Our Year 6 Learning Pathway
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Parent-Teacher Consultation Meetings These will be taking place on Sunday and Monday. Check your child’s communication book for a slip that will confirm your allocated time with your child’s teacher. Remember slots are only 10 minutes long so please be mindful of other parents waiting to be seen.
Please be reminded that the mid-term break will begin at 2.30pm on Thursday 18th October. School will resume at 7.35am on Sunday 27th October.
Important notices: Please make sure your child brings a water bottle and a hat to school every day – especially PE days because, as the weather is getting cooler, we will begin to go outside for PE lessons. Home Learning: The tasks below should be completed by 17th October. Your child should also read every day.

English This week we have been creating our own suspense stories and editing them ready to be published next week.
Spelling and Creative writing: Practise and learn your spellings. (At the end of this letter) Write each word in a sentence. Write a diary entry of your weekend – include images/photos/pictures if you wish. CHALLENGE: Can you get at least one of your spelling words in the diary entry?
Maths This week we have been learning and recapping column addition and subtraction and solving problems using this skill. Next week, we will continue our four operations unit and begin to look at multiplication (4 digits x 2-digits) division using the bus stop method and dividing using factors

Integrated Curriculum
This week we have been doing more research into Sheikh Zayed’s vision and the UAE today. Next week we will be trying to answer our journey question of “Has Sheikh Zayed’s vision been realised?”
Here are some of the key elements of Sheikh’s Zayed’s vision: 1. Uniting the 7 Emirates. What did Sheikh Zayed do to persuade the other emirates to form one nation? 2. To Invest in UAE People: Education for All, Faith and Encouragement in Youth as the future of the UAE - What education opportunities are there for young Emirati in the UAE? 3. ‘Preservation of Nature’ and to ‘Bring Vegetation to the Desert’ - What things are happening in the UAE to preserve nature and bring vegetation to the desert? 4. Co-operation between nations and Global Outreach built on Tolerance and Respect- Which countries does the UAE have good relationships with? What agreements do they have to cooperate together? 5. Space Exploration - What things is the UAE currently doing with regards for space exploration? 6. Modernisation and Urbanisation – Modern Roads and Cities - What new ideas for transport and ways of travelling does the UAE have, or have planned? 7. Increase the role of women- What roles do women have in the UAE government? 8. Preservation of UAE Culture - What places can you visit in the UAE which examples of preserving the UAE culture or heritage of the past? Choose one and write a short paragraph about whether or not you think this has been achieved today and why. Take photos and stick them in your book to back up your argument.
