STRATEGIC PLAN 2018 - 2023It is with pleasure that we enclose our Strategic Plan, which has been developed and inplace over the last few years but endured a few changes given recent events within theClub and the golfing industry. The management team and committee have therefore concentrated on a three-yearplanning period and the circumstances likely to be within our control over that period.Having said that we will remain agile and alert to changing conditions and opportunities, which may arise during this period. Our overriding emphasis has been and will be to foster a club atmosphere which offers alifestyle for family, friends and the sports enthusiast, so that all members enjoy and valuetheir membership. This of course is the joint responsibility of not only the managementand committee, but all of us and requires the commitment and goodwill from all. We are all aware of the pervading operating environment for golf clubs and the financialpressures which a number of golf clubs are experiencing. We are confident that our Clubcan survive and prosper into the future. Our confidence is based on the belief in the abilityof our Club to maintain and refresh its membership. In order to do this, the Club's coursesand facilities must be first rate, so as to be the Club of choice in the area. The Club is in a unique location and our focus has been to improve the playing conditionsand to make it a stand out for prospective members. With the completion of the recentcourse renovations, the courses should continue to improve in years to come. Given the completion of our course renovations focus is turning to the Club House whichis in need of renovation. We are developing a Master Plan for the Club House and itsenvirons which may, if necessary, be completed in stages, but when completed shouldsatisfy the members' aspirations. It is no secret that the Club House maintenance is becoming unmanageable withoutsignificant improvements being made in certain areas. Balancing our ability to maintainthese facilities from operating funds and improving them through CDF is prudent and willensure our long-term success as a Club. There are exciting times ahead! Sincerely Francois Swart General Manager

Randpark Club hosted the prestigious Joburg Open golf tournament that saw severalinternational players participate in the biggest annual professional golf event in Africafrom 7 to 10 December 2017. This historic tournament, with R16.5 million in prizemoney, was the first tri-sanctioned golf tournament on South African soil. “It is an honour to be chosen to host the Joburg Open and we are confident that wewill offer a world class tournament,” says Francois Swart, general manager ofRandpark. “In recent years, we have upgraded and modernised our two championshipgolf courses, Firethorn and Bushwillow, with the assistance of Golf Data and golfcourse architect, Sean Quinn. The courses were redesigned to offer average golfplayers a more forgiving playing experience, while making it a little more challengingfor the professional golfer.” Mellett Hendrikse, golf director, welcomed the announcement of Herman Mashaba, mayor of Johannesburg, that the Club has been chosen as host. “Randpark Club hasa good reputation as a championship course, which was proven two decades agowhen the SA Open was held here. This time we will use the opportunity to learn fromthe expectations of professional players as well as professional tournament directorsto enhance the playing experience at our courses,” he says. The Joburg Open is part of the European, Asian and Sunshine Tours and is one offour South African events on the European Tour schedule. The tournament was heldfor the first time in 2007. So far only three players from other countries have won theJoburg Open. It has the largest field on both tours with 240 professionals, including 30Asian Tour members, four amateur invites, with the remainder shared between theEuropean and Sunshine Tours.

“I have no doubt that you and your team are very proud of the manner in which the Club hosted the Jhb Open, unbelievable organisation and overall

condition of the courses. I had the privilege of watching the 62 by Blomstrand on day 3 before the cameras were even out.

He was only followed on TV on his last 3 holes. Really made it worthwhile walkingaround. If I am not mistaken he shot the lowest round on FT over the weekend."

Course PlayabilityOur members would have found both courses very challenging post the tournament andfor quite some time as we struggled to cut the rough down to normal height. This wasindeed a learning curve for us and we will ensure that this does not take as long, shouldwe host the tournament again. Our member’s enjoyment is first priority and we appreciateyour patience. The Club gained a tremendous amount of exposure from hosting such a prestigiousevent. The tournament generated R1, 605, 984 for the week without food and beveragesales. The operating expenses for the week totalled R595, 296 including the coursepreparation costs. We purchased equipment and completed various projects inpreparation for the tournament which totalled R782, 879. The net surplus generated fromthe Joburg Open was R227, 809. The improvements made during preparation waswithout a doubt an investment in our courses and the Club House not only for futuretournaments but also for member enjoyment. Thank you to the Randpark team for makingus proud and for our members support throughout the tournament.

PRESIDENT'S REPORTLadies & Gentlemen, On behalf of the Committee it is my pleasure to report on the Club's activities for the yearended 31st March 2018. One of the major highlights of the year was the privilege of hosting the Joburg Open 2018.This was in line with our vision for the upgrade of the Firethorn course and in line with ourintention to host prestigious tournaments in future. A big thank you again to our members forsupporting the Firethorn project and we believe that this is only the beginning of possiblymany more opportunities to come. With our various facilities, family friendly atmosphere andoverall spirit, we are becoming an attractive venue of choice. Due to the many uncertainties we are faced with on a daily basis, it has become harder eachyear to plan ahead as a business. With the increasing costs and volatility in the Rand, thegolf industry has been placed in a very tough position. Our management team together withthe Finance Committee are constantly monitoring these costs, and expenditure is closelybudgeted and controlled. Retaining our members and gaining new members continues to bea major focus as a Club, but this is becoming more difficult each year as our competitorscontinue to reduce fees in order to survive. Golf rounds are highly sought after and newmarketing ideas are being introduced all the time to ensure that Randpark is the desiredplace of choice to host golf days. Other revenue streams and initiatives are being introducedby Francois and his staff to encourage the facilitating of conferences, private functions andmember's days. Due to our changing environment, the committee undertook to revise the strategic plan forthe Club with emphasis on key focus areas which must be implemented in the year to come. The strategic plan and goals can be perused on pages 5, 6 & 7 of the annual report. It isimportant that we focus on growing the areas of the Club which can provide future growth inrevenue, together with our on-going drive to provide a memorable golfing experience. Once again, thank you to our Ladies Captain, Lesley Richard, and her committee for all theydo for the ladies section as well as the Club as a whole with their continued success withtheir Mixed Open days. Our management and staff need to be praised for their continued enthusiasm and energy. They take pride in looking after us as members as well as our guests. We are constantlycomplimented for the manner in which we host golf days and functions, always obliging andwith a smile! Thank you to each and everyone of you for your loyalty to Randpark Club. To my fellow committee members once again thank you for volunteering of your time andexpertise to Randpark Club. Sometimes this can be a thankless job but your unselfishdedication is much appreciated. On behalf of the Committee, staff and members of Randpark, I wish to extend our deepestsympathy to the next of kin of those members who passed away during the reporting period. In closing, I express my sincere thanks and appreciation to all the members for theircontinued support of our Club. Garth Elliott Club President 03 September 2018

LADIES CAPTAIN'S REPORTThere is a saying the older you get, the quicker time flies and that has certainly been thecase this year. My Committee has been of great help to me this year. A thank you to Irene for her helpas my Vice, to Alice for taking and then typing up the minutes of our meetings, to Jennyfor the smooth running of the Mixed Opens and for Debbie for taking over the handicapswhen Jacqui sadly had to resign her membership. I know that she’s not here, but I wouldalso like to say thank you and goodbye to Linda who ran the Ladies Opens for us.Unfortunately, Linda and Evan have resigned their membership of Randpark as they aremoving to Henley on Klip. Linda, myself and all the ladies from Randpark wish you andEvan all the best in your move and hope to see you sometime at Randpark. I would alsolike to say goodbye to another of our lady members, Sanett. You have only been with usa short time but we hope you enjoyed your stay with us and good luck to you and Clive inyour move back to Durban. We have approximately 150 lady golfing members. Angie mentioned last year about theeconomic conditions of our country and I think that golf is even more of a luxury now andthe Club is working hard on attracting new lady members and us as lady members needto help the Club in this regard. We continue to run the Ladies and Mixed Opens on a monthly basis and continue to besupported by our own members and visitors. This year we entered 4 League Teams, consisting of two Sunday teams, one Bronze teamand one Silver team. Our Sunday Randpark 1 team, I don’t think they’ll mind me saying, struggled starting off but have come back fighting. Unfortunately they cannot win theirDivision. Randpark 2 still have a fighting chance and it will all come down to their last twogames. Good luck ladies. Bronze are already finished their season and still have achance to finish second in their Division. I can say at the moment that our Silver Teamhave already made it through to the Semi Finals with one match remaining in theirDivision (well done team). Club Champs took place in April this year and although the weather washed out themajority of the men, us Ladies managed to finish. A great evening of prize giving and foodculminated in the award of Ladies Club Champ going to Kajal Mistry. Kajal is representingSouth Africa at the moment in Ireland and studying hard for her matric exams. She hasalso given a verbal acceptance to Arkansas University where fingers crossed she will beplaying Collegiate Golf next year. We would also like to welcome Zethu Myeki, who ispresently representing South African in Ghana, and Cara Ford to Randpark this year whoare both hopefully also going to be stars of the future. I would like to thank Mellett, Stuart and Pieter for all their help in organising our golf. ToGaby and Shaylene for all their help in the admin of all the events we do in the LadiesSection. To Patricia who designs all the posters and adverts that get put on to the LGGand Randpark Facebook pages and to Nokuthula, my go to girl for all Ladies & Mixedbookings, you are a star. I would also like to thank Garth, Kevin, Derek, Francois and therest of the General Committee for their constant support and advice.

GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORT

Finally, Ladies a big thank you to you all as without you in my life, my life would be veryboring. Let us keep on moving forward towards a stronger Ladies Section. It is now on to next year and I can only hope that we go onward and upward. Lesley Richard Ladies Captain 3 September 2018 It was another year filled with excitement, challenges and many changes. Themanagement team and committee undertook to use the year to consolidate theoperations of the Club after the extensive upgrade of the Firethorn course. This alsomeant that we would look at a way forward to uplift the overall experience of the Club’sfacilities and services for our members, which they can be proud of. Well, the year hada few surprises in store and it was without a doubt a really good year for the Club inmany ways. The year started off with clear signals that Randpark was slowly but surely building agreat reputation as the Club to host tournaments, prestigious events and functions. Wealready hosted the SAGES Nationals, Senior Ladies Nationals, Big Easy TourChallenges and the Sunshine Tour Q School Final. We have also seen a steadyincrease in our golf days, functions and events which continues to contribute to thefuture sustainability of the Club. We also recognized various opportunities within theClub which needed to improve or could contribute to the Club more than it was at thatpoint in time. This led to a focus which brought various outsourced facilities back under managementcontrol of the Club. The driving range was re-launched with much needed change inApril 2017 and immediately created an atmosphere which was enjoyed by all. PhilSimmons was appointed as manager of the facility and there is no doubt that the teamat the range has uplifted the experience and service delivery for our members. The driving range also showcased the first Mizuno performance fitting centre in Africawhich made our new driving range a truly professional facility. We launched the new cycling studio and running track to further expand on the Club’sfocus as a golf and lifestyle brand. With the health and wellness trends knocking on ourdoors it was important to expand on products and services to our members wherepossible. These facilities will continue to form part of the Club’s future and with someexciting prospects lying ahead to expand on the family lifestyle brand. In September 2017 we were very surprised and excited at the same time having beenawarded the Joburg Open 2018. This was a goal set by the committee andmanagement team after the upgrade of our courses. The tournament was a greatsuccess and we look forward to hosting many more of these prestigious tournaments.members can read more about the Joburg Open on page 8 and 9.

Club Operations

We completed various other projects in and around the Club, which included: • Full IT network upgrade including Wi-Fi and telephony • The completion of cart paths on Firethorn • New course furniture, tee signage, tee markers and fairway markers • Renovation of both tennis courts • Exterior painting of the Club House building • Soft upgrade of the men’s locker room • Soft upgrade of Club venue’s • Full renovation of the kitchen Randpark continues to be recognized as an award winning Club. We were the recipientsof various awards during the year: • Best of Joburg 2017 – Best Golf Course (6th year in a row) • Lilizela Tourism Award Finalist • ROCCI Award – 2017 Business of the Year, Gold Winner in the Recreation Category Our golf days, functions and events remains a big drawing card to the Club. We haveseen consistent growth and fantastic feedback from members, corporates and guests. The events team consisting of Gaby Lubeck, Tracy Dean and Sharon Meyer must becommended for their ongoing efforts in putting together truly amazing events. Theirdedication, focus and energy is highly appreciated in delivering first class service. The F&B team headed up by Glenn Cox and Sihle Skwambane continued to delivergreat service all year round. They stood up to the challenge during the Joburg Opencatering for over 1100 people a day throughout the week. Improvements were madeduring the course of the year showing much better financial results in the end. We areexcited about the changes in the year ahead, as the F&B team will be creating newmenus and products in line with the kitchen renovation. The focus on Sales and Marketing is more important than ever to ensure that we growthe brand, drive membership and promote our Club products. Patricia Verwey joined theteam to take up the role as Sales and Marketing manager, together with the Livewiredteam. They have truly uplifted the standards on how we communicate to our members, promote the brand and focus on opportunities. Saul and his team as security continues to look after us and always welcomes everyonewith a smile. We have seen very few serious incidents at the Club in the past few years, which adds to the attraction of being a member and bringing your family to the Club. We turned our attention to the Club House post the course renovations and the Club’saging facilities remains one of our biggest challenges. Willie Boshoff and his team madehuge progress in this last year to improve on areas of the Club which impacts on ourmember’s experience. We have drawn up a 5-year plan as part of our strategy whichtakes into account all maintenance and improvements that needs to be made at the Club.We will also continue to look for more sustainable solutions to reduce future maintenancecosts.

Golf Operations and the Courses

Training and promoting a culture within the team is high priority and crucial to our Club’sbrand. To ensure that we uplift our service levels and grow our brand we must work withthe various teams who will ensure that we deliver on our customer journey. This is aprocess which will take time to fully implement but we know that this is very achievablewith ongoing feedback from our members, improved communication and measuring ofresults. There were a few changes within the Randpark team during the year as we saw somekey members of management and staff growing into bigger and stronger positions. There is no doubt that the experience gained at the Club sets forth a path of success forall our team members. We wish them the best of luck in their future careers and thankthem for all the hard work they put into making this the best club for our members. Wealso endured the loss of some long standing members of staff which had a significantimpact on our members and their peers. It once again proves what a close knit familyenvironment this Club has. These staff members will be sorely missed and they areirreplaceable in the hearts of our members and their peers. The Golf Department continued to showcase some creative thinking with new andexciting golf events. These events are aimed at growing the social aspect of the game. There is no doubt that the game of golf is changing and we must continue to challengethe way we deliver on our golfing experience, through both competitive and funcompetitions. I would like to thank Mellett Hendrikse and his team for the hard work that they have putin to looking after all the members, visitors and golf days. It is not always easy but theycontinue to show their dedication and willingness to grow the game each and every day. Our courses matured over the years and it was quite a relief starting a new year withmainly maintenance in mind. We went through a better part of 7 years doing projectsand improvements on our courses, which also puts pressure on the greenkeepers as it isnot easy to deliver the desired presentation all the time. The greenkeepers and their team continued to come up with new solutions to managecourse challenges which delivered better results but also pathed the way for moresustainable course maintenance. The ongoing practice of dusting the greens proved tobe a huge success and vastly improved the putting surfaces. There is no doubt that wehave made significant progress on our courses and we are proud to showcase themeach and every day. The greenkeeping team managed by Roger Innes (Head superintendent), Ivan vanHeerden and Stefan Jacobs did us proud this last year, especially after they deliveredtruly remarkable courses for Joburg Open and with very short notice. We recognized that there would be tough times ahead and that the Club was not immuneto the hardships faced due to economic and political uncertainty. This was particularlyclear for membership, as the economic impact would certainly make this a luxury in manyhouseholds. It did not take long to see the results of the downturn, as we saw a drasticdecline mid-year. The cost of membership impacted on many members but we saw themain decline from members who were overcommitted and had very little or no time toplay golf. Progress was made during the year to retain members and fortunately we wereable to regain some of the shortfall later in the year. We also had a glaring gap in our membership from ages 21 to 30 as we had less than291 (13.7% of total) members across three categories. After extensive market researchand focus groups we realigned the membership categories to better suit today’s lifestylesituation and grew the young member categories to over 600. The continuous need to adapt and change our offering for members is clear as we arefacing tougher times as a Club. We also understand that the expectation and delivery ofa value proposition is crucial to making a selection and commitment as a member. Theaddition of the young members is a crucial element of “filling the basket”. A model whichsees a fair contribution from all categories which reduces the burden on only a fewmember categories. We showed positive growth in many areas of the Club. I am pleased to report that thestrategic decision taken to reallocate expenses and manage each department’sprofitability showed results this past year, as all departments made an operating surplus. Golf rounds increased from 81 952 to 84 864, also taking into account a two week rainout in the month of March. We exceeded budget by 2 684 rounds and increased by 2 732against last year. We saw a positive growth in our total golf income of 11.38% includingthe golf income from Joburg Open. The driving range showed great results for the firstyear exceeding all expectation and budget. Golf course expenses overall increased by 10% year on year and finished 2% belowbudget. The fluctuations in rand/dollar continues to impact on our operating costs. Thegreenkeepers did an excellent job at presenting our courses to tournament standardswithout significant increases in course maintenance costs. Course machine replacementcosts are a real threat as it increased by 220% in the last 14 years (15.7% average perannum) due to the rand/dollar and annual price increases. We are constantly looking fornew ways to reduce course maintenance costs without impacting negatively on ourbiggest asset. Bar and catering made budget and increased by 6% year on year. Improved controlsshowed a better GP result in both and we finished the year with a net surplus of R1, 023, 073 against R690, 513 last year. The Club’s staff compliment is managed very carefully as it has been over the last fewyears, we have only seen an average increase of 7% per annum for the last three years. It is crucial that we retain the correct number of team members to ensure that we areable to deliver on our desired service levels. This last year we saw a higher than normalincrease in salaries and wages mainly due to the addition of the driving range staff being

P A G E 1 6 ● W W W . R A N D P A R K . C O . Z A

brought on board. We also had a few of the course staff that retired after many years of loyalservice, which resulted in a higher than normal increase for leave paid out. Total revenue for the year increased by 8.5% and expenses increased by 8.4%. We showedan operating surplus of R3, 757, 428 which increased by 27.6% year on year. Operating surplus for the year Depreciation Course improvements and projects Investment and non-recurring income Provisions and write-offs Finance charges Taxation Net Surplus for the year 1. Property rates At the 2017 AGM we raised the serious threat regarding the valuation of the property and theimpact of being reclassified by the city as business and commercial. This increased our ratesfrom R10, 000 per month to R106, 000 per month. We continued to fight the change incategory and in November 2017 we received confirmation that this was incorrect andtherefore changed back to private open space. This meant that we would get a rates“holiday” for the previous valuation roll and the charges were reversed. Unfortunately, thisvictory was short lived as we once again received notification that we are classified asAgricultural Business as of July 2018. This meant that we would be back to square one withpaying R104, 000 per month. We have since objected as required and continue to fight thischange. 2. Capital development fund projects approved for the 2018 financial year With the Firethorn project complete we turned our attention to Club House projects. Theprojects were presented at the AGM and approved by the members. The CDF remained atR1, 650.00 per member and consisted of the following: Club locker rooms Kitchen revamp with new equipment Club ablutions, soft upgrade Club interior and venue upgrade We recognised the urgency of completing the locker rooms ahead of the Joburg Open andthe kitchen renovations started in January 2018 ahead of the new financial year due to lowperiods of business. This meant that we would fund the improvements from the overdraft andrecoup as of April 2018. The balance of the projects will be completed as and when we haverecouped the funds spent on the first phase of the project. 3. Cash position We started the financial year with the undertaking to reduce the overdraft as soon aspossible. The financial year finished with the overdraft being R2, 697, 790 which washigher than the previous year. The reason for the increase in the overdraft is explainedas follows: 1. CDF projects were funded from the overdraft to the value of R1, 057 686, this wouldbe recouped from the 1st April 2018. 2. We raised a provision at the end of March 2017 for backdated electricity which wasvalued at R861, 000 excl. Vat. Upon further investigation and numerous meetings withCity Power, it was confirmed as being correct and we paid the backdated portion at theend of March 2018. Taking these two factors into account, we in fact improved on the overdraft throughoperations during the year. The repayment of the overdraft remains a top priority as perour commitment to the members. We trust that we will not have any further surpriseswhich will set us back from achieving this goal. I would like to thank Johan van der Nest (Financial Manager), Deon van der Schyff (HRManager) and their admin team for the hard work this past year. Their efforts have showna great improvement in overall efficiency and accuracy. It is no secret that the golf industry is struggling and that change is necessary. Randparkis in a fortunate position to offer a wide variety of facilities which we can expand on toenhance the golf and lifestyle experience. There is no doubt in my mind that we willcontinue to grow from strength to strength due to our ability to adapt and enthusiasm tomake changes. Our members are the core of this business and we will continue to serveyou to the best of our ability. Randpark is your home away from home for the entirefamily. On behalf of the management and staff I would like to thank all our members for thesupport over the last twelve months. Also for the support from the Committee and theextra time they committed to the Club. Francois Swart General Manager 03 September 2018 Another year gone by, and although it is fair to say that Firethorn has pretty much settled, the golf industry is on the verge of a whole new revolution. Talks about shortened 9-holecourses, 12-hole facilities, practically a different offering all together is being consideredto overcome today’s busy lifestyle. Declining disposable income and more hours spent at work means that when time isspent on recreational activities, it needs to be worth it and allow for participation of theentire family. Thus our service offering and our competition formats had to alignaccordingly. We adopted a philosophy of high level standards on our courses whilstkeeping the playability very enjoyable.

It goes without saying that new fun events had to be created and a new approach on thegolfing world had to be introduced, besides the customer journey being the number onepriority. So playing around with new ideas whilst keeping the satisfaction was quite ajuggle. This year was probably one for the record books in terms of changes within the GolfDepartment. Not only did we change our mindset on how we see golf in the Club, but wealso had a few changes within our team. Although it was sad to lose the key individualswith great potential, we gained new team members who have stepped up and carried onthe legacy of Randpark still having the best service in town. We had to say goodbye to Thembi Mthembu, who managed our weekend bookings andlooked after our members’ golfing calendar well. She was a massive contributor to thesuccess of the department and as unfortunate as it was to see her go, our ownNokuthula Dlamini, previously a receptionist, stepped up to the plate and has been goingstrong ever since. Our Golf Manager moved on to a different calling. Andrew Pilley whonot only got married to his high school sweetheart, but together with his wife went toThailand to teach. His replacement Stuart Blackie has been an excellent appointmentwho in his first year has already shown his worth. With a new team, fresh ideas and a different perspective, we could only but take theClub on a new journey to be the ultimate golf experience. Our department's goal is todiscover what makes the golfer return to the Club and ensure that every experience isunique and memorable. Last year we made mention that we would like to tackle a couple of aspects that we feltwas threatening the golfing industry, these were: - Slow Play - Discipline - Member value offering - Exciting member events and new attractions Slow Play is a trend in the golf industry that is not going away anytime soon. Howeverwe can proudly say that although we have issues from time to time, the pace of playexperience at Randpark compared to most of our surrounding facilities is a far greaterone. Especially if one listens to the feedback from our members who often play at otherfacilities. Discipline is a growing concern within the golfing world and we can only assume thatlife’s stresses plays a big role on any golfer’s patience and tolerance levels. We have puta few small procedures together to try and alleviate these as much as possible; givemembers as much information on the tee-box with regards to how we do things here andwhat is expected at the Club. We also trained our marshals to be more pro-active ingiving players in the field feedback on what the status of things are at that time. Thereare a few small things to put members and their guests at ease, assuring them that wehave everything under control. Unfortunately we can’t fix the golf swing, so certainfrustrations we might just have to live with a little longer. Our members are definitely turning over every Rand, so our value proposition needs tostay attractive. We have realised that the only way we can achieve this is byunderstanding our members and their golfing expectations, and just ensure that we liveup to this expectation. It is not always easy with so many members, but that is what

makes Randpark such a great facility to work at. Loads of challenges, loads of fun, loadsof successes and a few bumps in the road. A great learning experience for anyone whomakes a real effort to understand their membership and keep striving for a higher valueproposition. We reconciled our Trophy events for the year and revived the existing ones that did nothave as much pull as what we saw in previous years. Without needing to create differentevents, we successfully got most of our events back on the calendar and got theparticipation levels nice and high. We did however have our first Masters event, and wewent all out. A green jacket was awarded to the winner and we hosted a dinner for himand his guests. For the coming year we have plans to introduce quite a few fun events and will havethose participation levels nice and high. We look forward to bringing our membersanother great year on the golf course. Our in play areas have drastically improved, and being awarded the Joburg Open hasreally helped us understand the full potential of our courses. Our greenkeepers were ableto put together a phenomenal golf course for this prestigious occasion. We were in thefortunate position where we received some rain just at the right time, which allowed us toprepare the courses for this prestigious event. Our Tree Planting Project is something that we have given some attention to, with notonly planting new trees, but also removing some trees that are not indigenous to our areaand some that posed a potential danger if it had to fall over. There is still a lot of workneeded in order for us to achieve our end goal, but understanding how long it takes fortrees to grow to a height where it has an impact on play, we really have to move at asimilar pace. The gum poles that we introduced last year has really made a massive impact on areasaround the greens. We have seen a vast improvement on these areas where previously,it was very thin due to the cart traffic. Carts on our courses are quite popular and we willcontinue to assess our playing areas to ensure the playing experience at Randpark isalways a memorable one. As part of a sponsorship, we got some new hole signage along with new furniture on thestarting holes as well as the Par 3’s. Our signage throughout the course is important tous as some questionnaires came back indicating that the visiting players did not alwaysknow where to go to proceed to the following tee-box. The courses are now what wewould think adequately marked, with our next project being that of our sprinkler headdistances. A whole new business, a new revenue stream for the Club. One of the best things we didat the start of our financial year. We took over the running of the Driving Range andalthough our initial input into the facility has much more than we wanted to spend, wehave made our money back within the first year. We employed a Master PGAProfessional, Phil Simmons, who we all know has been in this industry for many years

and has shown that with the right personality running an operation, how much better themember experience is. Our goal is to offer the best on course practice facility, even though open to the public.Every month we have done something small to improve the facility and will continue todo so in the year to come. Randpark’s league sides are still a great reflection on our active membership within theClub. The teams have not necessarily performed as well as they did previously, but wedid manage to get much more camaraderie amongst the respective league teams. Forthe first time in many years, our Premium Mid-Amateur league side managed to win thepremium division, which still indicates that we are a force to be reckoned with in ourmiddle aged golfers. We would like to congratulate all our members who have given so much of their time torepresent the Club, and knowing what impact it has on their families, we feel that it isonly fair to also thank the families of these members. A special thanks to the team Captains and Managers for their time they have giventhroughout the year. These individuals are: Kevin Du Preez – Club Captain & 1st Scratch League Team Manager Derek McGowan – Vice Captain & 2nd Scratch League Team Manager Johan Aucamp – 1st Scratch League Team Captain Michael Botha – 2nd / 3rd Scratch League Team Manager Michael Armstrong – 2nd Scratch League Team Captain JB Dill – 3rd Scratch League Team Captain Danie Prinsloo, Nilesh Mistry, Michael Botha & Graeme Vrugtman – Junior LeagueTeam Managers Stef Greeff – Mid Amateur Team Captain Adian Wilsnach, Uli Lubeck, Bradley de Klerk, Darryl den Heyer, Hylton Glasspool &Greg Collier-Payne – Betterball League Captains Graeme Farr & Hylton Glasspool – Senior Betterball League Captains Herewith the results for the last calendar year: Scratch League A year where quite a lot of our players moved into the Mid-Amateur category, and wehad some youngsters move into our first side. A tough league to compete in, butfortunately we are in the position to still have three teams in the league representingRandpark. Both our 1st Team and 2nd Team participated in the Premier Division, but our2nd Team could unfortunately not hold their spot for the coming year. Our 1st Team finished mid table, a good finish considering the introduction of young andnew players within the team. The 3rd Team remained in the 3rd Division for the year, but it will be interesting to seewhere we will finish in the coming year knowing that we will have many new facesplaying.

Mid-Amateur League The Firethorn Team, now complimented with a younger crowd, has elevated the team tothe top of the log. The Firethorn Team managed to win the Premium Division and lookforward to defending their title in the coming year. The Bushwillow side, unfortunately finished last on the log and got relegated to the CDivision for the coming season. This is just a sign that the age category change from 35to 30 has had a massive impact on the strength of the opposing sides. Betterball League A good first year with the new Captains. Teams have settled and a very clear selectioncriteria has been set into motion and is being adhered to by the Captains. Many new members have been introduced to the respective teams, which is exactlywhat we wanted to see. We would like to congratulate the Captains on the fantasticmanner in which they have handled league this past year and how they kept the playerscommitted for the entire year. It is not always seen how much effort goes into getting acouple of players together to participate in a league event. Well done and keep going. Senior Betterball League New Captains and a few new faces. Definitely a positive for Randpark. We have neverreally dominated this league, but we have always been able to fill two sides and seen alot of enjoyment from those participating in this league. Our new Captains for the respective teams are Neil Neilson and Willi Wagner. Theyhave also made it so much easier with their communication always being spot on. Junior League The new players keep filtering through the two respective teams. On the one hand, it ispositive to have so many youngsters being exposed to league golf, but quite tough tofind the right combination as junior league is played in teams of two. We haveunfortunately had some matches where it was tough to field a complete side of 8players, but this is mostly due to school holidays and big junior tournaments on thecalendar clashing with the league. We are not the only Club who has this problem, and itis very clear to see that junior’s golf is dependent on the social activities of their parents. We would specifically like to thank all those parents who do make the time to supporttheir youngsters to participate in our Junior League. We know that this does take a lot ofyour family time away on a Sunday afternoon. We are sure that we will see a lot more commitment from the sides in the coming yearas many new youngsters have put up their hand to participate in Junior League. Special Acknowledgement Kajal Mistry – A young girl with so many accolades, she has not only won our LadiesClub Championship on numerous occasions, but she has throughout the year wonnumerous amateur events, including the SA Amateur Championship. She was not onlycrowned number one in SA, but she managed to maintain this position for most of 2017.She is definitely a member who has done Randpark proud.

Randpark Club has made a tremendous amount of progress over the years focusing onenvironmental sustainability. We made significant changes to both our courses takinginto consideration the long term sustainability of water and the environment. RandparkClub is amongst the most popular golf clubs in South Africa with beautiful facilities, a richhistory and is home to some of the most amazing fauna & flora. The golf courses areboth beautiful and challenging. Stewardship of the environment has been a core part ofthe philosophy of the Club; they are in the process of getting their international GolfEnvironmental Organization accreditation (GEO). Randpark Club has always displayed very responsible environmental standards, led thepace and furthermore seeks to minimize any additional adverse environmental orcommunity impacts. Holistically, their infrastructure facilities continue to improve, havingreduced energy consumption in the Club House over the past year, through theimplementation of lights being changed to energy efficient purchases. The Club's Water Management, collection and storage is one of the most efficient andeffective overflow designs. All water used at the Club is based on borehole collection andstorage, the only water used at the Randpark facility is what’s been provided naturallyand stored for use. We have compiled a report which highlights the work done at Randpark and showing theefforts of a fantastic greenkeeping team who never stops to challenge the status quo.Our team started the year with a “Going Green” strategy which aligns with the Club’soverall strategy and it has become a key part of the greenkeeping teams KPA’s. Our Strategic Objective Maintaining environmentally friendly practises to reduce Randpark’s carbon footprint bytaking part in green initiatives, projects and drives, ensuring a sustainable future for ourClub. Here at Randpark Club we strive to go as green as our playing greens, we do thisby: • Recycling all waste products respectively • All grounds are watered with potable borehole water • All water on the entire golf club is potable borehole water • We maintain municipal areas such as the Arend Park and Republic Road • We have a very strict tree planting program where we remove all alien trees and plantindigenous trees • We aim to receive a GEO certification which is a suite of credible and recognisedvoluntary sustainability standards and certification for golf facilities, developments andtournaments

Actions 2017 – 2020 • Randpark registered for GEO certification and will start recording all required progressand information to receive our final certification by 2020. We believe that GEO processwill set the benchmark for us to achieve our going green objective • We recently finalised the tree planting program which focuses on removing alienspecies and planting over 2000 new trees throughout the two courses Randpark has achieved great results with various going green initiatives and we haveshared some of the feedback, reports and steps taken in recent years. We have added below a report from John Collier on Randpark. “Sustainability compliance in action is the Randpark Golf Club in Johannesburg.Inclusive approach that balances the needs, interests and expectations of this club is aprevious TOP CLUB winner of the John Collier Environmental material stakeholders inthe best interests of the organisation over time.” Randpark continues to hold Gold Compliance Level Status. Awareness of environmentallegislative issues is always important and it is not surprising that Randpark Golf Club hasbeen selected to host the Joburg Open Tournament from 7 to 10 December 2017. RogerInnes and his team are to be congratulated for the work. Especially with regards to theefficient management of irrigation, grass, fauna and flora. We have been working with Jock Tame for many years and he continues to provideimportant information to the Club on how to apply best practices. We have included keysections from his reports which verifies best practices on our courses.

“A hundred percent organic fertilizer product has been applied to the fairways of both golfcourses as a base fertilizer. This fertilizer consists of vermicasts (humus) and biochar. The combination attracts and retains moisture increasing the efficiency and retention ofirrigation water. When rainfall has increased stabilised nitrogen is applied at extremelylow rates to improve the quality and aesthetics of the turfgrass. The actual nitrogenapplication has been reduced from 180kg (norm for kikuyu grass) of actual nitrogen perannum to a maximum of 80kg of actual nitrogen per annum. This reduces waterconsumption by approximately 20% by reducing soft growth associated with high nitrogenapplications.” “Randpark Club is one of the most compliant golf facilities in relation to governmentregulations concerning water usage. Much has already been done to reduce waterconsumption. If all golfing facilities placed as much emphasis on water issues asRandpark does, the industry would be in a far better position to meet currentenvironmental and sustainability criteria.” The Greenkeepers at Randpark have set a challenge to all their members: Members willplant more trees than Greenkeepers. This is how the challenge works: The format will be Betterball Matchplay. The members choose one of our courses. TheGreenkeepers play with a hand full of clubs and practice balls – their latest technology inequipment is from the 90’s. The losing team has to plant how many trees they lose by, i.e. 5/4 – plant 5 trees.Congratulations to our Greenkeepers who won the first Challenge. We look forward toour members stepping up their game in the next Challenge taking place on 26 April.

1. KELLAND WETLANDS: Randpark is busy assisting COJ with the Kelland Wetlandsrehabilitation project. This projects is set to revive the wetland area and integrating it withthe course and natural water streams. 2. GEO: We have attended the GEO workshop in March 2018 and will be starting theprocess in due course. We are aiming at being GEO certified by end of 2019. 3. TREE PLANTING PROGRAM: Randpark has an indigenous tree only policy andwhenever possible only trees that are endemic to the area are planted. These trees areadapted to our micro climate and attract local bird species and insects. We have very fewbluegum trees left and are in the process of removing the last few on the Bushwillowcourse. All black wattles have been removed but we are in a constant battle to removeseedlings sprouting along the river banks. We have also removed massive areas ofPrivets that invaded our natural areas and river banks. Our tree list includes: Combretum erythrophyllum | Sercia lancea | Sercia pyroides |Sercia leptodyctyia | Celtis Africana | Acacia karroo | Acacia sieberana | Olea europeiasubs Africana | Buddleja saligna | Budleja auriculata | Budleja salvifolia. We also make a concerted effort to leave our natural koppies non-maintained as habit forsmall mammals. Whenever we take out trees we replace them with one of the abovementioned trees. 4. BEE HIVES: We have installed 12 Bee hive units across Bushwillow and Firethorn. This installation is part of an on-going greening project on both courses. All units havebeen placed in safe areas to assist with biodiversity. Bees are important pollinators in theenvironmental food cycle and they promote growth in expanding plant species. 5. OIL RECYCLING: Pridon is a registered Bio Diesel Manufacturer. We buy back theused oil form our customers, for the use of making Bio Diesel. The Bio Diesel is usedthen for selling to public and for own use, as it is a greener environmental friendly fuel. 6. RECYCLING: We focused our efforts on recycling, commencing the process ofconverting its supply chain into a green supply chain, educating various stakeholders, influencing and impacting the golfing community and the community at large in a “green”manner. The conversion process for the Joburg Open into a green event has been setover a period of 3 years simply because setting up the tournament on its own is amammoth task that requires a large number of elements to come together and as it’sbeen said throughout time “you can’t eat an elephant hole, you take it one bite at a time”.We are proud of the fact that we recycle all our waste at Randpark.

7. ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES: A golf course needs to be sustainable and can onlybe that way if sound environmental profiles are followed. We try and encourage bird andsmall animal life through planting indigenous trees and preserving the few natural out ofplay areas that we have. We have installed a few owl boxes on the course and have hadtwo pairs of successful breeding owls over the past few seasons. Owls are great huntersand are extremely efficient at removing pests like rats and mice without chemicals.Unfortunately their numbers are threatened by the use of rodent poisons. We no longer use nitrate based fertilizers and rather use urea as a nitrogen source. Weaim to use 50% organically based fertilizers on our fairways. Nitrates leach easily andcontaminate water sources. We limit fungicide applications to greens only and only spraywhen it is absolutely necessary. Insecticide applications are also minimal, we follow anIntegrated Pest Management program and only spray one preventive application peryear on greens. Randpark continues to work with the community to deliver a great experience on ourcourse and off our course. We assist in many ways which includes, cleaning of publicstreets and maintaining residential parks within our community. Below is an article whichwas recently released.

Randpark Community Assistance

Conclusion What going green means to us! “Optimising the playing quality of the golf course in harmony with the conservation of itsnatural environment under economically sound and socially responsible management.”The idea is; within club/facility budgets, to create and manage dry, firm and airy turf on agolf course populated by grasses that require the least chemicals, fertiliser and water formaintenance. This will mean less waste and reduced risk of polluting the environment. Why is it important? It’s becoming increasingly clear that manicured, unnaturally green golf coursesmaintained by excessive watering and chemical treatments are not sustainable. This isbecause there are ever more stringent environmental regulations on the amount of waterand pesticides that can be used. In addition, the cost of maintaining a golf course in thisway is becoming too great in a competitive market. A sustainable approach takes intoaccount both environmental and economic factors while continuing to aim for goodquality playing surface.
