“We would like to respectfully acknowledge the Bundjalung people who are the Traditional Custodians and First Peoples of the Land on which our school stands.”
have been busy this term looking at different types of energy. Students have been assigned the task of designing a ‘water wheel’. The purpose of this task is to create the most efficient design that causes the blades to spin at the fastest rate. Students had a great time designing, constructing and testing their completed projects.
Students have been enjoying their weekly TENS activities during the numeracy session. The Targeted Early Numeracy Program consists of short, focused, frequent numeracy sessions (typically 10-minute blocks). The students participate in a range of strategically targeted activities that focus on developing number strategies.
Uncle Elliot has been delivering his weekly culture lesson
every Thursday. Students have made a class ‘family tree’
and have been learning about stories from the Dreamtime.
The Clever Man - By Ash
Hot and humid waves of warm heat slowly blew against the soft dark skin of a young person called Noki. He was an aboriginal warrier, but he didn’t know the clever peoples ways. He decided to travel beyond his tribal borders to find the legend of the Clever Man.
He was walking through the mint green leaves and the lime green shrubs as he came across a mysterious figure flying through the hot, angry air. It was someone from another tribe with a spear.
He had got his dark, sweaty leg chopped off as a stream of blood ran down onto the rocky, rough ground for he had crossed into other peoples borders. He had to journey on. He limped as he reached a rough, thick, vicious river where the clever fella hid. He felt butterflies in his tummy as a shock of fear flowed around in his body. He had been told stories about this place many times before so he knew this was it. As he entered the foggy cave he heard a mysterious voice, “Who is this?” the Clever Man asked cautiously. “My name is Noki,” he replied. “I come from the Bird Tribe, I mean no harm.” Suddenly a huge boulder slid open and within it, a flash of red, hot fiery flames burnt. “What do you want?” asked a deep, angry voice. It was the Clever Man! “I would like to be trained to know the Clever People ways,” replied Noki. “Your training will start tomorrow,” replied the Clever Man.
After three weeks of training he only had one more test. “You must jump off a mountain and survive,” the Clever Man croaked. “That’s impossible!!!” Noki gasped as the thick, black hairs stood up on his head. “How am I supposed to do that?” he asked. “Magic,” the clever man replied. “Alright,” Noki mumbled as his eyes rolled around in a three-sixty degree circle. Within an instant he had jumped off the tall, crooked mountain. Some people say that they can still hear the scream of Noki around the mountain to this day.

The Dirrangun (Witch) Woman - By Ivy
In the dreaming there was a beautiful woman with long, dark shining hair down to her feet. She had white and red ochre smeared across her body. She was possessed with magic like no one else but she often showed anger that even volcanos couldn’t understand. She was the Dirrangun woman.
Our story starts at the back of the Italo club when the Dirrangun woman was peacefully dreaming until a man with a spear and a boomerang put his feet into the water with his son about 11 years old. The boy yelled “Dad I’m going in!” “I don’t care,” moaned the dad. The boy dived in with no grace at all. SPLASH! The Dirrangun woman gave him a warning by holding him under for just a bit, not for long, but long enough to make them aware of how dangerous she could be.
The boy yelled in a deep scream, “AHHH!!!” He rushed from the water’s edge to safety. To this day the Dirrangun woman has stressed that this land is a sacred place for women and that men should not swim there.

Principal’s Address Harmony and Anti Bullying Day Today we had a lovely day participating in a rotation of activities that were all about learning to live in harmony and recognising and not tolerating bullying. The children wore orange to promote harmony, enjoyed frozen oranges at recess and devoured their “Orange Meal Deals” at lunch time. A big thank you all to our parents who worked in the canteen to organise this.
Easter Hat Parade and Raffle Our Easter Hat Parade is on Thursday, 29 March. The Hat Parade will begin at 12.45pm with the children showing off the wonderful hats they have made. Lunch will follow at the normal time of 1.20pm and parents are all invited to stay and join their children for lunch and the afternoon activities. Our canteen will be open for this day. Parents are able to order lunches with their children if they would like. We will also be holding an Easter Raffle to raise funds towards the swimming program at the end of the year. We are asking for a donation of one Easter Egg from each family to put into the baskets. Ticket books are attached to this newsletter. If you can help raise funds by selling these tickets, we ask that they are returned by the day of the parade 29 March. This year Easter does not fall in the school holidays. The children have Good Friday and Easter Monday off and then return to school for two weeks before the holidays.
The Northern Star My First Year Kindergarten feature is in today’s Northern Star. Don’t forget to get your copy to see all our new Kindy students.
Technology Mrs Mack has been attending a training course both yesterday and today on technology - Everything school teachers need to know to teach the mandatory technology syllabus. This course incorporates a lot of coding and we are looking forward to Mrs Mack coming back and being able to implement a lot of new technology into the classes and school.
NAPLAN Online Due to our success of last year’s trial NAPLAN online, our school has been asked to do our NAPLAN assessment online this year. We will be having a trial run tomorrow with our Year 3 and 5 students. NAPLAN Online uses an adaptive test design, which presents questions that better match student achievement levels and provide more precise results for teachers and schools. Tomorrow’s trial is a readiness test for the actual assessment in May.

PLP Meetings Tomorrow afternoon we are holding our PLP Meetings for all our Aboriginal students and students requiring support in some areas. These are developed by teachers, in consultation with students and parents, to identify, organise and apply personalised approaches to learning. These plans are extremely important for the success of our Aboriginal students and I encourage all parents/carers to attend have a chat and enjoy a sausage sizzle from 3.30pm - 4.30pm. It is a requirement of the department that all Aboriginal students have a Personal Learning Plan.

Ethics classes Ethics classes are available as an option in NSW public primary schools during the scripture timeslot. The ethics curriculum is available for children from Kindergarten through to Year 6. These classes are discussion based, covering a range of age-appropriate topics. Children learn to express their own views as well as to listen carefully to, and consider, the views of others. Ethics classes are delivered by trained volunteers using approved lesson materials. Ethics classes can commence at Albert Park if there is sufficient interest to warrant them. We will only be able to deliver it to one stage at a time. Please return the slip below by Monday, 22 March if you are interested in choosing ethics for your child. If there is enough interest, Ethics will be offered to the Stage with the most amount of responses. For more information on the curriculum and volunteering, please visit primaryethics.com.au
