JESUS' MINISTRY SUMMARIZED The story of the raising of Lazarus from the dead is the single longest story (apart from the Passion) in the Gospel of John. In it we find a summary of most of Jesus' ministry. We see his very human nature as he is moved by Martha and Mary's sorrows and as he himself weeps at the tomb of Lazarus. He is the wisdom of God's Word made flesh as he explains to his followers that the death of Lazarus will serve as a sign of the glory of God. He crowns the miracles he works in John's Gospel (which began with the most "human" miracle of making new wine at Cana's wedding) by raising Lazarus from the dead--a "preview," if you will, of his own death and resurrection to come. This portrait of Jesus reminds us, as we near the end of our Lenten journey, that he is with us, knows us, understands us in every moment of our lives. He knows the joy of our human feasting, he knows the sorrow of our weeping. As we prepare to walk with him through the days of Holy Week, we are filled with faith that--through Christ--God's glory will be with us in every moment of our lives and--with Christ--in our life everlasting. Presented by Youth Ministry

Seven Last Words of Jesus April 7 at 7:00 pm

Presented by the Music Ministry The Seven Last Words of Jesus is a powerful contemplative service that combines music and reflections based on Jesus’ final words from the cross. Come and experience this poignant form of prayer.

TENEBRAE SERVICE On Tuesday, April 11th at 7:00 p.m. our parish community will celebrate Tenebrae. “What is that?” you may wonder. That would be an understandable response since this service is not well known nor is it one of the principal liturgies of Holy Week. Tenebrae, coming from the Latin word for darkness or shadows, is a Holy Week devotion that dates back to the seventh or eighth century. It is characterized by a gradual extinguishing of all lights as the service progresses. The service, which consists of Scripture readings interspersed with incredibly beautiful music, anticipates the celebrations of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. All the various elements work together, in harmony, preparing the participants for the most holy days in our liturgical year. If you have never attended Tenebrae, think about adding this event to your calendar this year. Trust me. You will not be disappointed. “It was the most beautiful, reflective service I’ve ever attended during Holy Week.” A visitor from St. Alexander Parish "“I attended your Tenebrae Service last night and it was wonderful. I found the service to be very meditative and the music outstanding. I just want to thank you for the experience." Pam Barz,, a visitor from Lily Lake

Pilgrims, Palms, Processions On Palm Sunday, April 9th, we will meet outside of our normal place of worship in Marvin Hall to hear about how Jesus entered Jerusalem in triumph. Then we will bless palm branches - branches carried by pilgrims. And like the children of Jerusalem, we will walk and sing in procession. The Gospel of Matthew that we have been hearing ever since the end of November has been moving us toward this journey to Jerusalem, this procession to the supper table, the cross and the tomb.

When we accept the palm branches next week, we promise to live as pilgrims, to move through this life with and to Jesus. Like the Israelites in the desert, we are only passing through. Like Christ himself, we go about carrying good news, even when we walk the way of tears. Come prepared next week to walk and sing together as fellow travelers. We will walk to our holy table- Jerusalem, in our own neighborhood. And this procession will be practice for an even more awesome journey that we will make- the Easter Vigil procession to the tomb- our font- that place where we die to sin and rise in love.

Easter Dinner Food Pantry Sign-Up During Lent we are called to a time of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. A wonderful opportunity for almsgiving comes in the form of providing an Easter dinner for a family served by our Food Pantry. Please sign up at the table in the narthex. The flier contains all the information you need as well as a suggested shopping list. Return the dinner on Saturday, April 8 between 7:30-9:00 a.m. We will have volunteers in the parking lot to assist you. The dinners will be distributed later that morning to our Food Pantry guests. If you have any questions or would like to help with the dinner distribution, please call Kathy McKinley at (630) 483-9027. May God bless you and your families for your continued generosity in feeding the hungry.
