WAPITI WIND SEPTEMBER 2017

Fellow Members,

As summer starts to wane we look for-ward to the return of our many friends and out of state members. I once heard that you can tell when it’s autumn in Lake Havasu City, the license plates start to change. The repairs in the bar will be completed this month with the Lodge ready to serve draft beer again. I appreci-ate our members patience during this

ELKETTE PRESIDENT MESSAGE

Summer is quickly coming to an end

even as temperatures are still at 100+. I

think all of us are ready to get back to

the very busy time from September thru

April and May, and for the Elkettes, even

in June with Father’s Day Breakfast

Brunch. I, for one, am anxious to get

going. Then, like every year, at the end

of January I’ll probably be complaining about how tired I am

and looking forward to summer again. But, as it is August, we

are actively preparing for our Fashion Show Luncheon on Octo-

ber 7. Tickets will be on sale in September for $15.00. This

event is shaping up nicely and sells out every year, so don’t wait

too long to buy tickets.

The Elkettes will also be on hand for the family picnic on Sep-

tember 17. Side dishes and Horse Races are on the agenda that

day. Fun for the whole family is to be had.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to extend kudos to the

Elkettes who have so unselfishly agreed to chair the various

fund raisers, Joyce Lundstrom & myself for the Fashion Show,

Jan Przysiecki for the Craft Fair, Lynn Hall and Donna Nelson

for Kids turn to Shop, Kay Wdowiak for the Rummage Sale,

and Debbie Whitlock-Roush for the Crazy Auction, all between

October and March. This organization would not and could not

function without the extended list of Elkette volunteers who

consistently assist with all of our events. Because of all

Elkettes, I am anticipating a “Banner Year”, so Thank You.

Respectfully submitted, Paulette Nainteau Elkette President 2017-2018 (928) 680-1654

GOLF CLUB NEWS

The summer golf season is in full

swing. The August away tournament

was held at Elephant Rock G.C. in Wil-

liams this year. As always I’m sure

there was cooler weather, great golf

conditions and good times at the Can-

yon Club. Hope our guys beat the lo-

cals in shuffleboard. The next away

tournament will be held at Cerbat Golf

Course on Sept. 18th, make sure you all sign up.

There is information coming on our golf clubs home golf

course situation. A move to the new Havasu Golf Club is

already in the works. As of now a number of members

have already moved to the new course. A vote should take

place prior a permanent move. A lot of players would like

to make the move as soon as possible so there may be an e

-mail vote coming, watch your e-mails for this. The fall

meeting and luncheon will be held at the Elks lodge this

time. The tournament will be held at whatever golf course

we have voted on. During this meeting we will be holding

the elections for new officers, so anyone wanting to be-

come an officer, there will be signup sheets available

soon. The hole in one fund is still available as of this date

as of 08/08/17 we have $68 in the fund. No one has

scored an ace so far. There will be a new amount of $5 per

person for the next hole in one fund, once we make the

move to the new golf course. We will carry over the fund

if no one makes a hole in one before the move. Be sure to

check the board for upcoming events. All signup sheets

will be located on the club board at the lodge or every

Tuesday at the Golf Course.

VAGABONDS NEWS

Welcome back to the Vagabonds. We are ready to start having

fun again after being dark for three months. Many were traveling

during the summer to escape the heat and some stayed behind to

enjoy the benefits of our wonderful lake. Hopefully all had a

great summer.

We will begin our regular meetings

Wednesday, September 13th at 1:00. Get

there early so you can buy your Queen of

Hearts tickets. It’s time for someone to

win again.

We will start our new season with a cam-

pout in Williams and this will be hosted by Bill and Debbie Hor-

ton. The dates are September 14th through the 16th, although many

of us will leave after the Vagabonds meeting on the 13th. Those

who already have their reservations will be at the Railside RV

Ranch and overflow will be at Canyon Motel and RV Park, which

is very close by. This is a very well attended event and the

Railside RV Park was unable to accommodate our large group

this year.

The October campout will be in Pahrump and those dates are

October 19th through the 22nd at the Lakeside RV Park. Their

phone number is 775-751-7770. Be sure to let them know you

are part of the Vagabonds when you make your reservations as

we will get a 20% discount. They also accept Passport America.

I look forward to seeing everyone at our September meeting.

CLOTHE A CHILD Merry Christmas All

I know it’s only September but Clothe A Child is in full swing. I will be attending club meetings in September looking for donations and volunteers.

The Clothe A Child program is set for December 10th at K-Mart. This is a school clothes shopping spree for children in need, in our community. Each child is selected based on greatest financial need. Last year, we were able to clothe 73 children. This year, we have a goal of sending 100 kids back to school with new clothes. We can do it, but only with the continued support from this incredible lodge. And that is why I am asking you, now, to par-ticipate in Clothe A Child this year and don’t miss out on this heartwarming experience and your chance to help bring a smile to a child’s face and a lot of warmth to your heart.
