Grace under pressure Being the hunted is not an easy position to be in. But that’s where Gunnison High School (GHS) senior

Alex Baca found himself last Saturday at the Colorado State Cross Country Championships at the Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs. He entered the season finale ranked No. 1 in Class 3A and the favorite to win the individual title. With a gutsy and perfectly executed race, that’s exactly

what he did — crossing the finish line just seconds ahead of second place finisher Joshua Medina from Alamosa. It marked the first cross country title in school history, and was complemented by an

impressive fifth-place Cowboys team finish. See story and more photos on page B8.

I have been trained and well-practiced in the fol-lowing strategic tactics: human capital

A month before I was sworn into this position on July 14, I had no idea that I would be assuming public offi ce or campaigning for a return on the November ballot. Between learning this job to running a campaign, I’ve had lit-tle time to refl ect on why I felt so strong-ly about doing this work.

I’m grateful this guest commentary off ers the opportunity to explore that and help people understand more about who I am as a person.

Th ank you! Th is is the message that I want voters

in Gunnison County to hear. We have all rallied together to support and pro-tect each other and our economy as we continue to address the challenges we face in response to the COVID-19 pan-demic. It is only by working together that we are able to have the successes, and I could not be more proud to be a part of this community.
