In August, The Pride Crew gave tours to our newcomers and helped families to locate classrooms. In September, The Pride Crew assisted with Open House both evenings. They were positioned around the building to help parents and guardians follow their children’s schedules and meet their teachers. The Seventh Grade Neighborhoods hosted different “get-acquainted” activities on the first day of school. Some were part of the Road Crew, while others ran in the race as part of Team NJHS. Ella Montagano won first place in her division.

The History Club recently visited the Pennsylvania Renaissance Fair. Students were transported in time, watching parading royalty and artisans blow glass and make pottery. Entertainment included a joust, a chess match, and a sensational final show!

During Red Ribbon Week students sported their Abington Pride colors.

Mrs. Sarault’s Medical Detectives Class went “inside the Operating Room” with Mrs. Kellie Arnott, an Intraoperative Nurse at Abington Jefferson Hospital.

Students learned about the importance of teamwork, the role of nurses in the operating room, sterile techniques for preparing for surgery, and equipment used daily in the Operating Room.

Students “scrubbed in” and explored the various tools Mrs. Arnott displayed.

Mrs. Mamrol’s class learned about fire prevention, and, as a culminating activity, the students visited The Abington Fire Company. Students had the opportunity to try on the uniforms, sit in the various fire trucks, and ask the firefighters questions.

Our 8th grade students collaborated with peers in a roller coaster design STEMactivity. It involved the application of physics and the engineering process of testing and redesign.

Students in Ms. Ogborn's and Ms. Deni's class visited North Penn VFW in Glenside to celebrate Veterans Day. They took part in a ceremony honoring veterans past and present, greeted the veterans, and thanked them for their service with a card they crafted earlier in the week. Students also dined with the veterans.

The Builders Club visited Abington's Head Start Program. Members read, made leaf wreaths, completed an outside Fall Scavenger Hunt, and played Fall Bingo with the youngsters as they forged new friendships.

Over 140 students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society.

Students were recognized for their exceptional character, grades, and service to our school and Abington community.

Keynote speaker Katie Katro of 6 ABC shared learning about journalism and broadcasting during her years at Abington. Ms. Katro also spoke to the new inductees about their responsibility to use their skills and strengths to best serve their community.

Members of The VIBE and IMAGINE Program (Youth Stars) have been participating in the Educational Data Systems Inc. after-school workshops.

The Youth Stars have opportunities to learn the skills necessary for the future, including how to gain competitive employment, how to use interview tools,how to earn promotions, and so much more!

Rehearsals for Matilda the Musical are in full swing! The cast of seventy-five students has just started learning their music.

Mark your calendars for when the show goes up February 27th - 29th in the AJHS Little Theatre.

Students in the Green Thumbs Club had a delicious time with advisors Mrs. Bocian and Mrs. Rooney at their annual "how to make your own pickles" meeting.

TADA set a membership record this year when over 800 students joined in September. This quarter’s Friday-night activities included Horrorfest, Karaoke Dance, and The Unique Game Show. At the latter, the blue team was victorious!

During American Education Week students and faculty showed their spirit by wearing costumes of their favorite literary character or teacher, wearing college

attire, geographical tee-shirts, Abington colors, and clothing from students’ clubs, activities, and sports teams.

Over 40 students attend the weekly Board Games activity held in Commons C on Tuesdays. They choose which game to play and new members are always welcome.
