International Mission

January 10th-21st 2013 a team including myself and 4 teachers visited our HOH school for training. In July 6th-19th 2013, We officially opened our School as our building were completed. We held our first Indonesian parent meeting. We started with 4 classes and 84 children.

Projects for 2013

During 2013 we undertook a number of initiatives that;

• support students at risk to understand that reading is

about thinking, through building teacher capacity in

reading strategies, understanding, practice and

assessment.

• improve and measure student outcomes in writing

using the EALD Scope and Scales Tool to build teacher

capacity in what makes up a good writer. The use of

this tool is to assist an evidence based approach to

assessing and explicitly teaching the strategies for

improved writing.

• In 2013 Adaptive Education continued to consolidate and refine many processes regarding student support, teacher support and assessments.

• Some notable additional projects were undertaken. It was a pleasure to be a part of projects that reflected the heart of Bethany Christian School toward it’s students.

• Allied Health Initiative through the More Support For Students with Disabilities Project

• iPad Provision through the More Support For Students with Disabilities Project

• Representation of South Australia in the Examples of Quality Inclusive Teaching arm of ACARA (Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority

Adaptive Education

Curriculum and Coaching

• We have been steadily rewriting our Curriculum units to include robust teaching methodology. For example differentiation opportunities, assessment and success criteria, and learning intentions, in line with the National Curriculum.

• Growth Coaching

• Teacher Development- using AITSL proficiency framework

ICT Developments

Upgrade of infrastructure:• Gigabit switches and Aruba wireless network

• 2 Server hosts and a 10 TB SAN storage and virtualised all for our previous servers to ensure less downtime, more redundancy, reliability and speed.

• Explored and deployed new Backup software (Shadow Protect)

• Added 2 new wimax internet connections taking us from 4mb/s to 24mb/s.

Future plans include

• Exploring Civica education suite to replace School Pro.

iPad development

• We have deployed a trolley of 19 iPads in the library with a range of books and apps to help with resource based learning and for class research projects.

• We have deployed a trolley of 10 iPads in the Adaptive Education area to assist in the support of our students with special needs.

• The BYOD iPad trial for year 5's has been an overwhelming success with 58 out of 60 students bringing a device to school in the first term of the trial.

• We had a parent meeting at the end of 2012 to discuss year 5 iPad

The majority of staff now use and own an iPad through our salary sacrifice program.

Sporting Achievements

Bethany Christian School made up 33% of Salisbury SAPSASA squad.

A number of students have been selected in the District squad for SAPSASA.

Many of our students have participated in the SACSA state teams.

55% of our students participate voluntarily in our Sports Programs.
