    Features

    Te AIR-SA20PK is an S-AIR compatible packaged product that consists o one S-AIRmain unit AIR-SA15i and two S-AIR sub units AIR-SA15R.Connecting the S-AIR main unit (hereafer called Main unit) with the S-AIR sub

    units (hereafer called Sub units) using S-AIR technology, you can use each unit in aremote location.For example, you can install the sub units, one in the study room and the other in thebedroom, and then install the main unit in the living room. You can then listen to themusic rom the main unit located in the living room by controlling the sub units.You can also connect the main unit to an optional AV system (such as a V), and on thisoptional AV system you can enjoy audio, video and photo contents o an iPod which isconnected to the main unit.

    S-AIR (Sony Audio Interactive Radio frequency)Recent times have seen the rapid spread o DVD media, Digital Broadcasting, and

    other high-quality media.o ensure that the subtle nuances o these high-quality media are transmitted withno deterioration, Sony has developed a technology called S-AIR or the radiotransmission o digital audio signals with no compression, and has incorporated thistechnology into the EZW-R10.Tis technology transers digital audio signals with no compression using the 2.4 GHzband range o ISM band (Industrial, Scientific, and Medical band), such as wirelessLANs and Bluetooth applications.

    To use the remoteSlide and remove the batterycompartment lid, and insert the twosupplied R03 (size AAA) batteries,side first, matching the polarities shownbelow.

    Notes on using the remoteWith normal use, the batteries should last or

    about six months.

    Do not mix an old battery with a new one ormix different types o batteries.

    Establishing the S-AIRconnection

    You can easily establish the connection

    by setting the same S-AIR ID or themain unit and the sub units.

    1 Check that the wirelesstransceivers are inserted

    securely to the main unit and

    the sub units (page 19).

    2 Turn on the main unit and the

    sub units.

    4 Confirm the connection status.Once the connection betweenthe main unit and the sub units isestablished, the S-AIR indicators onthe sub units light up and LINKEDappears in the displays o the sub

    units or about 2 seconds.

    TipUp to 10 sub units (sold separately) can beconnected with the main unit.

    Identifying the main unit witha specific sub unit (Pairing

    operation)It is easy to set the same S-AIR ID or themain unit and the sub units to establishthe connection.However, i a neighbor has an S-AIRmain unit with the same S-AIR ID asyour S-AIR main unit, you may be ableto hear the audio transmitted rom yourneighbors S-AIR main unit on your

    system. o prevent this, you can identiythe main unit with a specific sub unit byperorming the pairing operation.

    1 Place the sub unit to be pairednear the main unit.Pair the main unit with the sub unitsone at a time.

    2 Check that the power of themain unit and the sub unit are

    turned on.

    3 Check that the S-AIR ID of themain unit is the same as the S-

    AIR ID of the sub unit.

    4 Press the PAIRING buttons on

    the rear panel of the main unitand the sub unit using a pointed

    object.When pairing is perormed, thedisplays on both the main unit andthe sub unit change as ollows:PAIRINGCOMPLEE

    To cancel pairing

    Change the S-AIR IDs o the main unitand the sub unit to different S-AIR IDs.

    To stop the pairing operation midwayPress the PAIRING button again.

    To pair the main unit with multiplesub unitsRepeat steps 1 through 4.

    If the S-AIR connection isunstable

    Since the S-AIR product uses radio wavesthat share the same requency (2.4 GHz)as other wireless systems, such as wireless

    LAN or Bluetooth devices, intererenceor poor transmission may result i youuse other wireless systems near the mainunit and/or the sub units.In this case, the connection may beimproved by changing the RF CHANGE(Radio Frequency Change) setting on themain unit.

    1 Press SYSTEM MENU on the unit.

    2 Press TUNING/SELECT +/onthe unit repeatedly until RF

    CHG appears, then press ENTER

    on the unit.

    3 Press TUNING/SELECT +/onthe unit repeatedly to select the

    desired setting.Te deault setting is underlined.

    AUTO:Normally select this setting. Te mainunit changes the RF CHANGE settingto ON or OFF automatically.

    ON:Te main unit transmits sound bysearching or the best channel or

    transmission.

    OFF:Te main unit transmits sound usinga fixed channel or transmission.When you select this setting, selectthe S-AIR ID that provides the bestconnection.

    4 Press ENTER on the unit to exitthe system menu. Setting the clock of the

    sub units

    Use buttons on the unit to set the clock.

    1 Press /to turn on the unit.

    2 Select the clock set mode.Press CLOCK/IMER MENU. I thecurrent mode appears on the display,press/repeatedly to selectCLOCK, and then press CLOCK/IMER ENER.

    3 Set the time.Press/repeatedly to set thehour, and then press CLOCK/IMERENER. Use the same procedure toset the minute.

    NoteTe clock settings are canceled when youdisconnect the power cord or i a power ailureoccurs.

    Selecting the S-AIR mode

    When connecting to multiple sub units, you can listen to different sound sources oneach sub unit (MULI SOURCE mode) or to the same sound source on both sub units(PARY mode) by selecting the S-AIR mode accordingly.Use the main unit to set the S-AIR mode.

    To select the S-AIR mode from thesystem menu

    1 Press SYSTEM MENU on the unit.

    2 Press TUNING/SELECT +/on theunit repeatedly until MODE appears,

    then press ENTER on the unit.

    3 Press TUNING/SELECT +/on theunit repeatedly to select MULTI or

    PARTY, then press ENTER on the

    unit.Te selected S-AIR mode appears onthe display.

    To check the S-AIR mode when thedisplay of the main unit is turned offPress DISPLAY on the remote.

    NotesWhen you change the S-AIR mode, the iPod

    channel is automatically selected or theconnected sub units.

    When connecting the main unit to an S-AIRsub unit (such as the AIR-SA10) which is notcompatible with the MULI SOURCE mode,set the main unit to the PARY mode. Youcan then select the S-AIR channel rom theS-AIR sub unit.

    Listening to iPodmusic using the S-AIRconnection

    Use the sub units to listen to the music oan iPod connected to the main unit.You can control the connected iPod romeither the main unit or the sub units.

    o use an iPod, reer to the users guideo your iPod.

    Using the main unit

    1 Place an iPod on the iPodconnector as shown below.

    Now, you are ready to listen to theconnected iPod using the sub units.

    2 Select the iPod channel.

    When the S-AIR mode is set toPARTY:

    Press PARY CH on the remoterepeatedly until iPod appears in thedisplay.

    When the S-AIR mode is set toMULTI SOURCE:Te iPod channel is internallyactivated. Go to step 3.

    To use the main unit as a batterychargerYou can use the main unit as a batterycharger or the iPod when the main unitis on.Te charging begins when the iPod

    is placed on the iPod connector. Techarging status appears in the iPoddisplay. For details, reer to the usersguide o your iPod.o stop charging the iPod, remove theiPod or turn off the main unit.

    Notes

    When placing or removing the iPod, handlethe iPod in the same angle as that o theiPod connector on the main unit and do not

    twist or sway the iPod to prevent connectordamage.

    Do not carry the main unit with an iPodset on the connector. Doing so may cause amalunction.

    When placing or removing the iPod, bracethe main unit with one hand and take carenot to press the controls o the iPod bymistake.

    Beore disconnecting the iPod, pauseplayback.

    You cannot adjust the volume using the mainunit.

    Te volume level does not change even iadjusted on the iPod.

    Te main unit is designed or iPod only. Youcannot connect any other portable audioplayers.

    Depending on the iPod model you are usingand its status, operations using the main unitand the sub units may not be accepted or the

    wrong operations may be perormed.Sony cannot accept responsibility in the

    event that data recorded to iPod is lost ordamaged when using an iPod with this S-AIRproduct.

    Listening to theradio using the S-AIRconnection

    Using the main unit

    1 Select the tuner channel.

    When the S-AIR mode is set toPARTY:Press PARY CH on the remoterepeatedly until FM or AM

    Using the Timers

    Te sub units offer two timer unctions.I you use the Daily imer with the Sleepimer, the Sleep imer has priority.

    Sleep Timer:You can all asleep to music. Tisunction works even i the clock is notset.Press SLEEP repeatedly.

    NoteEven i you set the timer, no sound is output

    Turning off the remotecontrol function of thesub units

    When using the multiple sub units neareach other, all the sub units may receivethe same signal rom the remote and themain unit may not unction properly. oprevent this, you can turn off the remotecontrol unction o the sub units.Use buttons on the sub unit whoseremote control unction you want toturn off.

    1 Press to turn off the unit.

    Troubleshooting

    1 Make sure the power supplycord and the power cord are

    correctly and firmly connected.

    2 Find your problem in thechecklist below, and take the

    indicated corrective action.

    I the issue persists, contact your

    nearest Sony dealer.When bringing the product in orrepairs, be sure to bring in the entiresystem (the main unit, the sub unitsand wireless transceivers).Tis product is a system product,and the entire system is needed todetermine the location requiringrepair.

    If PROTECT appears on the display ofthe main unitSet the POWER switch on the rear panelto OFF to turn off the unit, and thenunplug the power supply cord. Aferchecking that there is no indication onthe display, reconnect the power supplycord and set the POWER switch to ONto turn on the unit. I the issue persists,

    contact your nearest Sony dealer.

    If the STANDBY indicator on the subunit flashesImmediately unplug the power cord,and check i anything is blocking the

    ventilation holes on the rear panel o theunit.Afer the SANDBY indicator stops

    The remote does not function.

    Remove any obstacles between theremote and the remote sensor, andposition the main unit and the sub
