning

library books to the library by Friday, June, 14th .

Please also remember to return book bags, as

they may be re-labelled and re-used again next

year. Thank you kindly!

Extra-Curricular Activities Volunteer Tea

On the morning of June 5th, All Saints will open our doors and warmly welcome our volunteers into the gymnasium. The tea was a small thank you from the staff and students to the volunteers who have assisted the school on numerous occasions throughout the school year. During the tea, volunteers will be entertained by musical performances. Without all of our volunteers, All Saints would not be the special place that it is. Thank you to everyone who volunteered at the school this year, your efforts and talents are greatly appreciated.

Jump Rope for Heart 2019 The Annual Jump Rope for Heart Event took place on Friday, May, 3rd.The rainy weather did not stop us from jumping. The entire student population took turns jumping in the gym to raise funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funds raised will help to support research, education and place defibrillators in public buildings. Funds raised also earn All Saints points for sporting equipment and electronic items for the school. Fundraising prizes for the students will be distributed by mid-June. We have officially met our goal of raising $9000! Thank you very much for supporting this important cause.

Special Olympics Race On May 23rd, All Saints participated in the TCDSB Special Olympic Race at Varsity Stadium. This event was a fun and inspirational event for all athletes, coaches and spectators. The students ran in 60m sprint races and were indeed brave in their attempts. We were proud of their accomplishments. Congratulations go out to Teresa Barbara, Christian Balzamo, Dominic Paula, and Frank Maltezos, for showing us all what success truly is.

Grade Eight Graduation On June 17th, our Grade eight students will bid their last formal farewell to All Saints School. We will bid our final farewell to the graduates in our “Clap Out.” Our graduates will walk through the school to the respectful applause of the rest of the school lined up outside their classrooms. We look forward to this very special time for all! Staff and students will participate in day-long activities after this farewell. A dance will be held at Julius Banquet Hall followed by a formal graduation dinner and later that evening we will convene at the Julius Banquet Hall for our Annual Awards Presentations and Ceremony.

All Saints is pleased to announce that The Angel Foundation for Learning, the charitable organization devoted to assisting students within TCDSB schools, has approved our school’s funding request in support of our excursion to Niagara Falls. Serving TCDSB students and making a positive difference, we congratulate The Angel Foundation for Learning for helping students since its inception in 1987. Donations to the Foundation are welcome and can be sent to: The Angel Foundation for Learning, 80 Sheppard Avenue East, Toronto, ON M2N 6E8. Tax receipts for donations of $20.00 or more will be issued. For more information about the Foundation visit www.angelfoundationforlearning.org

All Saints Swim Team

On May 4th and 5th, the Toronto Catholic District School Board held its annual Swim Meet. There were over 1,200 students from 30 different schools who participated in the event. All Saints was represented by 38 students from Grades 2 to 8. Congratulations to all the swimmers from the All Saints team for a job well done. We made it to the Finals in 12 of the 74 events and placed 24th overall out of the 30 schools. This was a good showing considering All Saints was one of the smaller teams at the Meet and we had many “first-time” participants representing the school. The team consisted of the following swimmers: Madison Attard Jason Belluzzo Gabriel Bobadilla Lorena Brotto Sabrina Brotto Damian Cappella Isabella Centritto John Centritto Cassandra Cescon Andriy Chuyko

Mila Cianfarani Julianne Dias Amelia Dolezel Isabella Dolezel Arianna Faienza Andreya Flemmich Sarah Mafrici Eleanora Masri Krystyna McMullan Erwin Michaud

A special congratulations to Isabella Centritto, Cassandra Cescon, Julianne Dias, Amelia Dolezel, Isabella Dolezel, Maja Monahan, Mariana Rivera, Esana Sipar and Tessa Tagliarino on qualifying for the finals. Thank you to all the swimmers for your commitment to the team and for proudly representing All Saints. Also, thank you to the parent coaches: Carla Dias, Felix Dolezel, Sabina Dolezel, Laura Monahan, Gabe Piccolo and Michelle Piccolo for volunteering their time to run the team. Thank you to Adam Belluzzo, Nicole Belluzzo, Michael Dodaro, Robert Flaim and Mariana Masri who also assisted as student volunteers. We encourage everyone to come out for the Swim Team next year and be part of a truly memorable event.

Eco School The Green Team has been very busy the last couple of months organizing our Earth Hour in March and our City of Toronto Clean Up Day in April. On March 29th, students and staff participated in Earth Hour from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. We closed our classroom lights, corridor lights, and any electronics, and opened our blinds to let the sunshine in. Earth Hour was a great success. Our Clean-Up Day on April 29th went well with students cleaning up our school grounds, All Saints Church’s green areas, and also our intermediate students travelled to the church and cleaned up that green area. We look forward to maintaining our Platinum Eco-School status for 2019-2020 school year. Thank you All Saints students, parents, and staff for a wonderful year.

EQAO Testing

Our Grade 3 and 6 students participated in the Education Quality and Accountability Office’s (EQAO’s) Assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics from May 21st to June 3rd 2019. The assessment is administered province-wide and is developed by Ontario teachers and assessment experts to reflect curriculum expectations. We thank all of our Grade three and six teachers for their efforts in supporting our students during this testing period. CAT– 4 Testing Our Grades 2, 5 and 7 students participated in CAT- 4 testing from May 13th to May 17th 2019. The results of this testing will not be used for report card purposes. The data provides individual student, school and system indicators of academic performance which can help in the planning of a good teaching program for students by identifying areas of strength and weakness. Individual students’ and this school’s results will be available in the fall of the year 2019. We thank all of our grade two, five and seven teachers for their efforts in supporting our students during this testing period.

Student Award Assemblies

All Saints Catholic School will continue to hold our Student Awards Assemblies in the gym. Our assembly will recognize students who have demonstrated the Virtues of the Month (March– Forgiveness, April–Justice, May–Compassion, and June-Faithfulness) and students who display an active living and learning lifestyle by participating to the best of their ability in Daily Physical Activity. It will take place on Tuesday June 25th with the Grade 4-7 assembly beginning at 9:15 a.m. and including the Honour Roll and Grades 1-3 at 12:45 p.m. We will also continue to recognize one student per grade for the Virtue of the Month and the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations.

Guidance Corner for June There are a number of summer learning opportunities available for intermediate students. A Summer Enrichment Camp for Grade 6, 7 and 8 students helps to continue the development of necessary skills for success in both Literacy and Numeracy. https://www.tcdsb.org/ProgramsServices/ContinuingEducation/Pages/Default.aspx The Summer Reach Ahead program offers students going into Grade 9, the opportunity to earn a high school credit through a variety of learning experiences at the high school they will be attending in September. You would have received registration information about the Summer Transition course in the acceptance package your child received from their September high school. Graduating Grade 8 students can now begin their Community Involvement hours beginning July 1st. Guidelines on how to attain this graduation requirement can be found at: https://www.tcdsb.org/programsservices/schoolprogramsk12/guidancecooped/communityservice40hours/Pages/default.aspx The Footsteps to Success summer day camp is being offered at St. Timothy, Saint Mother Teresa and Father Henry Carr during July and August. This free camp is available for children aged 10-13. More information and registration forms can be found here: https://footstepstosuccesstcdsb.weebly.com/ It is important to keep your child active and motivated to continue learning during the summer months. Be creative with how you can involve your child in a variety of inexpensive and entertaining learning opportunities during July and August. Want instant alerts about your child’s absence? Sign Up for School Messenger To enhance our existing absence-checking procedure we introduced a new student absence reporting system called

SafeArrival making it easier for you and staff to verify student attendance. With SafeArrival, you are asked to report

your child’s absence in advance using any of these 3 convenient methods:

1. Using your mobile device, download and install the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store or the

Google Play Store (or from the links at https://go.schoolmessenger.com). The first time you use the app, select

Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance then Report an Absence.

2. Use the SafeArrival website, https://go.schoolmessenger.com. The first time you use the website, select Sign

Up to create your account. Select Attendance then Report an Absence.

3. Call the toll-free number 1 (833) 251-3286 to report an absence using the automated phone system.

These options are available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. Future absences can be reported at any time up to a maximum

of 10 consecutive days. It is important to note that when setting up your account, you must register using the email

address and phone number associated with your child’s Trillium account. In addition, schools will use the

SchoolMessenger Communicate automated notification system to contact parents whose child is absent when the

absence was not reported in advance.

Get Updates on School Bus Service Register for the Toronto Student Transportation Group Parent Portal to receive real time notifications about school bus

Rooted in Christ: we Belong, we Believe, we Become (Pastoral Plan) Throughout the year, we have seen our Pastoral Plan come to life in our school communities in many different ways, as

we witnessed how our students and staff continue to be welcoming places of learning, where all are included and all

are accepted, all are valued and all belong.

Visit our website to see all the submissions from across the Board:

Some of the photos from the year-end event have been posted to our website

https://www.tcdsb.org/board/nurturingourcatholiccommunity/news/2018-2019/pages/webelong.aspx and we hope to

add a short video of the highlights from the day to that page soon as well.

REMINDER: In September 2019 we shift our focus to “we Believe”.

A Summer Gloria

Glory be to God...

for clear blue skies and sunny days

for fresh green grass and leafy trees

for vivid purple flowers and well-tended gardens

for fluffy white clouds and gentle breezes

for bright red buses and busy streets

Glory be to God...

for people stepping out with sandaled feet

for children playing games with delighted squeals

for picnics and street parties

for street traders and market stalls

for long days and short nights

for open-topped buses and open-necked shirts.

Glory be to God...

for seasons

for summer

for sunshine

(A prayer by Chick Yuill)
