BISHOP TYLKA

KEEPSAKE

July 23 was a special day in the history of the Diocese of Peoria, and the highlights of the episcopal ordination of Coadjutor Bishop Louis Tylka have been beautifully captured in a special keepsake program, “A Moment of Grace.”

The 8.5-by-11, 56-page high quality commemorative includes nearly 40 color photos from the day, the full texts of homilies and other remarks by church leaders, background on Bishop Lou and his family, and more. It is available by sending $12 ($10 per booklet, plus $2 for shipping) to Bishop Tylka Commemorative, c/o The Catholic Post, PO Box 1722, Peoria, Illinois, 61656. Make checks payable to The Catholic Post.

♦Your food pantry has been increasingly busy during these COVID times, and we couldn’t possibly meet the demand without your help. To give you some idea, in July we served 178 families and gave out 320 bags of groceries. Every once in a while we get an overwhelming call for help, as we did on Wednesday, August 12, when we served 92 families and gave out 170 bags of groceries in four hours! ♦If there are one or two people in a family, we give one bag; three or four people get two bags; and families with more than four people get three bags. Our general rule is a client may come once a month.

♦Each bag contains meat, one fruit, one soup, two vegetables, one mac n’ cheese, cereal or crackers, a meal such as pasta & spaghetti sauce, two rolls of toilet paper, and a treat such as peanut butter or cookies. You do the math and you can see it’s not an inexpensive mission, but I assure you it is greatly appreciated. We also offer ‘extras’ if we receive perishable items from our parishioners and/or the regional food bank(s), such as eggs, milk, bread, juices, frozen treats, produce, cheese, etc.

♦We are a non-denominational pantry, serving any Logan County resident who is struggling.

♦The operation currently has 44 volunteers, and we sometimes struggle to meet our staffing needs. Our needs range from a half-hour on a Saturday, helping to unload groceries......45 minutes on a Tuesday or Thursday helping to unload products from a regional food bank.....and/or a two-hour shift one Wednesday a month. We try our best to protect everyone; our volunteers wear masks and clients never leave their car, so we meet the current popular buzzword “touchless”. If you have a couple of hours a month, or even a half hour a month to help, we would be so grateful and I promise it’s a good feeling to know you’ve helped. For more information, call Carolyn Webster at (217) 737-5633.

♦We also welcome your help with cash contributions, non-perishable groceries, cleaning products, and at this time of the year, fresh produce. There are receptacles at all four churches and the pantry is open every Wednesday from 10 am till 2 pm. If you haven’t seen your facility, I invite you to stop by on any given Wednesday and see us in action. We proudly represent you and your generous support.

♦Father Laible adds his appreciation for all volunteers and our generous donors.

†The Freedom of Missing Out: A Retreat for Young Adults . . . presented by Father Michael Rossmann, SJ on October 16-17 at Bellarmine Jesuit Retreat House (Barrington, IL). Many have a "fear of missing out," but actually experience freedom when commitments are made. There is a depth of joy that only occurs when one goes all in. Using the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, Father Michael Rossmann will share how one can go about making commitments and experiencing true freedom. Includes optional time for small-group sharing. Register at jesuitretreat.org.

WAYS TO SUPPORT OUR CARROLL CATHOLIC SCHOOL!!

Amazon Smile

AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon with the same products, prices, and shopping features as Amazon.com. The difference is that when you shop on AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice. Here is the link to support CCS through AmazonSmile: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/37-0843736.

Partners in Education or PIE Fund

The PIE fund concept is simple. Specific school projects or needed essentials are identified, made known, and funded by generous donors. Requests will range from curriculum materials and classroom equipment, to technology hardware and athletic uniforms. You can browse requests and give any amount to the one that inspires you. This allows your influence over your donation and gives you the ability to connect directly with a classroom and the students. The dollar amount required for a project, as well as the amount the funds contributed, will be known and continuously updated. The school will also acknowledge your gift. Visit https://ccspartnersineducation.weebly.com/ for a full list. While the concept is simple, the impact is great! Through your generosity, the students of Carroll Catholic School will continue to have the tools and experiences needed for an excellent education. To contribute to PIE, please make checks payable to Carroll Catholic School and note PIE and the project name on the memo line. Contributions may be dropped off at the school office or mailed to the school at 111 4th Street, Lincoln, IL 62656. Thank you for your support of Carroll Catholic School!

Recycle Printer Cartridges

Families: Did you know we recycle used name-brand toner and inkjet printer cartridges? We’d love to recycle those for you. There is a drop box in the school office. Through our trusted greening partner FundingFactory, we can turn your recyclables into much-needed cash for Carroll Catholic School. Business owners: Will you recycle with us? It’s easy and 100% free. We earn through the value of your used laser cartridges. Our eco-friendly Business Support program is a cinch to implement. Simply put out a few boxes to collect cartridges and pack items up for shipment or drop them off to us. The FundingFactory program is 100% free and provides everything you need from prepaid UPS shipping labels to promotional materials—all available for free by mail or download. It’s a win-win. As a Business Supporter, you’ll have the ability to vastly increase the number of cartridges we recycle and the amount of money we fundraise each year. Visit FundingFactory.com and register your business. Enter our ID# 273616. Questions about the program please contact Jennifer Craig at 217-732-7518.

Pink School Envelope (found in your monthly mailed packet of Sunday contribution envelopes) Gifts made through these pink envelopes help to support the everyday needs of the School. The pink envelopes are included in your monthly packet of church envelopes. Please consider making a monthly contribution.

Scrip Program

Scrip offers families the opportunity to purchase gift cards from hundreds of national and local retailers. Participating retailers give back a percentage of your purchase (most retailers offer 2%-15% rebate) to Carroll Catholic School. Scrip is an incredible fundraising tool for our school. We earn money (and you too!) by purchasing gift cards. The discount in which we get to buy them is split 50/50 between the school and the family. Gift cards are available for local retailers (El Maz, Peggy’s Place, Sorrento’s, Spirited Republic, Stuffed Aria, Top Hat, and VI Nails), stores out of town and even home improvements. All you have to do is purchase gift cards from your favorite retailers from school and then use them in place of cash/credit cards or give as gifts. Most gift cards are on-hand in the office. These cards would make great gifts. Contact the school office for a listing.

Teacher Fund

Great teachers are the heart of a great school. And this is true for Carroll Catholic School. Our ability to provide students with a worthy and lasting education rests on the strength of our faculty. Our teachers help to shape the lives of our students, fuel their growth and development each day, and expand their thinking and capacity to care. The Carroll Catholic School Teacher Fund is an investment in both today and tomorrow. It is a way to recognize and support our teachers today who are doing great things in the classroom. It will also allow the school to possess the financial means to continue to attract the best teachers in the future. Salaries and benefits for our teachers constitute nearly 60% of Carroll School's annual budget. A robust Teacher Fund would enable the school to offset some of this budgetary expense, to ease the increase in annual tuition costs for our families, and to direct financial resources toward other areas of school need. The Teacher Fund will allow for current teachers (and all staff) to be compensated through just and deserved salary increases and bonuses, and it would strengthen the school's ability to offer competitive salaries to new teachers. The students of CCS are entitled to nothing less than the best teacher in every classroom. The Teacher Fund will enable this commitment to excellence to continue. If your child or grandchild has flourished due to the caring and dedicated teachers at CCS, please consider investing in the Teacher Fund; if you are an alum of Carroll School and our respected teachers of the past helped to shape who you are today, consider investing in the Teacher Fund; if you truly value Catholic education in Logan County, please invest in the Teacher Fund.

Don’t forget to share these ideas with grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc.
