method for handling 9153 OMC-R alarm messages.This document contains a list of all 9153 OMC-R alarms, and the actionsrequired to remove them.It is not intended to describe all alarms generated by other subsystem such asBTS, MFS, BSC etc. components.

1.1 OverviewThis alarm dictionary provides additional information that is not displayed in thealarm messages sent to the terminals.The dictionary contains alarm definitions for each alarm type produced by the9153 OMC-R:

Critical A serious fault condition which requires immediate corrections. Example: amanaged object goes out of service.

Major A fault condition which requires urgent correction action. Example: severedegradation in the operation of a managed object.

Minor A fault condition which does not affect service but corrective action should betaken to avoid a more serious fault.

Warning Detection of a potential fault condition. Action should be taken to diagnose andcorrect the problem to avoid a more serious fault condition.

Indeterminate The severity level cannot be defined by the resource which raised the alarm.

All alarms always give the date and time of the alarm. An alarm may alsocontain optional information, such as the notification id.

1.2.3 Impact on SystemIt gives a short description of the impact on the system due to the problemindicated by this alarm.

1.2.4 Corrective ActionTo solve the current alarm a graphical workflow chart is used. It shows therequired procedures by checks, tests and actions to determine the fault andfinally to solve the alarm.By clicking on a dedicated action field, a link to the detailed description of thetask will be opened when available.

Alarm Description Due to a wrong configuration or OMC hardware failure or network erroror BSC response time-out, the OMC is not able to communicate withthe BSC equipment. The alarm is raised when the BSC cannot bereached: both links are not usable (in case of BSC redundancy) or linknot usable (if no BSC redundancy).

Alarm Description Due to a wrong configuration or OMC hardware failure or networkerror or BSC response time-out, the OMC is not able to communicatewith the BSC equipment through the first of the two X25 links in caseof BSC redundancy. The BSC and all related BTS equipments aresupervised. The alarm is raised in order to warn the operator that thefirst link is down and must be repaired.

Alarm Description The Programming Mode on Abis is set to "Manual". This parameter iscontrolled from Abis View.

Impact on System In case of "Manual" Programming Mode on Abis, all Abis modificationcommands passed by the operator are transferred to BSC, checked byBSC but stored only in BSC as future, not programmed configuration.Only when the operator triggers the Abis Programming, themodifications will be brought in force.Note that, during the "Manual" mode of Abis Programming any creationor change performed on Abis elements is immediately consideredas effective on the OMC-R although not yet taken into account in theoperational configuration and thus different from the effective Abistransmission.Differences are visible in TCU - RSL mapping shown in BSSUSMMain View and in TRX - RSL mapping shown in USOD. OMC-R data(corresponding to the future configuration) can be overwritten byeffective Abis transmission data through requesting HSDS Synthesis,TCU Load Report or BSC/BSS audits.On resuming the "Automatic" mode of Abis Programming anyinconsistency is cleared due to the included BSC Hardware Audit andBSC Alarm/State Audit that follow the transmission programming.

The following table describes the associated corrective actions for this alarm.

Corrective Actions Full advantage of manual Abis Programming is taken by groupingcommands relative to the same TSU.Avoid modifications that lead to changing the TCU mode between FRand DR. It will lead to the TCU reset and to traffic outage. If suchmodification is necessary, please trigger the Abis Programming eitherby resuming the "Automatic" mode or by forcing the Abis Programming.Always resume the "Automatic" mode of Abis Programming after thelast Abis operation. Only then, the current alarm is cleared.
