What are Cannabinoids and how are they helpful?

Cannabinoids are a group of closely relatedcompounds that act on cannabinoid receptors in the body, unique to hemp orcannabis. The body creates compounds calledendocannabinoids, while hemp produces phytocannabinoids. Cannabidiol orCBD, found naturally in hemp, is legal in theUnited States, while CBD from marijuana is federally illegal in the US.

Cannabidiol is not yet FDA approved for anycondition, but many studies have shown promising results for a variety of indications.The US Government even obtained USPatent 6630507 titled, “Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants (1).” The patent claims:

“Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxi-dant properties…useful in the treatment…of awide variety of…diseases, such as…inflammatoryand autoimmune diseases…[and] to have…application as neuroprotectants… in the treatmentof neurodegenerative diseases…”
