Bangalore, INDIA

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is a premier aerospace company under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India with its Corporate office at Bangalore. The company has 20 production divisions and 10 co-located R&D centres spread across the country.

HAL had its origin in 1940 as a private limited company founded by a far-sighted industrialist Seth Walchand Hirachand to manufacture aircraft. Over the past seven decades, HAL has spread its wings to cover various activities in the areas of design, development, manufacture and maintenance of advanced fighters, trainers, helicopters, transport aircraft and associated aero engines, accessories, avionics and airborne systems. HAL has also diversified into manufacture of structures of aerospace vehicles, like polar / Geostationary Satellite launch vehicles, Indian remote sensing and other satellites, industrial and marine gas turbines as well as commercial services at the HAL airport, Bangalore.

THE COMPANY

ROTARY WING RESEARCH & DESIGN CENTRE(RWRDC)The Rotary Wing Research & Design Centre of Helicopter Complex, HAL, with modern facilities and state-of-the-art technologies spearheads HAL's thrust towards excellence in the field of Helicopter design and associated technologies to meet the requirements of military and civil customers. The Centre has successfully designed and developed Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and also upgraded Cheetah and Chetak Helicopters.

DEVELOPMENTDevelopment of LCH was taken up on digital platform using 3D CAD and PDM(Product Data Management) tools. Three prototypes have been built which are presently undergoing development flight trials to validate design objectives.

LIGHT COMBAT HELICOPTERThe Light Combat Helicopter is a twin-engine, dedicated combat helicopter of 5.8-ton c l a s s f e a t u r i n g n a r r o w f u s e l a g e w i t h t a n d e m configuration for Pilot and Co-p i l o t / W e a p o n S y s t e m O p e r a t o r ( W S O ) . I t incorporates a number of stealth features such as reduced visual, aural, radar and infra-red signatures, and crashworthy landing gear for better survivability.

With twin Shakthi engines, LCH features the latest design concepts to improve reliability and survivability against battle damage. LCH has excellent maneuverability and Nap of the Earth (NOE) flying capability. Easy maintainability is another important consideration in design.

LCH is equipped with some of the common systems of ALH such as Integrated Dynamic System (IDS), Rotors, Anti-Resonance Isolation System (ARIS), Integrated Architecture and Display System (IADS), Dual redundant Hydraulics, Basic Electrical and Avionics. The helicopter is fitted with tail wheel type crashworthy landing gear.
