Mr H’s fantastic after
school club!
By Oliver W and Louis P.
On Mondays after school, Mr H does a
fitness club. Henry H, Oliver, Louis,
Spencer, Edward, Jenson, Macey, Bronagh
and Daisy go to the sports club.
We do exercises like: sit ups; push ups;
jumping jacks; commando crawl; boxing;
blueberry bounce; step ups; focus pads;
skipping and bunny hops. We also do
games like: dodge ball; curling and bench
ball.
Spencer said, “It is good for fitness and it
is fun because we do really good games
like dodgeball.”

By Laila and Jess-Marg
When some of the year 4s and year 5s went to a
dodge ball comp on the 19th of September, we
went to the Hambleton Leisure Centre in
Northallerton, inside of the sports hall.
Esther said, “It was great fun and I loved it!” She
had a great time.
Dodge ball is all about dodging a sponge ball, the
team with all their players out, loses.
Lily-D said, “It was quite a challenge but we
powered through it.” Unfortunately, some
people made rumours that we cheated. But we
still had a great time and just ignored that. 😊
Lily-B said, “The dodge ball team came third
3
place, but we weren’t sad, we were happy that
we took part!”
We came to the Northallerton Leisure Centre, in
a Romanby mini bus! We enjoyed Dodge Ball, as
we all worked together. We came 3rd place out of
four teams, the team that came 4th place got a
taking part medal, as it wouldn’t be fair if they
didn’t get one. We interviewed Thomas and
Roxy, we asked them, did they enjoy it and why?
Thomas said, “Yes, because I did some serious
Dodging!”
Roxy replied and said, “YES! Because Laila helped
me to throw the at people to get people out!”
The rules were:
• The balls were placed in the middle of the
court
• The schools threw the balls at each other
• If a ball hit you then you were out and had
to sit on the side
• When the time finishes the team with the
most players left wins
The school teams there, were:
Appleton-wisk, Great-Smeaton, Sacred-Heart,
South-Otterington, Ainderby Steeple.
Fabulous photos
By Lily D and Owen
On Monday 23/9/19 Richard, from
Impressions, took fabulous photos of
everyone including the teachers. He even
took pictures of siblings and the little ones
with their buddies.
Every year Richard takes photos of
everyone in school - and we mean everyone
- even the pre-schoolers and the adults in
our school. Charlie stated, “It was really
funny because he made all of us laugh.”
Laila exclaimed, “Richard is really funny,
and everyone was really happy and smiley
because of his talent.” Jess Mil excitedly
said, “It was amazing!”
We are all grateful for Richard and are
extremely happy that he comes every year.
We are excited for him next year.
Fantastic Friday
Football By Ayken, Kaiden and Luke James’ football club had been on for 10 weeks it started on the 2.10.19. When he started to do P.E. lessons everyone was excited and we all learned a bit of football.
Out on the playground, (the field if the weather
was good enough) we played football under the
supervision of James Lofthouse who is the
teacher of the football club in Northallerton.
Many year sixes, fives, fours, threes and twos all
joined in the fun and nearly everyone thought it
was fun.
Thanks to him being a great football player
already. This football club was designed to make
people happy and teach them new cool skills! 😊
Spencer said “I liked it.” Louis said, “It was
awesome.” Thanks to the matches against his
4
friends! Phillip said, “It was absolutely fantastic.”
Lee-Anne said, “I thought that it was a very good
way to teach people football.” Cherrie said, “It
was fantastic football,” hence the name, and Jess
Mar. said, “We all got fit thanks to the sport and
we got fit and were active.”
Cool Cross-Country
by Henry
and Mhairi and m
On the 9th of
October, year 3
upwards took
part in the Northallerton Schools Cross Country.
This took part behind Northallerton Leisure
Centre and started in the morning. We set off at
around half past nine and got there at about
twenty to ten. The schools that we were against
were Great Smeaton, Appleton Wiske, Kirkby
Fleetham, South Otterington and Sacred Heart
Everyone did extremely well, especially as we
were in very cold and muddy conditions. The first
race was year 3 girls, we interviewed Charlotte T,
a girl who is in this year, she said, “I really enjoyed
the cross country and crossing the finish line with
my best friend made it even better.”
All the races went on for about an hour all
together and I have to say our students did
amazingly well. In the end Henry T, Izzy T,
Charlotte E, Mhairi, Phillip and Jenson made it
through to the next round. They did amazingly
well. Isabelle T and Mhairi even made it through
to Dalby forest.
Fantastic film club!
By Freya and Lily-mae
On the 11th
of October
2019. We
saw
Aladdin on
the magic carpet, he was not scared at
all he was brave. He saw a girl in
trouble and he tried to help her and
then they quickly ran away. They went
on the magic carpet, (it was very funny
to watch). He had a cheeky little
monkey called Abo, he got up to lots of
mischief. Aladdin really wanted to
marry Jasmine but her dad would not
let her because he said she could only
marry a prince. But Jasmine was a
princess, but she liked him too. He
asked the Genie if he could use his
wish to turn into a prince to marry her
so he rubbed the magic bottle…then
the Genie popped out of the bottle in
laughter. Aladdin asked the Genie if he
could be a prince to marry her. The
Genie replied back, “Ok your wish is
granted!” Then he was a prince! He
was very happy, he loved his outfit.
Then Jasmine was amazed how his
outfit was good, then she married
Aladdin. They went to the town and
there was a giant elephant and
Aladdin was sitting on the jumbo
elephant.
Please come to our next film club, it is
great, you get lots of snacks and
drinks (like chocolates, crisps and
fruit shoots and lots more exciting
5
things). “It was very awesome to
watch!” exclaimed Freya.
Cool Coffee Morning
by Cherrie, Henry H
On the 19th of October
2019, FASS did a coffee
morning at the town hall
in Northallerton.
At the coffee morning there were many
activities to do, such as:
A Tombola, a cake stall, bric-a-brac and
face painting;
There were also bacon butties and
refreshments at the event.
We have interviewed someone that went
to the coffee morning:
Aeryn said, “I was sat at a glitter tattoo
and tombola stall, it was very fun and I
really enjoyed it!
By Lee-Anne and Olivia
There was an
all-girls football
competition on
the 14th of October. Some people
who took part said it was
entertaining. Jess Marg quoted,
“Everyone worked together well,
and I was really happy!” In every
game there was a different team, all
together we took 9 people. There
were 4 teams and every team won a
medal. Our school won third place!
These were the schools who went:
• Great Smeaton
• South Otterington
• Ainderby-Steeple
• Secret heart
By Lee-Anne, Laila and Olivia.
When the Bookfair came to school everyone got
excited. We all had seen the books, there were
books for everyone such as: dinosaur slime, fairy
ones and lots more.
Kaiden quoted, “The books were amazing and
they filled my imagination!”
Lottie exclaimed, “They were super good.”
“They were very good and affordable!” said Lily.
D excitedly.
The bookfair went down a treat and we raised:
£174.12 for school! I know right?!
By Phillip and Charlie
At the harvest service, we sang songs,
prayed to God and at the end we raised
money for the church. Every class sang a
song but the year sixes also said a few
words on why we have the harvest
service and why we celebrate it. We also
did a play [which was called Stone Soup]
that was led by Phillip, Mhairi and Freya.
Lily said, “It was great because we could
sing.”
6
Mhari said, “It was really fun and the
songs were great.”
Cherrie said, “I enjoyed listening to the
other classes sing their songs.”
Tremendous Tag
Rugby
By Henry H and Cherrie
On the 12th of November 2019, a group of
yr5-6 children went to the AstroTurf at
Northallerton Leisure Centre to compete
in a small school competition. They played
against many schools such as: Appleton
Wiske, South Otterington, Great Smeaton
etc. The children played amazingly from
start to end with no fuss at all!
Unfortunately, another school cheated
and got disqualified but that didn’t stop
these eager sportsmen!
We have interviewed a few people that
went to the competition for a Q and A:
Q: “Spencer, what was your favourite
position in the games?”
A: Spencer, “I liked the left wing the best
because I loved running and scoring a try.”
Q: “So Freya, what was your favourite part
of the tag rugby competition?”
A: Freya, “Probably playing all the games
and enjoying it all with my friends!”
Q: “Oliver did you enjoy the tag rugby?”
A: Oliver, “Yes, I enjoyed tag rugby
because I was in defence and my team
said I was good at it.”
Children in need, PJ day!
By Jess mil and Lily B
We had a Children in Need pyjama day on
the 15.11.19. Everyone had a marvellous
time in their PJs and bringing their teddys.
We think it was an amazing thing and it
should happen again.
The school raised £110.90 for Children in
Need. Here are quotes from people who
were there:
Freya said, “It felt good that we were in
pyjamas!”
Owen said, “My onesie was cosy.”
If you are interested in more events like this
ask a member of the school council.
By Lee-Anne and Olivia
At film club you
watch a film and one
week we watched Secret Life of Pets
2. We watched it on the 15th of
November. Everyone said that it was
so funny and entertaining. Nearly
everyone in our school went to go
and see this incredible film. Cherrie’s
favourite character was Snowball.
Charlie quoted, “It was really good
7
and I enjoyed every part of it.” Phillip
exclaimed, “It was absolutely
INCREDIBLE!” Aeryn said, “It was
very good and extremely relaxing!”
Jess Marg laughed, “It was brilliant,
that’s how good it was!” Lee-Anne
yelled that her favourite part was the
sausage part.
They provided snacks for us, such
as...
Crisps, fruit shoots, and a chocolate
biscuit choice.
If you haven’t watched it yet, I recommend watching it!
Great Gymnastics By Lottie and Esther
Every Monday afternoon Mr Hodgson
comes and does gymnastics practice with
some children to get ready for the
interschool competition.
Here are some quotes. Lee-Anne said,
“It’s really fun and we get to learn
something new every time like splits and
round off.” Mhari said, “I`m really looking
forward to the competition.” Charlotte
said, “It’s great fun, you get to miss
lessons and it is good exercise for
everyone.” Laila said, “Everyone is really
good at gym and we always end up having
a laugh.” 😉😊
The exercises they do are fun. They are
exercises like running, high knees and heal
flicks. 😊😉
So far, we`ve learnt floor exercises and
body management! Next we will learn
vault and full lever!😊😉
Everyone is really excited for the
competition, we are going to try our
hardest to win. Anyway, we have a good
coach and a great team and we are really
good at encouraging each other and we all
work really well together and we know
what to do.
FABULOUS FASS BINGO
By Jess Mil and Lily B
The parents enjoyed the bingo on Friday
the 22/11/19. The amazing FASS were
kind enough to give us a bingo evening!
The parents really appreciated it, as did
the children. The bingo was extremely fun
and some of the teachers took part as
well. People enjoyed winning and chatting
to each other.
Everybody enjoyed the bingo.
Did you like it?
Terrific
Tesco
By Owen and Lily D
On the 22/11/19 two ladies from
Tesco came and presented us with
a huge cheque.
Tesco is amazing for raising money
for our school. They did this by
selling second hand books in their
store. They surprised us whilst we
8
were doing maths and took a picture
of us with the cheque. We were so
impressed by how much money was
raised specifically £556.10
We all are very grateful to Tesco for
the money raised by them. If you
want to know if you helped did you
donate any books? if you did, you
helped our school.
Christmas Fairies!
By lily-
Mae and
Freya
😊😉
The magical Christmas fairies, came to our
school and put up all the decorations we
made. It was really good. Our hall looked
amazing, everyone loved it. We made lots
of things like…
Class 3 they made a photo frame which
had their picture in it and we saw it on
the sides of the hall and they also made
one of the glittery Christmas decorations
like snowman, Christmas trees and bells.
Class 2 made baubles with penguins on
them some were silver some were gold
and they made some Christmas trees and
some stockings and they were made out
of fabric. Class 1 made baubles with spots
on them.
Phillip said, “The Christmas fairies did lots
of work putting up all the decorations on
Friday 29th of November 2019.” Lily
Brown said, “They made the hall look
pretty!” Freya said, “It looks fantastic in
our hall. Every year at Christmas it feels
great to have them up!” Lily-Mae said,
“Every Christmas we like the Christmas
fairies to come to our school because they
make it look pretty.” 😊
We hope you got to see how fantastic it
looks with all our Christmas decorations
that we have made with all our teachers.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW
YEAR! 😊😉
By Aeryn and Spencer
We went to visit the residents at
Abbeyfields in Northallerton. First, when
everybody got there we walked into the
room, we got all the decorations out and
hung them on the tree. After that, we got
in our places then we sang ‘This
Christmas-time’, ‘Every Christmas’, ‘Unto
Us a Child is Born’ and lots of carols.
Cherrie said, “It was amazing! We got to
decorate the Christmas tree and sang
some lovely carols! It was very generous
of them to give us food and treats after!”
The food was great, there were sweets,
pizza, crisps, sausage rolls, cake, drinks
(like blackcurrant juice, orange juice and
water) and the sweets were good there
were fudges, Snickers and Milky Ways.

Henry T said, “It was good fun and the
food was nice.”
All the old people enjoyed us being
there and they want us to come again
next year.
The Selfish Giant By Thomas, Oscar and Roxy
On Thursday 5th December the Riding Lights
Theatre Company came to school to perform a
play called ‘The Selfish Giant.’ Riding Lights
Theatre Company set up their stage and props
in our main hall. The performance was about a
giant who wouldn’t let any children in his
garden [ he was a very grumpy giant]. The giant
was called Smog and he built a wall around his
garden to keep everybody out. There were lots
of games for us to all join in with, we all really
enjoyed joining in with the games and the
songs, we all laughed a lot.
We went and asked some of the children in
class 1, ‘What was your favourite part of the
show?’ Rose and Iza-bella G. said, ‘When the
man played the guitar and we all sang a song
called Imagine it.’
We also asked class 1 ‘What was your favourite
game in the show?’ Daisy A said her favourite
game was The flower game and Benjamin said
the limbo game was his favourite game.
I think the whole school will agree it was a hit
and we will be looking forward to seeing what
they have in store for us next year. Thank you
to FASS for paying for this for us.
Mrs Walker, Mrs Peacock and Mrs
Jefferies helped with the amazing baking
that the children did. We raised £329.50
on the big day (7.12.19) That is a large
amount!
Lilly-Mae said she had a lot of fun
whipping up the mixture.
Henry T also quoted that he thought
Kiaran (his little one) really enjoyed
decorating the cakes and the biscuits.
Mhairi was very annoyed that she had got
20 tickets and unfortunately did not win a
thing on the tombola!
There were lots of good prizes to be won
such as the hamster and prizes including
sweets, prosecco and smelly delights. The
most popular thing there was,the cakes
made by us (Ainderby Steeple School)
cupcakes, shortbread and lots more. Over
all it was great.
Ding Dong Dress
Rehearsal
by Mhairi and Henry T
Class 1 and 2 did their ABC Nativity dress
rehearsal on the 9th of December. They did
10
extremely well as half the class were missing –
well done to Ava T for learning all of Mary’s lines
in half an hour! The play that reception, year
one, two and three produced was amazing and
there was a good turn out on the big night. This
went on for around half an hour with a raffle at
the end, which Scarlett Allick’s family won. Here
are some quotes from our nativity watchers.
Charlie H said, “I thought it was very exciting.”
Freya said, “I loved watching the play and
listening to all the different songs.”
And Esther said, “It was an excellent
performance and funny!”
Class 3 really enjoyed the dress rehearsal and
thank you for your donations for the raffle and if
you did not watch then feel free to buy one of
our DVD’s as every child was on the DVD since
no one was ill that day!
azzling iscoBy Izzy T and Charlotte E
At Ainderby Steeple School the Christmas
disco took place on the 9.12.19. The disco
was led by Silly Steve, the laugh of the
school, it was a party all evening!
With Silly Steve these people won prizes:
Luke, Henry S, Lottie, James, Cherrie,
Benjamin, Henry T, Anya, Lilly-Mae S,
Freya, Erica, Roxy, Olivia and Oliver (who
was very kind and gave his prize to
William). These people won prizes like
sweets and a balloon hat, Henry S won that
balloon hat and popped it two times!
When we were all tired we came into class
3 and we ate a selection of crisps, sweets
and juice. Everybody said the sweets were
the best out of the choice of food.
All of the party games were the best bits
in the disco. There were musical bumps,
hokey pokey, follow-the-leader, pass-the-
parcel and a girls vs boys dance off.
Spencer said, “My favourite game was girl
vs boy dance off because it was a draw.”
Mhairi said,” It was really fun and the
lights were pretty.” Olivia said, “You got to
party with your friends and it was very
entertaining.”
Chilling Christmas Play
By Ayken and Kaiden.
On the 11th of December 2019, class 1
and 2 did a play called the ABC Nativity
Class one and two out-did themselves
with their cool, cute Christmas play. It
was brilliant and the dancing at the end
was so cool.
In our school, we had a Christmas play
being class 1 and 2s performance. Every
year, sometime in December we have a
Christmas play - usually one per class.
However this year, only class 1 and 2 did
Christmas plays and class 3 is planning to
do a summer production. Lily-may said,
“It was very fantastic and fun to watch,
they did a lot of practicing and it all
clearly paid off at the performance.”
The play was AMAZING class 1 and 2
worked really hard on it. Mrs
Montgomery and Mrs Link are very
11
proud of the students. We hope
you pre-ordered the video of their
performance so you can embarrass
them when they’re a teenager!😊
By Philip and Charlie
On the 18.12.19, we ate a special meal
which was to celebrate the coming of
Christmas (Jesus’s birthday). We ate lots
of delicious food such as, turkey, stuffing,
chicken, brussels sprouts, turnips and
gravy. For dessert we had a chocolate
Christmas tree filled with ice-cream.
When we opened the crackers, we got lots
of things such as: hats, jokes, eye patches,
pencil sharpeners, pens and tweezers.
Owen said, “The sprouts were fantastic”.
Jess Marg said she loved the Christmas
dinner especially the sprouts.
Henry said, “It was delicious.”
Lottie said, “It was amazing.”
Fantastic Christmas party
By Oliver W & Louis P
At our party we did games like: pass
the parcel; sleeping lions; chocolate

Henry T said, “It was awesome and he
wishes that he can do it next year.”
Crazy Carol Service
By Izzy T and Charlotte E
In the school hall a fantastic carol service
took place on Friday the 20.12.19. It was
amazing! The year 4s and 5s, performed
the tableau with great readings by year 5
and 6.
Lots of people said they were very
nervous about singing and reading but the
crowd were clapping. Aeryn said, “I was
nervous about the talking and the reading
but my mum said I was great.” Then Henry
12
T quoted that it was really fun but the
singing was very tiring.
All of the children said that they were very
excited - not only that they got to show off
their singing voices to their parents but
that it was the end of the term at school
and it was finally Christmas!
It was a very fun afternoon for the last day
of term!
