success of films such as Transformers and Harry Potter suggests.

• Billion-dollar revenue figures aren’t all that uncommon today in cinema, placing many major movies alongside companies such as Facebook when it comes to revenue.

• With so much riding on a film’s success, marketing one is a massive opportunity for creative designers.

• One of the tools of marketing is movie posters.• Movie posters are one part of a marketing package

meant to entice you into seeing the movie

Elements of Movie Posters

• Attention – jump out from the wall.

• Grabbing the attention of passers-by and encouraging them to look.

Iconography – showing without telling

• The most effective movie posters are iconic, presenting the themes in the film without resorting to flat out saying what it’s about.

Interest – create an incentive to see the film• Using an image

that provides viewers with an idea of the story is a great idea.

Appeal – create desire with fans and non-fans alike.

O With studios creating movies based on comic books, you want to attract both fans and non-fans

Style – a look that’s consistent with the film

O Poster matches the style of the movie

Recognizability – if it’s a sequel, make it obvious

going to create 5 movie posters The movie posters can be movies that have

been made or you can be creative and create your own movie titles and posters

Each movie poster must contain at least 5 layers Each poster needs the following: The title of the movie The names of the stars of the movie Pictures depicting the movie * Bonus credit will be given if you incorporate

your own likeness into the poster
