BMT Defence Services offer a family of designs for double-hull, twin-skeg Auxiliary Oiler (AO) and Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment
(AOR) vessels. Four representative members of the family are highlighted below; the design of the hull-form is however scalable,
enabling our designers to address custom requirements raised by our clients.

Aegir®
A family of naval task force support ship designs
BMT Defence Services is Europe’s leading independent centre of excellence in naval
design and engineering with 17 years experience in designing and supporting naval
auxiliaries, warships and submarines.

Tighter international maritime regulations are being imposed to reduce the risk of
pollution following a tanker accident or grounding. Though navies are exempt, they
recognise it is in their wider interests to be seen to comply with new and anticipated
environmental regulations.
BMT Defence Services offer navies developing a replenishment capability, or
replacing existing single-hull Auxiliary Oilers (AO), an attractive alternative to
converting commercial double-hull tankers.
The Aegir support ship design offers:
• Low programme, financial and technical risk
• A no-compromise replenishment capability
• IMO regulatory compliance
• High availability and operational flexibility
• Local industrial base involvement
The Aegir twin skeg hull-form is based on a proven commercial design extending
double-hull protection to bunkers as well as cargo tanks and capable of handling
warships’ waste water discharges responsibly.
Aegir’s propulsion configuration facilitates standard naval auxiliary practices for reliable and efficient operation at task force speeds over extended periods, yet is flexible and economic at all other times.
Adopting commercial design rules means local shipyards are able to build
and support Aegir. The baseline design makes allowances for a number of
capability-enhancing options from the outset, making the Aegir approach even
more attractive.

Aegir®
A family of naval task force support ship designs
Aegir offers navies an environmentally responsible, affordable and
low-risk replenishment at sea capability in purpose-designed,
new-build vessels. Aegir is designed to make it possible for a local
shipyard to build a new Aegir auxiliary as cost-effectively as the
alternative of acquiring and converting an existing commercial tanker.
The Aegir design family combines a mature, double-hull, twin-screw
hull-form proven in the commercial market with a general arrangement
designed from the outset for conducting replenishment at sea.
