6. Government College University, Faisalabad

Program B.Sc. Telecommunication Engineering

Re-accreditation is granted for one year i.e., Intake of Batch 2007 only. The house shown concern on the misleading information sent by the officials of the university to PEC regarding the compliance of the observations. It was decided that the Vice Chancellor should confirm the compliance on the following(s):- a) Atleast two PhDs faculty must be

appointed full time at market salary within six months.

b) Core and market oriented courses of final year such as RF and Microwave engineering, Wireless and mobile communication, Transmission and Switching system, and optical fiber communication, must be taught to further batches by the PhD faculty.

c) The university authorities will purchase atleast 100 more books (minimum 20 titles) relevant to Telecom curriculum and will subscribe IEEE journals for the library.

d) The department of Telecommunication Engineering should be placed under Dean of Engineering.

The university is advised to take further measures to address all other observations/weak areas mentioned PEC report.

7. Pakistan Air Force-Karachi Institute of Economics & Technology, Karachi

Program B.E Electronic Re-accreditation is recommended for one year i.e., Intake of Batch 2008 (Spring and Fall) subject to satisfactory fulfillment of following areas/conditions through a PEC confirmatory visit on the university request:-

a) The institute should immediately stop the Spring intake from 2012 and only one intake of students in Fall-2012 is allowed per year as per the available infrastructure/ facilities and faculty.

b) Institute must induct atleast two more PhDs faculty having rich experience in the field of teaching and academic leadership.

c) The curriculum needs to be restructured in line with PEC and HEC guidelines, covering required foundation, breadth & depth core engineering courses in addition to other non-engineering portion.

d) The Institute must stop Avionics, Mechatronics and Telecom engineering under the umbrella of electronic engineering, which have not been permitted so far by PEC.

e) Student/work bench ratio need to be followed strictly as per PEC guidelines.

f) Lab engineers must be inducted for each lab with BE accredited qualifications.

g) Institute may start summer school for their weak/failure students.

h) The faculty offices and other standard facilities may also be provided appropriately.

i) Committee took a serious notice for not providing proper documents to visitation team that had been mentioned in the PEC visit letter communicated to the institution.

Accreditation is granted for one year i.e., Intake of Batch 2006 only. Further accreditation is linked with the removal of following major areas and observations mentioned in the PEC visit report:- a. If the university succeeds to retain

3 PhDs faculty members for one year, only then the house recommends the regularization of an intake of 120 students.

b. Keeping in view the fact that the university started the Electrical Engineering Program in 2005, library should have at least 3500 books related to Electrical Engineering.

c. Librarian should maintain a list of exclusive titles related to Electrical Engineering.

d. Pirated books should be removed from the library.

e. Book bank should be established to facilitate the students.

f. Examination process may be made transparent by introducing a scrutiny committee to scrutinize the award list before final notification of the results.

University is advised to take serious actions to address the weak areas mentioned in the report before applying for subsequent re-accreditation.

a. Program B.E. Mechanical Re-accreditation is granted for three years i.e., Intake of Batches 2007-08 to 2009-10. The university may however be advised to take concrete measures to address the observations/weak areas especially student-teacher ratio as mentioned in report before applying for re-accreditation of subsequent batches. The compliance report should be sent to PEC within a year time.

It is advised that the students of evening batches should be adjusted in morning batch/session and further intake for evening session should be stopped immediately. Any such action/initiatives by the college university is subject to prior permission through a prescribed procedure of inspection/assessment visit request under change of scope. College should also take concrete efforts to address the weak areas mentioned in the report before applying for further re-accreditation.

These courses will be conducted at the expense of college and examination will be supervised by PEC. Details of the mechanism for the remedial courses/exam could be obtained in due course of time from PEC.

Further accreditation of batches (Spring-2009, Fall-2009 and Spring- 2010) is recommended subject to removal of weak areas mentioned in the report, especially hiring of dedicated qualified faculty and teaching of suggested courses/labs to be verified through a confirmatory visit after six months in 2012.
