Cultures and time periods alternate with fascinating diversity in the Medieval Town of Rodos, the seat of the Knights of Saint John from the 14th-15th century, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1988. The medieval fortress-like buildings, the narrow alleys, the minarets, the old houses with their balconies, the decorative fountains, the tranquil or busy squares with shady trees, all contribute to creating a fascinating atmosphere of the past.The cobblestone Street of the Knights, one of the best-preserved medieval streets in existence, the 14th century Palace of the Grand Master, the Hospital of the Knights which houses the Archaeological Museum are the must visits for every visitor.

One could spend days walking in the centre of the City, which offers excellent examples of European Architecture of the early 20th century, such as the Post office, the Prefecture building, the National theatre and the Town hall. Visitors can even enjoy the sun and the blue sea on the cosmopolitan Elli beach, at the northern tip of Rodos town.A stroll along the Mandraki harbour, the small city port with the statues of the Rodian Deer at its entrance, its traditional windmills and impressive Fort of Saint Nicolas is an experience not to be missed.
