BALASORE (Odisha) Dec 10: India successfully test-fired nuclear-capable ballistic missile Agni-5, which has a strike range of 5,000 km, from Dr Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast Monday. This is the seventh trial of the indigenously-developed sur- face-to-surface missile, defence sources said. Agni-V is a three stage mis- sile, 17 metres tall, two metres wide and capable of carrying 1.5 tonne of nuclear warheads. "The missile was launched with the help of a mobile launcher from launch pad-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Dr Abdul Kalam Island in the Bay of Bengal on Monday after- noon," said a defence source. "It was an user associated trial and strategic force com- mand with DRDO scientist con- ducted it," they said. The missile has been designed to hit the designated target point accurately, guided by the on-board computer with the support of a Ring Laser Gyro-based Inertial Navigation System, the Micro Inertial Navigation System, fully-digital control system and advanced compact avionics, as per DRDO officials. The first two flights of Agni- 5 in 2012 and 2013 were in open configuration. The third, fourth and fifth launches were from canister integrated with a mobile launch- er, in its deliverable configura- tion to enable launch of the mis- sile with a very short prepara- tion time as compared to an open launch. The sixth trial was in June during which the missile was fired from a mobile launcher. Several new technologies were successfully tested during the sixth trial. The Agni-5 also has advan- tages of higher reliability, longer shelf life, less mainte- nance and enhanced mobility, according to sources.(PTI) TUESDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2018 (PAGE 12) DAILY EXCELSIOR, JAMMU invites applications from graduates/ post graduates (male and female), waiting for regular employment, to work on research projects in Jammu for a period of 3 months. Nearly 3,500 Common Service Centres (CSCs) -- a net- work that is a part of the Government's rural outreach programme for delivery of digi- tal services -- have been roped in for registration and verifica- tion of Ayushman Bharat bene- ficiaries, the official added. The ambitious healthcare programme of the NDA Government - Ayushman Bharat - was launched in J&K recently with a target of covering over 31 lakh poor and vulnerable fami- lies in all 22 districts. When contacted, CSC CEO, Dinesh Tyagi said that so far around six lakh beneficiaries have been enrolled by CSCs, of which over 2.5 lakh applications have been cleared (by the state authorities). Maximum registrations have been reported from districts like Anantnag, Baramulla, Badgam, Pulwama, Kulgam, and Ganderbal. Tyagi said that apart from registration of beneficiaries, CSCs are carrying out publicity and advocacy work for the uni- versal health programme, mobilising people to get regis- tered, and getting necessary documentation done for regis- tration of beneficiaries. "Due to this, there has been major rush for registration under Ayushman Bharat scheme. CSCs have become a single window service provider for Ayushman Bharat in J&K... In many cases, CSC workers are even visiting homes of sick and feeble people to get their regis- trations done," he said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in September, launched the Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana, which aims to provide a cover- age of Rs 5 lakh per family annually, benefiting more than 10.74 crore poor families for secondary and tertiary care hos- pitalisation through a network of empanelled health care providers. CSCs, said Tyagi, have become major platform for reg- istrations under Ayushman Bharat schemes across India. So far, 20 lakh pan-India registra- tions in 13 states have been facilitated by CSCs. Top regis- trations have been reported from Jharkhand, J&K, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. (PTI) VVIP chopper case: Delhi Court grants further 5-day remand of Christian Michel NEW DELHI, Dec 10: Christian Michel James, alleged middleman chargesheet- ed and arrested in the graft- tainted Agusta Westland VVIP chopper deal, was allowed by a Delhi court today to be interro- gated further by the CBI in its custody for five more days. 57-year-old Michel was pro- duced before Special Judge Arvind Kumar on the expiry of his five-day CBI remand during which he was confronted with various documents relating to the case. He will be produced again before the court on December 15. Seeking extension of Michel's police custody by nine days, the agency contended that he was "not cooperating" in the investigation and was giving "evasive" answers and when he finds himself in problem, he gets out of it by denying it. It contended that Michel was required to be confronted with some witnesses to unearth the deep rooted conspiracy and to identify his accomplices includ- ing the IAF officials, bureau- crats and politicians. Prosecutor D P Singh, appearing for CBI, argued that Michel was being "tutored" by his advocates during their visita- tions at the agency's office and the court's order allowing the lawyers to meet the accused twice a day was hampering their interrogation. His counsel denied the alle- gation and said he was not being tutored. Advocate Aljo K Joseph, appearing for Michel, said his police custody was not required any further and no incriminating evidence was shown to him dur- ing the interrogation. When the defence counsel alleged that Michel was being "tortured", CBI prosecutor objected to the choice of the word and said the advocate was saying this only to create head- lines in the media, and the accused was treated with "utmost respect". Joseph said he sent a mail to the British High Commission on Saturday regarding an officer of the agency. He added that nothing wrong has been found on the part of the accused by the Italian court, which was opposed by the prosecutor. The prosecutor contended that Michel's custody was required as he has to be con- fronted with incriminating material and other accused in the case. Singh said documents have been received from five coun- tries pursuant to the Letter of Request sent to these nations. The judge, while remanding Michel to five-day in CBI cus- tody, said he should be medical- ly examined as per rules. At the outset, Michel with- drew his earlier bail plea and filed fresh detailed bail applica- tion which would be heard later. Michel, who is a citizen of the United Kingdom, was brought to India on the night of December 4, following his extradition by the UAE in con- nection with the case and the next day, he was produced before the court which had allowed his five-day custodial interrogation by the CBI. On Monday, CBI also sought permission to take speci- men signatures of the accused and the court listed it for hearing tomorrow after Michel's counsel said he would file a reply to it. Michel's counsel submitted that Michel's special power of attorney Santrolli Rosemary Patrizi Dos Anjos wants to meet her once to provide some docu- ments and she be allowed to do so. The plea was opposed by the CBI after which the court kept the application pending saying it could be heard only when she is present before it and even her 'vakalatnama' was not on record. CBI prosecutor said the for- eign lawyer was always in news for her controversial statements given to Press and otherwise.(PTI) Agni-5 missile test fired
