AfricA is fAcing two mAjor chAllenges: How to deliver HigHer yields to feed a rapidly growing population and How to adapt to climate cHangea large number of countries in africa already face semi-arid conditions that make agriculture challenging. in regions that are fertile, dependence on traditional farming methods means yields are far below what would be expected in developed countries.

making extraordinary agricultural efficiency improvements is the only way that sub-saharan africa can raise agricultural productivity enough to feed not only itself but to play a role in feeding the world’s growing population.

with the right technology and knowledge these challenges can be overcome. african farms use the least amount of modern technology in the world, so any increase in usage will lead to enormous gains and there is evidence that farming in africa is entering a bountiful new phase. a recent world Bank report entitled “growing africa” argues that african agribusiness could be a us$ trillion-dollar market by 2030 - triple what it is today - provided farmers gain access to capital, electricity and irrigation.

gfia africa will assemble the people needed to effect real change and offer hundreds of practical solutions that can raise productivity and stop post harvest losses in all parts of the continent while mitigating the effects of over farming and climate change.

the innovators, the food producers, the farmers unions, the policy-makers, the donors, the development agencies, the ministerial buyers, the ngos, the research organisations, resellers and agents will all be there.
