    SECTION 2 - OPERATION

    1. INSTALLATION

    1.1 GENERAL

The IFR 4000 is powered by an internalL i th ium Ion bat tery pack. The Test Set issuppl ied wi th an external DC Power Supplythat enables the operator to recharge thebat tery when connected to AC power.

NOTE: The IFR 4000 can operatecont inuously on AC power v ia the DCPower Supply, for servic ing and/orbench tests.

Refer to 1-2-2, F igure 2 for locat ion ofcont ro ls, connectors or indicators.

    1.2 BATTERY OPERATION

The internal bat tery is equipped to power theIFR 4000 for e ight hours of cont inuous use,af ter which t ime, the IFR 4000 bat tery nee dsrecharging. Bat tery Operat ion T ime Remaining( in Hours) is d isplayed on al l screens.

The IFR 4000 contains an automat ic t ime-outto conserve power. I f a key is not pressedwi th in a 5 to 20 minute t ime per iod, the TestSet shuts Of f (only when using bat tery power) .The Power Down Time may be set in the SetupScreen.

    1.3 BATTERY CHARGING

The bat tery charger operates whenever DCpower (11 to 32 Vdc) is appl ied to the Test Setwi th the suppl ied DC Power Supply or asui table DC power source. When charging, thebat tery reaches an 100% charge inapproximately four hours. The internal bat terycharger a l lows the bat tery to charge between a

temperature range of 5 to 40C. TheIFR 4000 can operate, connected to anexternal DC source, outside the bat tery

charging temperature range (5 to 40C).

The bat tery should be charged every threemonths (minimum) or d isconnected for long

term inact ive storage per iods of more thansix months. The Bat tery must be removedwhen condi t ions surrounding the Test Set are

    60C)

    1.4 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

The fo l lowing safety precaut ions must beobserved dur ing insta l lat ion and operat ion.Aerof lex assumes no l iabi l i ty for fa i lure tocomply wi th any safety precaut ion out l ined inth is manual .

    1.4.1 Complying with Instructions

Insta l lat ion/operat ing personnel should notat tempt to insta l l or operate the IFR 4000wi thout reading and complying wi thinst ruct ions contained in th is manual . A l lprocedures contained in th is manual must beperformed in exact sequence and manner

    descr ibed.

    1.4.2 Grounding Power Cord

WARNING: DO NOT USE A THREE-PRONGTO TWO-PRONG ADAPTERPLUG. DOING SO CREATES ASHOCK HAZARD BETWEEN THECHASSIS AND ELECTRICALGROUND.

For AC operat ion, the AC Line Cable, connected to the DC Power Supply, isequipped wi th standard three-prong plug andmust be connected to a proper ly groundedthree-prong receptacle that is easi lyaccessib le. I t is the customer 's responsib i l i tyto :

Have a qual i f ied elect r ic ian checkreceptacle(s) for proper grounding.

Replace any standard two-prongreceptacle(s) wi th proper ly grounded three-prong receptacle(s) .

    1.4.3 Operating Safety

Due to potent ia l for e lect r ical shock wi th in theTest Set , the Case Assembly must be clos edwhen the Test Set is connected to an external

    power source.

    1.5 AC POWER REQUIREMENTS

The DC Power Supply, suppl ied wi th theIFR 4000, operates over a vol tage range of100 to 250 VAC at 47 to 63 Hz.

The bat tery charger operates whenever DC

power (11 to 32 Vdc) is appl ied to the Test Setwi th the suppl ied DC Power Supply or asui table DC power source. When charging, thebat tery reaches an 100% charge inapproximately four hours. The Bat tery

Charging temperature range is 5 to 40C,cont ro l led by an internal bat tery charger.

    1.6 BATTERY RECHARGING

    Refer to 1-2-1, F igure 1.

    STEP PROCEDURE

    1. Connect AC Line Cable to e i ther:

AC PWR Connector on the DC PowerSupply and an appropr iate AC powersource

    Sui table DC power source

    2. Connect the DC Power Supply to the DCPOWER Connector on the IFR 4000.

    3. Ver i fy the CHARGE Indicator i l luminatesyel low.

    4. A l low four hours for bat tery charge orunt i l the CHARGE Indicator i l luminatesgreen.

NOTE: I f the CHARGE Indicator f lashesyel low and/or the bat tery fa i ls toaccept a charge and theIFR 4000 does not operate onbat tery power, the bat tery, serviceable only by a qual i f iedtechnician, requi resreplacement . Refer toBat tery/Vol tage Inst ruct ions.
