LEMON TREE meets JOHN LE CARRÉ in a subtle thriller set in Germany involving Mona, a Lebanese woman (Golshifteh Farahani), and Naomi, an Israeli Mossad agent (Neta Riskin) sent to protect their informant while recovering from plastic surgery for her new identity. Mona and Naomi - together for two weeks in a quiet apartment in Hamburg. A safe house. A shelter.

No one saw what was coming, no one knew that this supposedly quiet fortnight would turn into an abyss and that shelter would need to be found elsewhere. The intimacy of the relationship that develops between the two women is exposed to the threat of terror that is engulfing the world today. In this game of deception, beliefs are questioned and choices are made that are not their own. And yet their fate takes a surprising turn in this suspense-laden, elegant neo-noir.

UNKNOWN SOLDIER is an explosive war drama about a platoon of Finnish soldiers fighting the Soviets in the Second World War.

Based on the best-selling novel by Väinö Linna and drawing from the author’s own experiences, UNKNOWN SOLDIER’s historical accuracy embraces the harsh realities of war-gritty and realistic, yet an unpolitical and humane account.

The story revolves around a diverse group of men, all at odds with how they see themselves, each other, and the common cause. Warm humour, camaraderie, and basic survival instincts are requisite for them to retain their humanity on the excruciating journey to Russia and back again.

THE DIRECTOR

Award-winning director and screenwriter Aku Louhimies is known for interpreting reality beautifully, yet truthfully. Over the past decade, his films have established him as one of the most preeminent directors of Scandinavian cinema today. The works of Louhimies, who is accomplished in both film and television, have consistently garnered international and domestic attention and praise. Included amongst his nine feature films are the European Film Award nominees 8-BALL (2013) and FROZEN LAND (2012). Louhimies also directed the five-part event series REBELLION (2016) about the birth of independent Ireland. As director, producer and writer, his most recent work THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER (2017) is an epic World War II film based on the best-known Finnish novel. A dedicated father of four, Louhimies is passionate about using the medium of film for socially and environmentally constructive purposes.

Claudio is a businessman at the top of his game. His cocky, cynical attitude has helped him greatly during his career – if he wants something, he takes it, not willing to accept no for an answer. But what happens if any sense of control you’ve had is taken away from you in an instance? This is exactly what happens to Claudio. On his way to an important meeting, his elevator gets stuck. What starts out as a mere technical difficulty turns out to be a catastrophe of much larger proportions.

Bit by bit and with his cell phone being the only source of information as he is trapped between floors, Claudio starts to realise that the world as he knew it has completely gone down the drain. Once familiar faces have turned savage and blood-smeared; a lethal virus is transforming people into highly contagious, homicidal zombies! Adi (40), a shy and introverted anthropologist who got recently dumped by his girlfriend, moves to Ferentari, the most notorious outcast neighbourhood in Bucharest. He wants to write a study on manele music. The pop music of the Roma community serves as a way out for some, but mostly as one more means for the mafia pimps to make money off their acts and keep them in slave-like dependency.

While researching his subject, Adi meets Alberto, a Roma ex-convict and a bear of a man, who promises Adi to help him. Soon, the unlikely pair begins a playful romance in which Adi feeds Alberto with improbable plans of escaping poverty and Alberto reciprocates with well-concocted phrases of love. Little by little their casual affair grows into love. BASED ON THEIR LIFE STORIES: FOUR YOUNG JEWS SURVIVETHE NAZI TERROR IN BERLIN BY BECOMING INVISIBLE IN PLAIN SIGHT.

Berlin, February 1943: The NS regime declares the Reich’s capital “free of Jews.” At this point in time, 7000 Jews have succeeded in going underground. Almost 1700 will survive the horrors of the war in Berlin. The Invisibles tells the stories of four of these contemporary witnesses.

Cioma Schönhaus has also gone underground and leads an adventurous life that consists of buying a sailboat, dining in Berlin’s best restaurants, and becoming a forger of passports, through which he saves the lives of dozens of other Jews. And while Eugen Friede joins a resistance group that distributes anti-government leaflets, Ruth Arndt dreams about a life in America during the daytime; at night, she pretends to be a war widow and serves black-market gourmet foods in the apartment of an NS officer.

The dramatic re-enactments are intertwined with impressive interviews with the actual people whose lives inspired this film. The two levels blend together into an intensive, emotionally moving feature film and a historical tribute to the witnesses – of whom two are still alive.

THE DIRECTOR

Since the early 90ies, Claus Räfle has proven a sense for provocative issues and exciting subject matters with his body of work, distinctive through its modern journalistic approach and visual sophistication.

Time and again, profound humor and laconic narrative style were noted as the signature style of his productions by jurors and TV critics alike. Thus his satirical TV documentary Die Heftmacher was praised by the jury of the German Grimme Award as the most important work of TV journalism in that year. His video clips from the 1990s garnered lots of attention with their pointedly told stories. He developed and wrote THE INVISIBLES together with Alejandra López.

Many of his almost 40 feature-length TV documentaries, on which he has also served as writer, are distinct through their unconventional perspective, thoroughly entertaining in the best sense of the word and have found their way across borders.

“A film of high historical and pedagogical value.”

Nahman Ruzumni lives on the fringes of the ultra-orthodox community in Bnei Brak, Israel. As a „Driver,“ he takes beggars to wealthy homes and coaches them telling their stories in order to inspire philanthropy.

For his services he gets a cut of the money and writes down their stories in his notebook. He spends the rest of his nights in makeshift casinos and dining halls with the more questionable members of this pious society.

But when his wife suddenly leaves, Ruzumni is faced with the responsibility of taking care of his nine-year-old daughter alone. Now, he has to take her with him on his nightly journeys, exposing her to his world for the first time.

Getting to know his daughter, Ruzumni remembers the only story he could never tell…his own. Together in the dark alleys of Bnei Brak, they each find their lost childhoods – even if it is for just one moment.

THE DIRECTOR

Yehonatan Indursky was born in 1984 and lives in Jerusalem. As a child he went to the world-renowned Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei-Barak. Later he studied at the Sam Spiegel Film and Television School and was an editor and a columnist of orthodox newspapers. His film COMING UP AND DOWN BEFORE HIM competed at Sderot Film Festival in 2010. His graduation film, also called DRIVER, participated at Jerusalem Film Festival in 2011. His documentary PONEVEZ TIME about the lives of the students at Ponevezh Yeshiva premiered and competed at Haifa IFF 2012. Yehonathan (together with Ori Elon) co-created the highly acclaimed drama series SHTISEL, winning 10 Israeli Television Academy Awards in 2014, including Best Series and Best Script. He won Best Director of a Short Film at the Jerusalem Film Festival 2015 for THE CANTOR AND THE SEA. .

THE HAPPY PRINCE

The Happy Prince is an intimate portrait of the passionate, chaotic and ultimately tragic final chapter in the life of Oscar Wilde. Though much is known of his celebrated literary career and his devastating fall from grace, this film is a compelling exploration of the tumultuous and little known circumstances of his years in exile. It charts his doomed attempts to repair his reputation after release from prison, his failure to reconcile with long-suffering wife Constance, the reprisal of his stormy love affair with Lord Alfred Douglas, aka Bosie, the warmth and devotion of the many friends who try to save him from himself, and the impulsive recklessness that

leads to his heartbreakingly destitute final days. In a story so infused with misfortune, his incomparable wit remains remarkably intact, delivered with the eloquence and irresistible charm that helped to make him so famous in his earlier years. But the film also reveals a darker side to his genius: an arrogance and selfishness that eventually destroys not just his own life but those of the many he loves so dearly. This honest and at times startling profile reveals a new side to a global icon who is so widely revered yet so often misunderstood.

Bernd Trautmann, born in 1923 in Germany, is captured by the British in WWII. During a football match between the prisoners, the goalkeeper is noticed by Jack Friar, manager of an amateur club. Forced upon the team, Trautmann soon surprises on and off the field. Prejudice subsides, friendships start to develop and Trautmann loses his heart not only to football but to his manager’s beautiful daughter Margaret. However, Trautmann could not have foreseen the wave of outrage resulting from his engagement at Man City FC. Thousands take to the streets against the signing of the “Nazi.” Feeling alienated and alone, Trautmann’s and Margaret’s loyalty to each other is being seriously put to the test. But they

receive support from an unexpected direction: Rabbi Alexander Altmann, who fled the Nazis, publishes an open letter against the anti-German slogans. Trautmann’s path to acceptance begins and peaks at the 1956 FA Cup Final when he secures victory for Man City by playing on despite a broken neck. Yet fate twists the knife and Trautmann’s son is killed in a car accident. Heartbroken, Trautmann wants to give up. But a whole nation has learned to accept him, and so he starts to prepare for his comeback. For all those who learned to forgive, for those who had lost someone and most of all for his son, who admired him the most, he must step back onto the pitch.

Rike - mid-30s, a doctor from Europe - embodies a typically Western model of happiness and success. She is educated, confident, determined and committed. We see Rike‘s everyday life, as an overworked emergency doctor, before she sets out on a much-needed holiday on Gibraltar. There she fulfils a long-held dream and sails out to sea alone in her sailing boat. Her goal: Ascension Island in the Atlantic Ocean.

But her dream holiday is quickly broken off on the high seas, when, after a storm, she finds herself near a stricken refugee boat. Unless she intervenes, around a hundred people will drown – their utterly overloaded boat has sprung a leak. Rike follows maritime law and radios for help - legally, she is not obliged to do any more. But when her calls are left unanswered, and then rejected for spurious reasons, she decides to overcome her fear and try to rescue whoever she can.
