1. From the Business Transaction (BT) primary object, for each item of the BT; the Item Type is read.Note: Example of a BT is Disbursement of a Loan.

So, in the example BT above, there is one item and its Item Type is I00A.

2. Next, Derivation of Posting Key Figures from Item Type happens thru a derivation rule. That derivation rule is defined in following IMG path:

As seen in the screenshot above, Item type I00A is configured to Debit Posting key figure _KOSPBT and Credit Posting key figure _KOTGPT

Note:

For the example above, we have a one to one mapping of Item type to Posting Key Figures (Debit and Credit); but we can have more characteristics (and conditions) in the derivation rule; based on business requirement.

3. Next, Derivation of GL Accounts from Posting Key Figures happens thru a derivation rule. That derivation rule is defined in following IMG path:

As seen in the screenshot above, Posting Key Figure _ KOSPBT is mapped to GL Account 9010031 and Posting Key Figure _ KOTGPT is mapped to GL Account 2010231.

Since Item type I00A is configured to Debit Posting key figure _KOSPBT and Credit Posting key figure _KOTGPT; thus GL Posting entry would be Debit GL Account 9010031 and Credit GL Account 2010231.

Note:

For the example above, the derivation rule has one to one mapping of Posting Key Figure to G/L Account; but we can have more characteristics (and conditions) in the derivation rule; based on business requirement.
